According to Garcia-Abner, the artwork of the students will be installed as a colorful outdoor gallery in front of the hotel site, which is located at 1411 E. 53rd St. The mural will serve as a fixed exhibition wall that will remain on view throughout the construction phase process of the hotel.

Hi Neighbors. You may have received a political hit-piece mailer targeting candidate Adrienne Irmer by claiming to tell "THE TRUTH." Whenever I get these really nasty mailers--the ones that make brash charges of impropriety against a candidate but offer very thin support--I find-out who is funding the piece. This hit-piece is especially weird because it offers a phony sounding "disclaimer" that looks like it's trying to also muddy-up the reputation of candidate Curtis Tarver. Both Tarver and Irmer are part of a crowded field seeking to fill the IL 25th Assembly District seat being vacated by Barbara Flynn Currie. So who is throwing the mud? By law, such mailers must name the funding source and it is the "INCS Action Independent Committee," a name clearly designed to cover-up the source and ideology of the funding. The group appears to be a rightward leaning group with ties to charter schools, right-wing middle eastern politics, and various big business money sources. The two largest donors are Jim S. Frank ($1,015,500.00) and Alice L. Walton ($700,000.00). Yes, that's "Walton" of America's richest family, the Walton Family, heirs to the Waltons retail fortune. Frank got wealthy as a car dealer, and has an interesting political donation record, seeming to sprinkle money on both Democrats and Republicans-- an influence buyer? You can dig into this yourself. The Illinois Sunshine website is easy to use: http://www.illinoissunshine.org/
My bottom line on the 25th District race is that there are a number of good candidates, and a lot of solid information available about all of them. The group that funded this hit-piece has some kind of hidden agenda, but it's clear they are a small clique of wealthy people trying to get their way by shouting out thinly supported and scandalous charges, while hiding their own identities and interests behind a benign sounding PAC name. I would completely ignore anything they say.

Chicago voters, please vote Toni Preckwinkle for Cook County Board President. Vote for Bob Fioretti only if you oppose reform in the Chicago Police department. I will be voting for incumbent Toni Preckwinkle, who isn't getting the endorsement of the Chicago chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police because she has very actively supported policies that punish reckless, racist, and criminal activity by the police. She is not getting the endorsement because she believes that it's not OK for the police to shoot at suspects that do not pose a threat. She is not getting the endorsement because she supported a State's Attorney who is willing to charge police officers with criminal conduct when they engage in criminal conduct. And make no mistake, the criminal conduct being discussed is not marginal cases, but gross overstepping of the boundaries of lawful behavior by sworn officers that results in citizens being murdered and lives being grossly damaged. Bob Fioretti is a weasel for even taking this endorsement, because he knows full well that Preckwinkle's push for reform was just and right. But he realizes that in order to have any chance of winning, he must consolidated a large portion of the white vote, and in order to do that, he is willing to embrace an organization and a particular leadership (the current FOP President ran on a platform that accused the previous leadership--which looked ultra-reactionary until they were challenged by more vulgar reactionaries--of being too liberal!). If you believe in police reform on Chicago, vote Toni Preckwinkle for Cook County Board President.
