City Council Votes Tomorrow on Police Academy

Tomorrow, Emanuel will be asking the City Council to approve spending $95 million for a new Police Academy that will include a new shooting range and a pool. Emanuel claims this facility is called for by the DOJ investigation of the CPD. Not true. The report calls for training to "ensure consistency with CPD policy and current law, particularly with respect to the use of force..." This could be accomplished in any of the many public school buildings that Emanuel has closed, and certainly does not require any new facility - let alone, one that will cost $95 million +.

Thoughts?

Mayor Rahm Emanuel played hardball Wednesday after two aldermen used a parliamentary maneuver to delay consideration of a fund transfer needed to bankroll a $95 million police and fire training academy in West Garfield Park.

Moving to the neighborhood -- Community Groups?

Hi there,

Moving to Rogers Park next month from downtown. Do any specific community action groups come to mind, that a newcomer should join to start becoming involved?

No particular cause/topic in mind right now--just looking to become a contributing member of the community.

Thanks!!

The participatory budgeting process going on now may be a way to get involved as well as a way to learn what issues the community is interested in.
