Anyone had any interactions with Loyola's police?

I'm a reporter for the Loyola student newspaper investigating transparency problems with Loyola's private police force. If you or anyone you know has had any interactions or issues with campus safety that made you feel uncomfortable or you think could be a problem, please contact me.

  • Ana

Never had a bad experience with them.

  • All I know is i've lived here for 5 years and never once seen anybody working in that Loyola Police office next to the Granville CTA station.

FOIA #18-164:

Sweetened Beverage Tax "total revenue collected to date from the Cook County sweetened beverage tax," February 16, 2018.

Collected: $60,719,954

Shortfall: $12,980,046

Revenue goal: $73.7 million.

Report shows Cook County's revenue flow misses projected mark
Although the pop tax was only in effect for a little over three months, revenue still fell $27 million short of the Cook County's $73.7 million goal, data shows. The internal report obtained by the Sun-Times also reveals that the contentious, penny-an-ounce sweetened beverage levy wasn't the only one that didn't meet its target - four other taxes lowered Cook County's expected revenue stream, dropping it by $5.4 million.

The screening will take place this Thursday, March 1st, 7:00 p.m., at the New 400 Theaters, 6746 N. Sheridan. Following the screening, director Kyle Henry, screenwriter Carlos Trevino and lead actress Sara Sevigny, all Rogers Park residents, will discuss the film and take your questions.

Tickets are $8.50 a piece ($7.50 for students and $6.00 for senior citizens). I recommend you reserve your tickets now, as the show likely will sell out. To purchase tickets, click here:

I first viewed this movie last October at the Chicago International Film Festival and was blown away at how well it captured the beauty and feel of our neighborhood.

The film is not about the Rogers Park community per se–instead, it focuses on two middle-aged couples facing personal crises, as long-simmering resentments rise to the surface–but our neighborhood provides an ever-present backdrop throughout all four seasons of the year. The film portrays perfectly the milieu and spirit of our community in a way that only Rogers Park residents can fully understand and appreciate. Kudos to the director, the writer and the actors.

You’ll see a lot of familiar scenes in the movie. My personal favorite portrays one of the characters, an assistant to the local alderman, encouraging people to vote in the participatory budgeting election :-).

The film is getting great reviews, currently 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. To find out what the critics are saying and learn more about the movie, visit:

Owners Antoinio and Maribel Diaz will welcome you with warm Latin hospitality. They have more than 10 years of restaurant and bar experience and are very excited to achieve their lifelong dream of owning and operating their own restaurant.

South of the Border is also known for its chicken jibarito sandwich, which comes with a side of fries, and the picadillo Cubano, which can best be described as a plate of Cuban comfort food. Cap off your dinner with a bunuelos, a generous plate of fried doughnut fritters lightly sprinkled with sugar and accompanied with a cup of raspberry sauce.

South of the Border is definitely a place you want to be this Friday night!

I have an ancient car which needed work 3 or 4 times in the last 14 months, and each time I was completely satisfied with the service I received. The owner is not only polite and well-spoken, but will answer your questions and doesn't treat women like ditzes. He's a nice man who seems ethical and inspires confidence. Hourly rates are a bit lower than another popular shop in the neighborfhood, which is a plus.

This seems like quite a bit to shoehorn into a little lot; the fronts of the townhomes would only be a few feet from the lot line! The building appears oddly proportioned when compared to the two proud structures on either side, which is made more apparent in the version 1 with the metal finishes, Overall it seems that when something is torn down we would hope the replacement will better than what has been lost. This seems to be missing the mark a bit.

Venting

Speaking of parking issues in Rogers Park... an old gentleman across the street on North Shore has a designated handicap spot. When he returns from wherever, he parks in his spot. Then, as soon as an adjacent spot opens up he removes his placard from the window and moves his car there, taking up an extra space.

I fume every time I see this. What’s his deal? Does he just like an unobstructed view of the street? And, (yes, I know you can’t always tell), he doesn’t seem to have a disability.

It just apppears selfish and un-neighborly.

In summation, problems normal people don't live with.

You can't JUST figure it out long term and just numbers don't work.
How about the uncalculatable; owner/neighbors and neighbor/neighbors?
If they don't take care of the place, this piece of pie in the sky is spoiled faster then those roaches can get to it.
It's apparent the majority of owners in this building want to maximize their return on rents or not pay appropriate assessments if residing so they keep assessments low IN PLACE of making repairs and extermination.
A simple 30 year calculation would show none of this.

Chicago Waldorf Moving to Andersonville

This is a bittersweet post as our kids attend CWS and we really like the Rogers Park neighborhood. However, the chance to own instead of rent, plus the fact that the Trumbull site gives the teachers and students nearly twice the square footage is a huge plus. Here's hoping that another school takes over the old Loyola buildings. It's good to have activity in this area.

Join us TONIGHT (Monday, February 19th), 7:00 p.m. at the Loyola Park Fieldhouse, 1230 W. Greenleaf (2nd floor).

With everything going on in Washington, there is no shortage of topics to cover. Jan plans to talk about the devastating Republican budget and her alternative Budget for All plan, the so-called "tax reform" plan recently passed by the Republican Congress, which Jan labels a "tax scam," and, of course, immigration reform and protection of the "Dreamers," whose cause Jan has championed for years.

Jan will also respond to questions from those assembled, so please feel free to bring your questions on topics of concern to you.

You will also find out at the meeting how you can help ensure that the Democratic Party nominates progressive Democrats who can effectively take on Bruce Rauner and the Republicans in this fall's election.

Confirmed, mine trippled since 95.
Unsustainable.

  • Phill Rogers Park is not 100% liberal, deal with it

Chicago is structured like that, Democratic politicians love heavy taxation for home owners (The socialist concept has always been to tax the successful) then use that money to support people that always vote for the Democratic party. If they need more money, then they take it from drivers when they go to work, using money making machines like speed cameras.

I disagree with Bruce in one thing, though, Do not mute Michael Archangel. His comments are very entertaining and they will bring a smile to your face and make you have a happy day filled with happy feelings.

That won’t make a difference Rob, because as soon as Trump & North Korea nuke the world no one will get sunlight... but we’ll have stlll have the practice facility:)

  • This monstrous athletic practice tower will destroy the historical character of the traditional neighborhood, will attract and kill migrating birds with its lights, will cause flooding and prevent rainfall from recharging the natural aquifer, will add to noise pollution and must be forced to sign a community agreement to hire only local union employees and promise a low carbon footprint and prove that it will support the local small business climate.

Fireworks at Leone Park Beach Again.

At about 4 am there was a series if fireworks at Leone Park Beach. Thankfully it was one round instead of several hours worth. These were fireworks, not gun shots. Carol
