Possible revenue stream for Chicago?

At 5:30 a.m. cars on Lake Shore Drive travel at an average of about 65 MPH, and some are going 80 MPH. I believe the speed limit is 40 MPH to protect the roads, so why not install speed cameras to enforce the limit? Or if the high rate of speed isn’t bad for the roads, raise the speed limit so it isn’t so much of a joke.

  • Why? It may increase for a bit but once the tickets start flowing, you'll have people switch to the side streets and create more traffic. LSD is not a highway but more of a road and it's in city limits hence the speed limit. Kennedy Expressway is 45 mph limited as well yet people go anywhere from 60-80mph there.

"once the tickets start flowing, you'll have people switch to the side streets"

I dont see an increase in traffic on side streets where all the other speed cameras have gone up. I see people slowing down for the stretch until cameras are out of sight and still see people speeding through.

Lucky Plush's Rooming House ventures from Greek myth to Clue
The world is littered with adaptations of the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice, but the Greek myth is just a seed for the creator-directors of Rooming House, Julia Rhoads of Lucky Plush Productions and Leslie Buxbaum Danzig, a cofounder of 500 Clown.

In Wonder, a deformed child isn't the only flawed character
August Pullman, the ten-year-old boy at the center of Stephen Chbosky's Wonder, is severely deformed: the bridge of his nose reaches to his forehead in a straight line, the corners of his eyes are pulled down in a perpetual sob, his cheeks are traced by scars, and withered ears peek out from under his long hair.

Robert Charlesworth has an ambitious goal and a year from this Veterans Day to achieve it. He needs an artist or two who can work with steel and glass; a prominent, expansive public lawn on which to plant poppies that the artists fabricate; the generosity of Pittsburgh corporations to provide materials; and donors to help him raise $1 million for veterans' charities by the Nov.

Lead levels in the water in Lincoln Park

Hello, my husband saw a City of Chicago employee on Bissell Street today. The City of Chicago employee said he was testing the water for lead because it had shown high levels. Is this common knowledge in Lincoln Park? Should we not be drinking the water?

Oddly, the city was doing some work on Fullerton (near Racine) over the summer and shortly after that work, my water pressure fluctuated greatly and my water turned a brownish color. I contacted the city and my alderman's office several times but was never able to get a straightforward answer. The water eventually turned back to a normal color, but again no answers. I did have my water tested by the city. They confirmed there was no bacteria, but never got back to me regarding the metal test. I've attempted to contact them several times. Needless to say, this hasn't left me confident.

Steppenwolf's 'The Minutes' is a play of its time
Making something funny is way harder than making something important, says Steppenwolf Theatre artistic director Anna D. Shapiro. She should know. The Tony Award-winning director has helmed both comedies and dramas, including Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning "August: Osage County," which premiered at Steppenwolf 10 years ago.

In a year of sorry national spectacles, none seems more bitter or pointless than the feud that broke out last month between the Trump administration and the family of Sergeant La David Johnson, one of four U.S. soldiers killed in Niger during an ambush by Islamist militants.
