Street Lights Out in South Shore

Has anyone else been experiencing burned out street lights in their area. 68th Street between Merrill and Paxton has been out for more than two nights this week. With no grocery store, overcrowded buses, etc., I'm beginning to believe that this area is being ignored by the city of Chicago (don't know why?) And then maybe we all know why (dark people lol).

  • Have you contacted 311, alderman or streets/sans?
Marcello Siggers (ward superintendent) 312-744/4961 is good to know!!

  • L Yadda

Yes, you have to call and report it continuously, call 311 and go online and report it also. Report it every day and tell your neighbors to do it too! It's a darn shame we have to take the extra steps, but you have too! If it was the Gold Coats, one call and it's fixed. P____s me off!!

  • kennethscruggs Ken @ South Shore

Thanks everyone - I've contacted the city, and did the on-line portal. I haven't tried the Ward Superintendent which I'll do today. Thanks again.

  • Sorry to be so pessimistic but I expected that just like I expect no decent grocery store.

  • Yes I knew it wouldn't last up there on 71st.i been saying all alone. What a bad idea it was. For the million time we need a decent Food store in place of the old Dominick's up there. I just don't know why the people in charge of this decision....

I just don't know why the people in charge of this decision. Just don't get it. And have not done anything. To help the community of south shore. By bringing another store to our area. I don't like going all over town in other areas I don't live in just to food shop. Make no sense at all. And I am glad that dum gym closed down. Should never have been there in first place. 😕👎

City Plans to Expand TOD Ordinance to Include High-Frequency Bus Corridors

...possible strategies to encourage TOD along busy bus routes, focusing at first on Western, Ashland, Chicago Avenue and 79th Street. These four routes experience ridership that meets or exceeds areas of the Blue, Orange, Green...

City Plans to Expand TOD Ordinance to Include High-Frequency Bus Corridors
In 2013 City Council passed Chicago's first transit-oriented development ordinance, which halved the number of required on-site parking spots at new developments near transit stations - previously a 1:1 ration was mandated. In 2015 the Council beefed up the ordinance by essentially eliminating parking requirements near 'L' and metra stations, and doubled the size of the TOD zones.

I would love to help search for the family by looking through all the lost reports for Lost Dogs Illinois but more of a description would help, any chance this pup is chihuahua? Here is the link to Lost Dogs Illinois facebook page. Thanks so much for keeping this pup safe and trying to find true family. They should be able to provide photos of them with the pup, along with vet records. You might also want to take to a vet to be scanned for a microchip, any vet with a universal scanner, they don't charge to do this.https://www.facebook.com/LostDogsIllinois/

  • Ev

Wow, in starting to check Lost Dogs Illinois lost reports there are lots of small black & white pups missing in Chicago. If you can let me know if male or female that will narrow it down, and if you want email me a photo at E.Sus@comcast.net that would really help. Thanks again.

  • Can you post a picture please.

Some good alley finds!!

There are some really nice pieces of furniture in the alley between Yates and Oglesby mid 7700 block; dressers with the drawers, a wardrobe, a china cabinet with glass in place and wired for lighting.
They all look like quality older pieces, wood drawers and backs, no MDF. Finishes are rough but this is a good find for a handy person to fix up, use or sell!
Garbage day is tomorrow so move fast!!

  • Mickie53 Be kind, and be generous with your kindness.

Your concerns are probably well founded. While I certainly would never advise anyone to take anything with upholstery or padding, hardwood furniture can be dismantled to clean so I think it’s safe.
As an ER nurse I’ve seen many a bug brought in on patients and we don’t throw out our equipment like gurneys and beds after they are used! Lol! We’d go broke!

  • Shepisces Caring Resident

Lol! I shuddered at "seeing many a bug ON patients!". Nurses desrve so much more recognition! Thank you for all you do. But yes, I can imagine the daily cleaning and sanitizing that takes place. I've gotten an item or two from Craigslist. One being a GORGEOUS white chair with beautiful embroidery fabric. I was able to clean it well, no bugs thank goodness, and its now a staple peice in the living room.
