Who's afraid of bankruptcy for Chicago?

Some of us Chicagoans are resigned to the inevitability of bankruptcy of Chicago. This study by a non-partisan fiscal research group gives courage to face the future.

Did city government bankruptcy hurt Detroit's economy?
The chart below shows total employment from 2005 to 2017 in the Detroit-Dearborn-Warren metropolitan statistical area, compared to employment in the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro area. The chart indexes employment in both areas to July 2013 = 1.0, which gets both areas (one larger than the other) in the same neck of the woods in the chart and also allows you to compare the Chicago and Detroit metro areas since the latter declared bankruptcy.

Chicago's fiscal condition is not sustainable with current tax receipts: the compound growth of pensions alone will inevitably soak up available revenue. Raising and inaugurating new fees and fines are insufficient to meet the need, and lenders eventually will refuse to extend credit. The property tax or a city income tax are the only viable alternatives, and either one or both will send the majority of residents into poverty or drive taxpayers out of Chicago and Illinois. We residents left behind will demand relief from the burden of financing city government; teachers and public-safety workers will continue to refuse real reform. Bankruptcy will enable the city to renegotiate terms of its pensions and debt.

@Dan Miller - Given past rulings by the Illinois courts relative to contractual obligation of the city to those pensions, I am afraid that the only legal option is bankruptcy protection. Although, that reality will be very cold comfort to those union members whose leadership negotiated those contracts with city leadership.

Is there a memo somewhere on the Verizon wireless construction impact?

Is there a memo somewhere on the Verizon wireless construction impact? This is happening throughout the city but started in Rogers park as a bit over two months ago.... Heavy machinery going up and down the street all day have not heard from the alderman's office other than my own inquiry... Is there something I've missed that the alderman's office out out? Looking forward to the walls not rattling from equipment outside...

Taking our budget back...one sign at a time

Our fellow everyblock Rogers park neighbors have pointed out the the pavement markings and signage indicating end of block no parking are unnecessary. People should just know it's illegal and we can save the money by not maintaining these indicators. Join us in helping remove these from the neighborhood as they are wasting unnecessary moneys that could fund things like basketball hoops for the kids.
please help identify unnecessary signs around rogers park and post them so we can create a list.

d3, up above, you even directed a comment to Joe, although there is no Joe on this thread. It's been obvious for some time that you think that Live is the alderman, which I find rather hilarious but it just shows your mentality. And is it any of your business what time I'm on EveryBlock? I won't deny that I generally support the alderman, but I don't work for or take orders from him.

What's irrational is the sign west of the driveway, which btw mentions nothing of the corner.

Who can maintain Touhy Park in Rogers Park?

It seems the Chicago park district doesn't use their own park... During the winter they do not maintain the sidewalks by removing the snow between the playground and field house sidewalk. Now about two weeks ago the dumpsters we're relocated and obstrict the path of the walkway.

It's easier to walk through the grass after these changes but now of course the grass needs replaced and they just did that before last summer.

Has park management changed?

A Red hat club lady probably slid into the dumpster on the ice sidewalk and moved it herself

I usually use voodoo..but posting on EB seems easier..way to go d3..
