Coming back to "Sweet Home Chicago!"

Hello everyone! I'm in the process of returning to Chicago after being away for 25 years (16 years in Brooklyn, NY). I'm looking for property, preferably in Woodlawn (Kenwood, Bronzeville and Hyde Park are in the running). Though I visit Chicago twice a year and still read the local papers online, my senses are a bit dull and I'm asking for suggestions where to begin my search. I'm looking at something close to The University of Chicago (I'm coming back for PhD studies). I've missed Chicago and look to remain permanently.

  • That's nice good luck with everything. Pick Hyde Park area it may be the best choice for u. It's a little more expensive in that area but it is more convenient and closer too university. Much more diverse and safer. Also close to transportation shopping businesses and down town. The...

That's nice good luck with everything. Pick Hyde Park area it may be the best choice for u. It's a little more expensive in that area but it is more convenient and closer too university. Much more diverse and safer. Also close to transportation shopping businesses and down town. The other communities u named are alright and some have been very renovated but still very high crime level. I live in south shore it beautiful area but really has changed over the years. Very high crime rate unfortunately on the whole south side period but some neighbors are a little better then others u just have to really do your homework and check them out before moving. Cause main thing u want be at peace comfortable and safe where you live. Welcome back to Chicago and good luck. 😀

I’m currently in the process of renovating a 3 unit building in Woodlawn. U of C has done a tremendous amount of rehabbing in the area! Comps are rising daily, new businesses are coming in, and the property is still fairly priced. A contractor told me once he finished a building for his client he has 100k of equity!! They have a program called Renew Woodlawn that has been working in the area to stabilize and revitalize the area. And there is a lot more in the plans, such as Obama’s library, and Tiger Woods golf course. Crime is everywhere now. I currently live in Hyde Park, and someone tried to stick me up! Good luck with your search!!

A puparent herself and a regular at the dog park she truly understands JBark's value to pup, puparent and the community at-large. Please return the favor by giving her your support in the coming primaries and beyond.
