Neighbors Work Together To Fight Gang Violence

This store as others in the area are a magnet to gang violence and shootings. Getting no where with the CPD and politicians for decades, neighbors worked together and contacted the press. Check out the video, one of several shootings by this store. Are reports being made? Why has this store not been closed? Is it just politics as usual in Chicago. Are contribution dollars more important than voters lives? Will EBer's remember this when voting next election in February of 2019? I am working hard with my neighbors to fight this wave of violence that has returned to our community in the last three years. Any suggestions of what more we can do? Hopefully, together we can.

The Alderman has the authority to advocate on behalf of his constituents and clean up the issues with this store. And he is not doing so. Not only is he not doing so, he keeps getting this store re-opened because it is his friend and he is getting kickbacks. This is common knowledge. So if a poster here is focusing on Alderman MALdenado, it is well-deserved.

I am not saying that what you suggest can't be done. But you know what? We all work and have daily responsibilities. It's not so easy to take this on! The Alderman should be addressing this. It's his job and he gets paid very well for doing jack S*IT. He is the trash that needs to be taken out and I applaud everyone who calls him out.

Using the LAW is the best venue to get something done. That and regulatory agencies. It is actually pretty easy. It is just rote repetition.

As an institution Chicago puts up many BRICK WALLS that keep problems alive.

Alderman bashing and problem solving are different. And no, I don't know or support the Alderman. We have a very problematic alderman too but with no opposing candidate smart enough to get on the ballot we are stuck.

$20,000 in campaign donations is more important than public safety to Alderman Maldonado.

I guess selling illegal cigarettes and expired food is a very profitable business. Very few small businesses have contributed this much money to a political campaign. That's a lot of road trips to Indiana and a lot of tax dollars that Chicagoans are not getting.

With businesses like this that do nothing to thwart gang activity outside their store and are frequent tax cheats and scofflaws, the only solution is for the neighbors to gang up and shut them down....

Dog running in Humboldt park

A dog running loose in Humboldt Park ran up to my dog and I around 10:20pm. I tried to get a hold of him but couldn’t before he took off sprinting. We ran after him for awhile but ultimately lost him in the dark. It looked like it was a smaller Doberman pincher or something similar looking. It did have a collar on. We saw the dog in the park across from 2835 w division corner and it was running towards the North Ave direction along the inner park street. Hope this is helpful, we will keep an eye out!!

Actually kind of funny. Four words you probably wouldn't associate with a Twitter account run by the Chicago Police. But the 14th District - also known as the Shakespeare District - has developed an undeniable sense of humor. One recent tweet: "We've had numerous calls to our District station to inquire about the whereabouts of the missing "Spring" season here in Chicago.

The torture allegations surrounding disgraced former Chicago police Cmdr. But attorneys for two men suing another allegedly corrupt cop had a startling message Monday: The damage done by former Detective Reynaldo Guevara may be even worse, they alleged.

Illegal activity at the voting location at Plaza Taino 1111 N. Francisco Ave.

When I was voting today they required me to fill out a paper with my name on and fill in what party I was voting for as well as my age. This cannot possibly be legal. What is the correct way to report this and to get correct authority to take instant legal action?

  • Mark Heller Logan Square & Chicago activist

Election Day and also early voting, Chicago Board of Elections REQUIRES all registered voters to fill out "Form 14" with address, signature, DOB. No ID is required except inactive voter or DMV registration requiring ID verification. Signature Match --> you vote. Without this procedure, then everyone would have to show ID, which some consider disfranchisement & onerous burden to poor, homeless, etc

Anybody have the scoop on Toni Berrios whereabouts?

Just wondering if after losing to Guzzardi if she was given a cushy job working with her father in the Assessor's office, along with over a dozen other family members. Anybody know?

I read an interesting political analyst perspective on the Northwest side, including the 26th Ward. It does briefly mention the Aldermanic race that is at the forefront of our minds as election day approaches. Your thoughts?

  • Huge win for Cook County voters, especially those of us on the West Side.

My husband and I want to thank you for participating in the fight against LUCHA and their plan to install cellular antennas on their building. Beyond protecting ourselves from constant exposure to potential health risks, we also preserved our hard-won property values. Cellular antennas are PROVEN to decrease nearby property values.

Even after we contacted T-mobile, NTP Wireless, the Alderman, and LUCHA and asked for a community meeting, the only response we got from LUCHA was their calling our petition "Trump-style" in the media.

LUCHA did not engage with the community. They refused to answer our questions or be accountable to their neighbors.

A community-driven fight against multi-million dollar corporations in an effort to preserve public health & safety and to preserve hard-won property values in a minority neighborhood is not "Trump-style."

Delia Ramirez is running for 4th District IL State House of Representatives is on the board of LUCHA.

How could someone on the Board of LUCHA that called our grassroots neighborhood petition "Trump-style" and refused to meet with the community be an appropriate representative of that same community?

LUCHA stated "with the overwhelming support of our tenants, staff, board of directors and community..." that they would proceed. Obviously hundreds of us who are LUCHA's closest neighbors are the actual community. We don't even understand what LUCHA and Delia Ramirez mean when they are talking about "community." Do they mean people who don't live here? Do they mean LUCHA residents only? Do they mean corporations? What?

Delia Ramirez decided to ignore and disrespect hundreds of homeowners and residents and instead blindly pushed the LUCHA agenda.

Voting for Delia Ramirez is voting AGAINST our community.

Campaign signs are permitted on polling-place properties so long as they are outside the "campaign-free zone."
