The Comedy Clubhouse's "Wishin Control" is a Critic's Pick.

The Comedy Clubhouse, that purple building on Ashland just south of North Ave, just opened with their Main Stage Theatrical, Wishin Control. It was reviewed this past weekend and got the critic's pick:

Review: WISHIN' CONTROL at The Comedy Clubhouse | PerformInk
By Jonald Jude Reyes When problems grow weary on a person's mind, sometimes the last string of hope is to just wish. "I wish I would win the lotto," or "I wish the right person would come along," or "I wish Kevin James would make another Mall Cop!"

Hello, I was just on of the people robbed by armed men the other evening (near Pulaski park) and I wanted to share with you a message I sent to Alderman Hopkins. I hope that others too will reach out to city officials. These crimes that are happening day and night here need to be stopped. The criminals have zero fear raiding our neighborhoods and terrorizing residents and I hope that we can change that, NOW!

"Hello, I was held up by gunmen the other evening returning from work in front of my building just upon exiting the car. I filed a police report and learned from the police and others that mine was not the only incident that night. It seems in a span of a couple of hours these men targeted several people. The incident was terrifying and it was also brought to my attention that the police do not have the forces they need on the street overnight to do their jobs. Also, I also learned recently that they are often told not to chase to apprehend criminals. What are they to do? If the police have their hands tied these criminals know that they can terrorize the unarmed public and do basically whatever they want! It's awful! Also, I had noticed for some time that my street and general area here is quite dark at night. Are there any plans for added lighting or perhaps type of lighting for this area? Thank you very much. I am grateful that I only had to give up some of my belongings to spare my life but I am not the only one who works the second or third shift in this city and not every crime ends without violence. Please help to make the neighborhood safer, day AND night. Not everyone can stay barricaded inside overnight as residents have suggested I do, nor should we have to accept and tolerate that criminals have free reign of the streets just because the sun goes down. Thank you very much for your time. Please advise me if I can be of any assistance in this."

He was looking straight at me and jerking off. Appalled, I turned and walked the other way. Then I get to my house not even a block away and another different man in a white Nissan sedan is doing the same thing in his car in front of my house not even 5 minutes later. Two different dudes, two different white cars within less than a block away from each other. I did not have my phone on my so I did not call the police to report either incident and I was too grossed out to go back out the car parked in front of my house to get the plate number. If you are in this zone of 60622, perhaps keep an eye out and be safe.

Mute, according to Illinois Statutes and City Ordinance no matter what size of taser it is considered possession of a weapon. But a small pocket size taser or mace would be a misdemeanor. But I don't know any Police Officer that would charge you if you were being attacked and you used it. Mace is sold practically everywhere. You want to get the stream and not the spray. The stream does exactly that. The spray goes all over and could spray an innocent. The stream is like a water hose and goes directly at your target. There is a saying that says it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. The mace sells for about $10 to $15. I don't think you are the kind of person that would be walking down the street and be subject to stop and frisk. It is better to be safe than sorry. If you were my sister I wouldn't hesitate to get her both to protect herself. Stay safe Mute

My neighbor was robbed by 3 males approximately 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning as she got out of her car street parked right in front of our building. I will relay the info as best i can. She exited the car, was approached by 1 male, shortish (5 feet?) Who was wearing a Halloween mask, the other 2 pulled up in a car. She was told he had a gun, i think she saw it too, then told not to yell or scream. She set her bag on the ground, the male frisked her pockets, took her things & jumped in the car & left. They took her work bag, some cash, id & credit cards. She was not hurt- just shocked & scared. They threw her keys on the ground & didn't take her car. She didn't get a good look/description of the males or car. It happened very quick. She filed a police report. This happened 1253 n cleaver, at Potomac & cleaver. Maybe a neighbor has cameras that caught something? Just be aware, keep your heads up neighbors, take care!

The Rickets Family Shuts Down DNA Info to Bust Union

The writers and workers at DNA Info have been trying to unionize for some time and voted to proceed with unionizing. Immediately after the vote, the ultra wealthy, multi billionaire Rickets family shut down DNA Info to bust the union and punish their employees. I will never go to Wrigley or watch a Cubs game again until the Rickets sell. (I'm a lifelong Chicagoan and Cubs fan and even go to the spring training games... but never again under Rickets ownership).

If you believe in workers rights then boycott the Rickets and all the business of their famiy...

DNAinfo and Gothamist Are Shutting Down
For DNAinfo and Gothamist, the staff's vote to join the Writers Guild of America East was just part of the decision to close the company. A spokesperson for DNAinfo said in a statement, "The decision by the editorial team to unionize is simply another competitive obstacle making it harder for the business to be financially successful."

Who's Alice Childress? We should all know
Raise your hand if you're familiar with the work of Alice Childress. I thought not. Me neither. Sure, it's easy enough to ID her as one of a constellation of black playwrights who flourished in New York during the civil rights era.

Artistic Home's Powerful Wedding Band Portrays a Biracial Couple in 1918 South Carolina
Wedding Band: A Love/Hate Story in Black and White is a powerful drama of black-white relations in 1918 South Carolina, soulfully directed by Cecile Keenan at the Artistic Home. The 1966 play, written by Alice Childress, a prolific if little-known African-American playwright, has passion and relevance for a modern audience.

Flasher (and worse) on North Avenue between Hoyne and Leavitt

Tonight at about 10pm while walking on the southside of North Ave just west of Hoyne, a man in a black Acura sedan stopped in an alley as he approached North avenue. As I walked in front of his car, I noticed that he had exposed himself (and was engaged in an activity I can't say here). I continued walking down North. 20 feet or so later, he pulls up next to me on North, before speeding away. Gross.
