concern about safety

There is an urgent need for adequate lighting on the North side of the 606 at Bloomingdale and Western. The pavement is very uneven and dangerous to pedestrians. Also any traffic coming from the East trying to merge onto Western cannot see what's coming from northbound traffic on Western. There should be a way for cars to see what's coming on Western, in order to merge without blocking the crosswalk or entering Western since that's very dangerous to the moving cars on Western as well.

Protect Rental Property Assets with an LLC
Real Estate has always been considered a safe investment since the supply is finite and the demand grows with the population. Even though we have seen some swings in the real estate market over the past decade, the theory still is held true by many.

Share Christmas/ Sponsoring a child or family

Hello!

Does anyone know of any good local organizations that have a share Christmas program; meaning any program where you are able to donate gifts, and/or sponsor a family/child for Christmas?

Thanks!

  • Try Whole Foods. They have a giving tree and you register to receive a family or person in need through local charities and programs.

  • Hello we are a family of four in need of help for the holidays this year. I have two children and my grandma with me. Its been a rough end of the year for us we are struggling with food and clothing. Please I would really appreciate any info. Thank you.

Trap Door's Occidental Express: An Expressionistic Riff on War, Borders, Homeland, Identity
Trap Door Theatre is staging an expressionistic, phantasmagorical tale of eastern European drama. Their new production, Occidental Express, by Romanian-born playwright Matei Visniec, is a sometimes wacky, often chilling, always poetic meditation on war, borders, homeland and identity. The play was translated by Nick Awde and adapted and directed by Istvan Szabó K, also Romanian-born....

He was looking straight at me and jerking off. Appalled, I turned and walked the other way. Then I get to my house not even a block away and another different man in a white Nissan sedan is doing the same thing in his car in front of my house not even 5 minutes later. Two different dudes, two different white cars within less than a block away from each other. I did not have my phone on my so I did not call the police to report either incident and I was too grossed out to go back out the car parked in front of my house to get the plate number. If you are in this zone of 60622, perhaps keep an eye out and be safe.

Mute, according to Illinois Statutes and City Ordinance no matter what size of taser it is considered possession of a weapon. But a small pocket size taser or mace would be a misdemeanor. But I don't know any Police Officer that would charge you if you were being attacked and you used it. Mace is sold practically everywhere. You want to get the stream and not the spray. The stream does exactly that. The spray goes all over and could spray an innocent. The stream is like a water hose and goes directly at your target. There is a saying that says it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. The mace sells for about $10 to $15. I don't think you are the kind of person that would be walking down the street and be subject to stop and frisk. It is better to be safe than sorry. If you were my sister I wouldn't hesitate to get her both to protect herself. Stay safe Mute

Do Not Block Sidewalk

1807 N. Paulina,
Please do not block the public sidewalk. Today a client had to drag her son's wheelchair back towards Northshore Pediatric Therapy to cross to the other side of the street because your car was blocking the sidewalk. And you have giant rocks around the parkspace so she couldn't even "off road" it. If your car is too big to fit into your garage then your car is just plain too big.
Please remember that many Chicagoans are not able bodied and cannot squeeze around your vehicle to use the public sidewalks. We did not phone the police today, but will do so in the future.

  • That isn't too far from Tasty Treats World Headquarters. The house next door has the same problem. What kind of architect does that? To save the cost of a beam? Keep calling it in. If he keeps this up the cop who gets the call may remember and escalate or make it a point to drive down your block and ticket this guy when on patrol. As someone who once had to attend a wheelchair bound person something like this would mean war.

    Thank you neighbors. Good advice.

It's time to get over Jane and give Mable a shot. Mable's Table (1655 W. A gray cat with a little white at the throat and light gray green eyes. S/he's been hanging around my property for about two weeks. Looks healthy and not starving. She's afraid of me but I just put food down for her and she approached and ate as soon as I walked away. Don't know if s/he's feral, abandoned or lost but want to do something. If you've lost a gray cat please reply. I have a photo but won't post right now

  • Burr Elementary School reviewed by a parent

My oldest has been attending Burr since pre-school and is now in 2nd grade. Every year, the teachers have been caring, compassionate and attentive. I've seen my child grow leaps and bounds. They also offer many programs after school through JCC as well as many teacher and parent run groups such as sports, girl scouts, cub scouts, you name it. The parent involvement is amazing!

Flasher (and worse) on North Avenue between Hoyne and Leavitt

Tonight at about 10pm while walking on the southside of North Ave just west of Hoyne, a man in a black Acura sedan stopped in an alley as he approached North avenue. As I walked in front of his car, I noticed that he had exposed himself (and was engaged in an activity I can't say here). I continued walking down North. 20 feet or so later, he pulls up next to me on North, before speeding away. Gross.

Missing Feline Family Member!

Our skittish senior Ragdoll, Gambit, has been missing since 10/21/2017. He is an indoor only pet, and we have no idea how he escaped. He has blue eyes, a milk mustache, and white paws. He doesn't have a collar, and was last seen at our apartment, near Western/Fullerton in Bucktown/Logan Square. Please email tecranston@gmail.com with any sightings. Thanks for your help, neighbors!

I live in the area so I will keep my fingers crossed and my eyes open for you. Sorry he is missing I have 2 indoor cats and I would be beside myself if mine were missing. Hang in there sweetie and hope you find him.

Also, post signs with pictures in a six block radius around your house. Put some of her litter and old clothes that smell like you around the door to your house or apartment. Make sure all the shelters know she is missing, too. GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Also you might want to set a trap outside. Put some food like can tuna and sardines with a blanket over the trap. The smell might bring her around. Someone suggested this to me when my inside cat got out. It worked. Good luck. I was crazy when my cat got out. Please keep us posted.

Dear Joggers

When running up from behind a person with dogs or around blind corners please slow down and make sure a dog walker is aware of your presence so they can secure their dogs. Or even better, simply divert to the street. If you want to pretend you're Usain Bolt find a track or join Midtown Athletic Club. The sidewalk is not a running track.

  • @John C. says "Joggers are looking straight ahead."

That's called tunnel vision or can't see the forest through the trees, a form of ignorance that not only afflicts joggers, but drivers, politicians, and society in general. Parents are very diligent teaching their children about cars careening out of alleys. They usually don't teach them to look around corners when crossing a sidewalk, probably because sidewalks are supposed to be areas safe from being run over.

  • Oddly, the one thing my super nervous dog isn’t scared by is joggers approaching from behind. A garbage truck 2 blocks over, freak out. Some guy zooming up and past us, whatever.

You can usually hear joggers coming anyway. Most wear running shoes that sound alike.
