Dorothy Brown is Chicago's first black, female mayoral candidate

Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County Dorothy Brown official announced her candidacy for mayor during a Sunday press conference at the Chicago Hilton Towers.

And joining Brown at the podium was Jackie Jackson, wife the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who said, "I am on board for Dorothy Brown."

Brown said after being elected to her fifth term as county clerk in 2016, she is confident she can win. She ran previously for mayor in 2007.

I will work towards a Chicago where every Chicagoan has hope, and because of that hope, we’re not known around the world for crime and police brutality,” Brown told supporters. “But rather, we’re known around the world as a respected city and as a world-class city where all of our citizens come first.”

The Chicago Fund for Safe and Peaceful Communities has awarded AWOFINC a 2018 grant, one of 132 rapid-response grants to support activities that promote safe and peaceful conditions in 19 prioritized Chicago communities. AWOFINC's Parent Information & Resources, Violence Prevention Consortium and Youth Leadership & Development initiatives seek to identify and establish Community-Based Participatory Partnerships with groups and organizations. The consortium will be actively engaging multiple communities. Find out how you can participate in Leadership Training, Community Engagement, Violence Prevention initiatives as well as youth programs by contacting our office or send a message to any of our cooperating initiatives Facebook pages.  This spring summer and fall the Violence Prevention Consortium Safe Spaces Initiative will be working with local organizations and churches in Auburn Gresham, Englewood, Gage Park and Back of the Yards helping those organizations plan and execute activities and initiatives. Four shot, one fatally, outside Englewood party: 'The ones who got hit got hit'

An unidentified man was killed and three people injured in the drive-by shooting about 2:25 a.m. in the 1200 block of West 73rd Place, police said.
