We deserve more from Commissioner Bridget Gainer

https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/4-cook-county-board-members-missed-25-or-more-meetings-in-past-5-years-survey/ + she's been SILENT on Joe Berrios and on advocating for property tax equity -- all while dreaming of higher office.

4 Cook County Board members missed 25% or more meetings in past 5 years: survey
Cook County Board members have missed hundreds of meetings in the past five years, an investigation by the Chicago Sun-Times and ABC7 Chicago's I-Team has found - with four county commissioners absent at least a quarter of the time. Commissioner Bridget Gainer had the worst attendance record, records show.

La Colombe Coffee Breaks No-Internet Policy, Starts Offering Customers WiFi

At the Wicker Park La Colombe and Lincoln Park’s La Colombe, 858 W. Armitage Avenue, patrons can use WiFi by either entering their email address or logging in through Facebook.

“I got asked 15 to 20 times a shift if there is WiFi,” said Alice Howe said, a barista at the Wicker Park La Colombe, 1552 N. Damen Avenue.

DeVries said that the La Colombe at 955 W. Randolph Street in the West Loop will remain no WiFi, as will a forthcoming Gold Coast outpost at 4 E. Elm Street that aims to open in February.

The chain’s largest Chicago neighborhood location at 5158 N. Clark Street in Andersonville began offering weekday-only WiFi almost two years ago, after initially opening in 2014 with no Internet.

La Colombe Coffee Breaks No-Internet Policy, Starts Offering Customers WiFi
It's a New Year and it looks like the La Colombe chain of coffee shops is changing over a new leaf. After years of proudly not offering Chicago customers WiFi - hoping to stimulate conversations between patrons rather than having them locked into their devices - they're reversing course at two locations.

Cops: Man Stole Central A/C Units From Lincoln Park Homes
Ronald Howard had an idea last week. So far, it has not panned out as he apparently hoped. Howard is accused of stealing two central air conditioners from Lincoln Park condominiums and then trying to sell the units at a nearby construction site.

Calling on Chicago to provide 2200K PC AMBER LED Streetlight Test Block

Chicago is in the process, like many cities around the world, of replacing our streetlights with blue-rich white LED's (BRWL's). At 3000K these lights are at the absolute highest end of what the AMA has deemed safe. Blue spectrum light at night (270,000 streetlights in Chicago) will affect the health and circadian rhythms of people, plants and animals by creating 24 hours of daylight. IMHO, these lights are not only unsafe they are ugly and painful to look at, just like the new LED headlights...too bright and too glaring. They will make our city look like the frozen food aisle at Aldi, or at best, a Night Game. Chicago owes it to its tax payers, who will shell out $700 per light, to at least set up one test street with 2200K PC Amber LED's. If you would like to see such a test street, please let your Aldermen know. This is a four year roll out and changes can be made before it’s too late. If you would like to view or join our FB Group, please feel welcome. Thank you.

Starting to be heard?? This is hardly a new issue.
The one point that public policy analysts agree upon is that there is far too little research on the issue in order to make an informed scientific based policy. I realize that not everyone understands how scholarship works but established science is not a function of a few dozen studies that include numerous qualifiers and limitations.
Let’s invest in the best research that money can buy. Large scale studies which address ALL of the implications of this issue are a must.
This thread has included claims that can’t possibly be addressed by simply changing the kind of lighting we are going to be using in Chicago.
The focus of good policy needs to be narrow otherwise you are begging someone to ask you to produce the evidence for any other claims you are making. Ignoring the rules that govern public policy is not going to make them go away. It’s only going to make your agenda harder to realize.

Vicki, does there happen to be a website as well? I'm not a FBer. Thanks and happy holidays!
PS: I'm visiting out of town for the holidays and this same issue and ire over the nasty bright blue lights came up (completely unsolicited by me). People far and wide dislike these things for aesthetic reasons, if nothing else!
