Dorothy Brown is Chicago's first black, female mayoral candidate

Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County Dorothy Brown official announced her candidacy for mayor during a Sunday press conference at the Chicago Hilton Towers.

And joining Brown at the podium was Jackie Jackson, wife the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who said, "I am on board for Dorothy Brown."

Brown said after being elected to her fifth term as county clerk in 2016, she is confident she can win. She ran previously for mayor in 2007.

I will work towards a Chicago where every Chicagoan has hope, and because of that hope, we’re not known around the world for crime and police brutality,” Brown told supporters. “But rather, we’re known around the world as a respected city and as a world-class city where all of our citizens come first.”

The Chicago Fund for Safe and Peaceful Communities has awarded AWOFINC a 2018 grant, one of 132 rapid-response grants to support activities that promote safe and peaceful conditions in 19 prioritized Chicago communities. AWOFINC's Parent Information & Resources, Violence Prevention Consortium and Youth Leadership & Development initiatives seek to identify and establish Community-Based Participatory Partnerships with groups and organizations. The consortium will be actively engaging multiple communities. Find out how you can participate in Leadership Training, Community Engagement, Violence Prevention initiatives as well as youth programs by contacting our office or send a message to any of our cooperating initiatives Facebook pages.  This spring summer and fall the Violence Prevention Consortium Safe Spaces Initiative will be working with local organizations and churches in Auburn Gresham, Englewood, Gage Park and Back of the Yards helping those organizations plan and execute activities and initiatives. Wear Orange and Join RAGE for the Kick Off of So Fresh Saturdays at Sherwood Park - June 2nd!

The season for “So Fresh Saturdays” is here and R.A.G.E. is excited to announce that our 2018 summer park tour will launch on Saturday, June 2nd at Sherwood Park located 5701 S. Shields from 2pm-6pm.  For six years, R.A.G.E. has hosted “So Fresh Saturdays” as part of  Chicago’s larger Nights Out in the Parks effort. Each year R.A.G.E. reclaims local parks in Greater Englewood in the name of peace to offer residents a free, family-oriented, “edutainment” festival where they can enjoy games, performances by local artists, food, raffles, and relevant resources throughout the summer. This past summer, So Fresh Saturday expanding to include seven parks serving more than 7,000 individuals.

It is with great pride that we provide this free event to residents who are often overwhelmed with negative ideas of what it means to be an inner-city resident of Chicago. The kick-off event for So Fresh Saturdays on June 2nd will include positive entertainment from over 10 local musicians and artists plus offer a community resource fair that brings together nearly 20 organizations and schools that have programming and opportunities for resident. Children of all ages can take part in a variety of games, arts and crafts, as well as a bounce house. And in solidarity with the Moms Demand Action and Everytown Survivor Network, we will also wear the color orange to honor all victims of gun violence and survivor families in our city, state and nation.
So Fresh Saturdays is true demonstration of our community coming together peacefully to celebrate with entertainment, education, activities, and food. Although we are in Englewood, So Fresh Saturdays is open to all Chicagoans who want peace in our city.

Info Session for Fresh, Healthy Food Access Grant – May 31st

Whole Cities Foundation and the Resident Association of Greater Englewood (R.A.G.E.) have partnered for a third year to increase healthy food access.

Nonprofit organizations serving the Greater Englewood neighborhood can now apply for a $2,000-$8,000 grant for projects that grow the local food system!
