Its a family of 4 with 4 cars. The truck is only used to save parking for 3 spots right in front of their apartment building. He uses the truck and another car to save a spot for the third and keep alternating through out the week. Every morning is the same routine. One of the 3rd car pulls out and the truck is moved forward with another car moved backward saving a spot in the middle. Leaving the 4th car to be used throughout the day. What to do? its driving me crazy!

He finally moved outta state where he had the room for all his junk and no longer needs city property to store it. I have a couple ex boyfriends parents do the same thing. Aquire multiple vehicles junk up their garages think they own the spot in front of their house cuz they pay taxes. Annoying.

School Project: Logan Square gentrification

Hello, I'm working on a high school project about affordable housing and gentrification in the Logan Square neighborhood.
If you're a renter/home owner or a member of an organization that is concerned about this issue, would you please answer a few questions?(Please identify which when responding)

Would please define gentrification briefly in your own words?
What kind of inequity is in play with regard to this issue (racial/economic/other)?
Are the existing conditions sustainable?
What would be a solution and how would success be measured?

  • Joe

The word gentrification was invented in the 60's by a person that lived in a Kingdom. It is an observation of human behavior coined in a place that does not recognize Individual rights and property rights as one in the same. Humans fought massive wars throughout history over this principle. Lands with castles see property as title and power that should be controlled and doled out by those in power.

Do a project on personal liberty and how the right to own property or not erodes liberty. Does allowing a 3rd party to control an individual or an individuals property lead to corruption and looting? If government used it's power to protect each individual equally vs if a government used it's power to take from one individual and give to another.

The inequity at play is the loss of an individuals freedom. An individual is the smallest minority.

granting gov power over the individual will be used negatively and unfairly to benefit only those in power. Even if the benefit is to earn votes and get media coverage so they can win a seat in Congress, leaving the voters they duped behind with nothing but pandering to cling to. There is no definition of success in the context of using gov against an individual, not to protect but to take from.

  • will h, could you please post a link to a survey or Google form, so responses are more private?

  • Achilles Flaneur ear witness

    Hi Will,

I suggest reaching out to Sharon Hoyer at the Dill Pickle and Mark Fishman at Fishman Properties. Also Gina at Bird's Nest Salon, and Rick at Logan Square Automotive. The perspective of people who both own/run businesses and live in the neighborhood would be interesting to hear.

Best of luck with your project!

Key Found Hoyne/Dickens

I happened upon a lost key by the first tree north of Dickens, west of Hoyne. I left it visible on the tree root. It had ice on it so it was probably dropped awhile ago, maybe last night. It was difficult to see making it easy to miss if someone backtracked for it. Hopefully whoever lost this didn't get locked out in the cold.

How the 20% Pass-Through Income Deduction may Affect You

The new tax bill has many trying to understand how the 20% deduction applies to pass-through income and whether it affects them. Before making any changes to become a sole proprietor, understand the deduction and speak to a tax professional to determine if it can be beneficial to you.

https://illinoisestateplanning.blogspot.com/2017/12/the-new-20-deduction-on-pass-through.html

The New 20% Deduction on Pass-Through income, What is It? And does it affect you?
There are many intricacies of the new Tax Act that will be discussed and analyzed over the coming weeks and months. While some of the changes will allow for a tax reduction for "pass-through" entities, the complexities of the tax bill should be discussed with your tax advisor to make sure you understand how it affects you before you make any significant financial or employment changes.
    http://illinoisestateplanning.blogspot.com
  • Is the 20% credit on pass throughs a permanent deduction or does it expire at some point?

  • It is currently set to expire with the individual tax rates after 2025. Although the entire tax bill can be changed with the passage of any new laws.

  • Thanks Bryan! It was also helpfull to know that it is a "below the line" after AGI deduction... I assume a new line on page 2. I looked everywhere for that info and it was/is hard to come by. I even tried reading the bill, but it was like trying to read mandarin, or maybe klingon!

Anyone else hear gunfire near Chicago and Richmond at about 3:40am on Sunday?

It sounded like 5 or 6 shots. Called 911 and did see a patrol vehicle, but the police must not have seen anything unusual.

Prepay your Property Taxes for 2017 Tax Deduction

You may want to pay the 1st installment of your property tax bill before the end of the year for a deduction on your 2017 federal taxes as you may not be able to utilize the deduction in 2018.

https://illinoisestateplanning.blogspot.com/2017/12/prepay-your-property-taxes-for-2017-tax.html

Prepay your Property Taxes for 2017 Tax Deduction
With the likely passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, it is estimated that the majority of taxpayers who currently itemize their deductions will take the standard deduction for the tax year 2018. The reason for this change will be capping of State and Local Tax and Property tax deductions at $10,000.

Thanks much for sharing. Interesting to see how quickly this organization is acting on the news.

As a current renter & someone considering buying a home in the next 3-6 months, I'm wondering if it makes sense to rent another year & see if home prices fall over the next 1-2 years, specifically in the Chicagoland area.

  • Bansia,

Glad this is information was helpful. As for the question on renting vs buying, that will be a big question going forward. Without the tax advantages of home ownership, you may see a decrease in home values in the coming years.
