Have you switched from Comcast to RCN?

I am thinking of switching from Comcast to RCN in order to save money. Has anyone switched from one company to the other? Have you seen good savings over comparable packages? I went to RCN's website like I was going to purchase new service and put everything in my cart. I tried to make it really close to what I have now as far as Premier Digital, Phone, Internet, Tivo, extra digital box, router, modem, unpublished number, etc. Have I been paying too much this long? The monthly estimated bill (which includes estimated fees and taxes) was 30% lower than Comcast!! Trying to decide if it would really be worth it. Thanks for the feedback!!!

  • I had RCN for years and I recently switched when our internet only bill went up to $90 a month. In combination with a few reactivation fees of $40 the bill was up $130 a month. It was too much. We are taking our chances with a slower speed with Comcast. $24.99 a month.

  • d3 NoHo

Full irony of bringing up such an old post....i too lowered my bill about a year and a half ago by switching from rcn to Comcast. Rcn refused to match any of the promos they were mailing me or Comcast promos. They would only lower my bill by reducing services....

Full irony of bringing up such an old post....i too lowered my bill about a year and a half ago by switching from rcn to Comcast. Rcn refused to match any of the promos they were mailing me or Comcast promos. They would only lower my bill by reducing services. I told them I was cancelling on x date. Called multiple times. Canceled on x date, after Comcast was activated. They didn't even try to stop me from cancelling that day. Then they call and email me begging to come back. Sorry rcn I have a three year contract with Comcast and couldn't be happier at the moment...

  • What good police work! Vicious criminal at work in Rogers Park and alert Shakespeare Police Officers recognize and arrest him in Logan Square!

  • Sounds like the victim will lose an eye due to the savagery of the attack.

So sad and senseless. If only our justice system would stop blindly fast-tracking catch & release, minimizing sentencing or offering early parole.

I think we need to start looking for politicians with an Incarceration Mandate.

DO THE CRIME, DO THE TIME.

    OMG, I can't believe it...a 67 YO woman.

what I would give to be alone in a locked room with that savage.

Energy Scam Folks Making Their Rounds

I just had a man knock HARD on my front window while ringing the doorbell, and THEN jiggling the door handle excessively hard. Told him "no thank you, I'm not interested", and closed the door. He then went huffing across my lawn hollering about how black men in Chicago don't get any respect...
So, that was pleasant.
He was wearing a blue polo, tan pants, lanyard around his neck and had dreads.

Just an FYI to the people in the Pratt/Wayne area.

Is RogersEdge a real place?

The President of the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce has decided it would be a good idea to proclaim that "Rogers Edge [sic] was a bad marketing idea, and is not a real location in the City of Chicago!"

That seems to have sparked a debate on a lesser known Rogers Park facebook page about the matter. It's quite a good one.

So what say you Everyblock, Is RogersEdge a real location or not?

Couple of guys, up to no good

Just saw a pair of guys try to get into my building. Within a block of the Morse red line stop. They were probably looking for packages, but none were around.

One was a white guy, maybe 5'10" with braids, the other a black guy, maybe 5'8". Be on the lookout!

Looking for a good electrician and a carpenter. Thank yo

I and a few friends are in need of good tradesmen. People who back up their work and don't compromise safety. Thank you.

  • I’ve been having great luck with T&D Electrical, who rewired my whole second floor and will be doing my first floor next. They are all about following code and explaining why doing things a certain way is safe or not safe. They always ask before they cut into a wall, even if you give them the go ahead to do whatever. And they clean up like whoa at the end of the day. http://tdelectrical.net/

A 44-year-old woman is charged with setting last week’s fire at an apartment building on Touhy, just east of Clark, that caused the death of another woman when she jumped from the top floor of the building.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office charged Margaret Reed, a Lincoln Square resident, with two counts of murder and a count of aggravated arson–all felonies. She is being held without bail.

Reed is believed to be the person who set the fire last Tuesday morning behind 1745 W. Touhy. Surveillance cameras recorded Reed at the site of the fire shortly before it started, leading detectives to interview her.

In the meantime, the victims of the fire need your help. The fire displaced 34 people, including nine children. Many were left literally with only the clothes on their backs.

My office, working with Northside Community Resources, created a donation page through which Rogers Park neighbors can provide financial support to the victims. The money raised will be used to provide the families with help on a security deposit and first month’s rent, plus clothing and basic household items.
