New dog walker safety signs - Thanks

I was surprised & pleased that the two signs dealt with the continuing problem of
owners not keeping their dogs leashed while using the park.

Early in Oct., our dog & I were attacked by an unleashed dog in the park.we raised
Our concens with the park district, the alderman, & the police. Last week we attended
a police CAPS meeting that had the issue on the agenda.

Hopefully, the appearance of the new signs, is the result of the issue being taken seriously. Thanks to those responsible !! I hope our neighbours & fellow dog owners
Will do the same.

  • I hope this addresses the problem for you.

I also hope that you and your dog are now OK.

Sadly, too many people don't understand the concept of personal responsibility. You know the type...they feel the rules are for everyone else and whatever happens, it's not their fault.

I see this at the DMV all the time. It's my fault you received three speeding ticket convictions in one year. It's my fault you did not pay the fines or appear at your hearings. And now it's my fault that your driving privileges are suspended.

    My bad!!!

Electrician's Advice

Like many neighbors we have an old bungalow. We had a contractor (who will not be returning to our home) who cut the electric in the ceiling feed as short as humanly possible. I am attempting to tie the electric back in for some of the runs but I'm running in to a snag, The old wiring has some cloth and I cannot get it to budge. I've traced and toned out the wires and I know where they terminate and there is slack but I just can't get it to move and I'm worried that if I pull too hard I could end up breaking the wires within the conduit.

I am hoping to not have to completely re-wire the house at this time and suggestions.

Thank you!

Mr Bushman and whomever is:" in the manor " are absolutely right with terrorizing foresight.
Cover it or remove it : COLD. Bring in a larger than you need and the next owner will need. Branch from it with care leaving more than sufficient extra wire for inspection or connections for your planned project then add 30 to 50%!
You can, almost, always go larger, stronger and better coated, bigger boxes and more of them to stay clear of bad locations or other lines which may be conductive: but NEVER the opposite.

My experience? I opened an old natural gas iron pipe that WAS regular used to run electrical wiring to update gas lighting, back then.
But in 1972 it was : STILL LIVE WITH GAS WIRING THE PIPE WITH TWO LIVE CIRCUITS! I can see and smell them to this day.

After that, I would never consider a less than over kill job with options. Never cut any corners or in doubt: go with more safety & capacity, never less!

Electrical repair & upgrading WILL be very expensive.
Much less than death, especially lingering death by fire. Bad wiring starts with gassing off, which hopefully will render you unconscious before your body will be incinerate, but the children next door may not get out while fully conscious full of adrenaline and feel their skin melt! The first responders will put their lives in your hands today, to get you out and save the children tomorrowbut: but you'll be dust: or who doesn't know ( like I didn't know) what you did before they moved in.

    Just think about it?
Then pray for every minute from this point on that you knew what was in there!

  • If you have enough wire tape it to the blade of a reciprocating saw and run the saw at slow speed to jerk on the wire with the short strokes from the saw. Option 2: If in a ceiling box: connect another wire to the wire you want to pull out then tie that wire to 15/20 pound weight and let it hang there, it will slowly peel the fabric coating from the pipes rusty grip.
I've been successful with both options.

Get some muriatic acid and either scrub it on with a large scrub brush and rinse thoroughly with your hose, rent a large power washer and upstream the muriatic into the washer, then rinse completely. Be aware if you do this yourself, don't get any muriatic in your eyes or on your skin, and don't blow off your mortar by turning the pressure up too much! Or you can just get a few estimates from a tuckpointing contractor, chose your poison. If you do it yourself, thoroughly saturate all vegetation before and after cleaning.

Coyote!

My Dog Alerted me to look towards Chase and Oketo last night while we were taking a walk last night. I expected to see a skunk or opossum But it was a coyote! Beware of letting your dogs out alone at night. Coyotes could be very bold. ☺

It was about 9:30pm. When I warned some people sitting in their yard at Oketo and Jarvis they said a relative who lives one block over had 2 coyotes in his yard last week. Last night I went in the yard with my Jack Russell terrier around 2am and an opossum sat on top of my neighbors fence and stared at me for at least 15 minutes. My boy Wiggy was running around looking for the critter he smelled, but he never looked up. 😁 I guess Mr Possum figured it was better to play possum and stay still.
