Cat sighting

I was working in the yard of my 3 flat and this friendly lost cat showed up. It is very friendly and followed me around the entire time, going into the building & garage. I gave it some food and water. No collar on it. I don't live at this property, so I couldn't do more than feed and do some postings. I saw it at around 2:30 today and on the 3300 block of W. Pierce Ave. Please PM me if this nice kitty is yours.

  • That's a gorgeous cat. Hope it's got a home and is safe for the coming winter.
Would like to believe a cat that clean and friendly has a home nearby -- but there's no guarantee it wasn't recently abandoned. Hope not though...

  • I live right over there. Next time, please scoop the cat up and bring it to the nearest vet which would be Village West to see if the cat has a microchip. I will try to see if I can go over there and look for this cat and get it scanned for a chip.

    Gentrifiers Prefer Blondes
My neighborhood in West L.A. is like a gated community, but without the gates. Single-family residences only; no apartments allowed. No stores or home-run businesses. The homeowners association enforces its rules and regs with an iron fist. Occupancy limits ensure that a hot mess of "huddled-massers" can't move all 300 members of their immediate family into one house.

PRCC CEO JOSE LOPEZ and HP Aldermen got loans from Chicago Gentrification Bank of Clout

Jose Lopez, anti-gentrification kingpin of Humboldt Park, got $680,000 refi loan on his Thomas St two flat in 2015 from tiny Belmont Bank & Trust. Bank of Clout BB&T is run by Chicago zoning lawyer James Banks and specializes in condo loans. Lopez joined political buddies Aldermen Roberto Maldonado and Joe Moreno in getting loan from bank which specializes in funding condo upzones & gentrification for developers represented by Banks zoning law firm who got Pay to Play up zones for teardowns approved by Aldermen like Maldonado & Moreno.

While backing plans to build condos in their wards, two aldermen representing Logan Square, Humboldt Park, Wicker Park and other booming neighborhoods got loans from a bank headed by the lawyer for the developers, a Chicago Sun-Times investigation has found. Furthermore, a common theme I see with the GOP sex offenders is child molestation. The Republican party feels like Catholic priests. They talk a mean conservative family values game, however in truth, they’re nasty sex offending pedophiles." - the last paragraph of the post

It did seem that way until you read all the way to the end. My response was to BB who is almost always wrong with his posts, "Dems still dont have pedophiles though, so it's ok". All pedophiles on both sides are sick, however in truth, dem nasty sex offending pedophiles are more numerous are get re-elected.

The Unsung Role That Ordinary Citizens Played in the Great Crime Decline
This long-term trend has fundamentally altered city life. It has transformed fear-inducing parks and subways into vibrant public spaces. It has lured wealthier whites back into cities. It has raised the life expectancies of black men.

The biggest & most important change that occurred during this "Great Crime Decline" period was completely overlooked. It was the INTERNET becoming available in every household in every neighborhood, all over the world, during this time.

People living in crime-ridden areas no longer felt isolated nor helpless because INFORMATION was now easily accessible. And KNOWLEDGE is the biggest catalyst for change that there is. All of the programs & organizations mentioned, benefited greatly by becoming part of the "bigger picture" by connecting to many other communities, sharing ideas, feeling empowered & growing as larger, well organized "movements," which grew very quickly.

The INTERNET also changed our surveillance of daily life, with a huge increase in the amount of "reality" that we now were exposed to.
The mobile phone's popularity enabled us now the ability to record life as it was unfolding. These shared videos when put on the internet, expose us all, to all things conceivable, including crime & violence. In a split second, any crime captured on a bystander's mobile phone camera, uploaded onto the "superhighway," could go viral in no time to millions of viewers.
I vigorously applaud the community members, the activists & the dedicated people that are doing such a noble job to bring about great changes by creating a better quality of life for all of us. Thank you!
But the birth of the INTERNET has greatly changed everything... everywhere... and forever.
    Just my opinion.

Orange tabby cat with pink collar and white and grey pendant abandoned.

This yoiubg cat has been wondering around since August. I thought it was owned until recently - I see it running around the alley between Rockwell, Hirsch, Evergreen and WashtanW. I started feeding it and it is super friendly albeit skittish. Does anyone know it’s owner?

  • The cats are owned!! Someone contact me through a neighborhood group. The tags are actually open an animal door when they are close to his home. I am so relieved.

  • Thanks for caring about these cats. It's unfortunate that people are letting their friendly cats outside. I'm not sure if these people are aware, but it is illegal to let your cat roam off your property in Cook County unless it is a feral cat.

He was looking straight at me and jerking off. Appalled, I turned and walked the other way. Two different dudes, two different white cars within less than a block away from each other. I did not have my phone on my so I did not call the police to report either incident and I was too grossed out to go back out the car parked in front of my house to get the plate number. Mute, according to Illinois Statutes and City Ordinance no matter what size of taser it is considered possession of a weapon. But a small pocket size taser or mace would be a misdemeanor. But I don't know any Police Officer that would charge you if you were being attacked and you used it. Mace is sold practically everywhere. You want to get the stream and not the spray. The stream does exactly that. The spray goes all over and could spray an innocent. The stream is like a water hose and goes directly at your target. There is a saying that says it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. The mace sells for about $10 to $15. I don't think you are the kind of person that would be walking down the street and be subject to stop and frisk. It is better to be safe than sorry. If you were my sister I wouldn't hesitate to get her both to protect herself. Stay safe Mute

Alderman Maldonado upzone 1617 N Spaulding: Bloomingdale Trail development aided by $contribution

Alderman Roberto Maldonado took timeout from drinking with FALN terrorist OLR to consider RM4.5 upzone for developer 1617 N Spaulding lot. 6 Unit multistory upzone instead of only 2 units allowed by existing R-3. Maldonado got $500 contribution from developer attorney. At same 9/2017 City Zoning Committee meeting, Ward 1 Alderman Joe Moreno approved up zones for multiple properties within 2 blocks of B Trail allowing multistory projects. Lost Cat

I posted this weekend, but could not upload a photo. This is my cat, Luka, that has been missing since 9/28. He is an indoor cat and escaped like a ninja. He is a Siberian (long hair), cream/tanwhite, weighed about 13 lbs when he got out, is very social, a great jumper, and a ninja at escaping. We miss him dearly.

  • I plan to get a trap. I think Harmony House has one I can rent, but if you have one we can borrow that would also be wonderful! We have put flyers up all over the streets around our house, including on our street. We have not yet put them in mailboxes, but I plan to do that too. DNA info shutting

DNAinfo Chicago is shutting down. I am saddened by the loss of jobs but I am glad. This publication was anti-Puerto Rican and pro-gentrification. The stories of the reporters that have covered Humboldt Park have been completely biased against it’s residents. Bad Karma! This was a good idea gone bad.

It is my most sincere wish that Everyblock is next.

I personally looked forward to DNAinfo's coverage and thought that the journalists were top notch. I did not find them biased in one direction or the other. I am a resident of the near west side for over 35 years. Change is never easy but in some cases it is positive. I do not think that you can tar the journalists who worked for DNAinfo with being biased in favor of gentrification as they often reported about developers seeking to overbuild property and kicking out long term tenants. Jeffrey's comment that "there is a decent chance some entity will pick it up. Or...something will fill the vacuum" gives me hope.

Also my experience with EB is that more than 90% of the contributions are positive. Just the way you would like good neighbors to be. I hope that continues and for all those who post positively, I thank you.

At some point recently it seemed that HP was going through a slow process of being gentrified, but now it seems to have come to a standstill. Great news! Gang violence is down West of the park and it is because good neighbors worked together to take back our streets. United Blocks enjoyed helping West Humboldt Park Neighborhood Watch, 014th District CAPS Officers along with other groups of neighbors to have such great results. Neighbors attended walks against violence and set up tables to show we care and on Halloween, stood in front of their homes to pass out candy and make the streets safe for the children. CAPS Officers held a smoke out and marched on a few of the worst streets chanting (WE WANT PEACE NOW) and (WE SUPPORT OUR POLICE). Neighbors stood on an infamous gang corner and in front of a store where gangs congregate proving we will not tolerate their violent actions. In an area of four blocks, neighbors came together and talked and walked to show gang bangers, we will not tolerate the violence they cause any longer! It was a great turn out and I met many neighbors for the first time and talked to others who I have not seen in years. It was a fantastic evening. There was not a gang banger in sight and NO SHOOTINGS occurred! Everyone talked about strategies to stop the gang violence and make the streets safe for children again. Many said they will be out in front of their homes this Halloween to pass out goodies and watch out for the children who are going Trick-or-Treating again. It is suggested to go on the Next Door blog and enter your address if you are giving out treats so it can be added to a map. This gives the children a list of homes to stop by for treats. This Friday, Oct 27, at 6 P.M. is the CAPS Smoke Out at Spaulding and Beach an infamous gang corner. Please join us and help keep up the momentum in stopping the violence. Hopefully, we can make this Friday another day without gang violence or any shooting because we worked together and made our presence known.

JRL, let them know U believe it's a Timer issue, cause if some-one over rides the Timer, they will go on, also, what can control these lights is a Photo Eye/ Sensor, that's when a sensor no longer senses Day light and the light or lights will turn on, also make sure you're very specific with the location of the lights being out & if you have the time count each & every pole that's out! Sometimes they'll wire a Photo eye-sensor to a number of lights and if that sensor is bad, none of the lights will turn-on or activate! Hope this helps!!! All of those lights up thete are LED, they are fairly new, there's no-way that those fixtures are bad given that they are less then 3 years old!

Local Beekeeper?

Hi,
I'm wondering if there are any local beekeepers in the area? I have a hive that seems to be growing near my front entrance and I'd like to relocate them to a happier home, away from my my door. Really hoping to find a solution whee I will not have to kill them. I know they are greatly needed.
Thanks,
Anna
