School Project: Logan Square gentrification

Hello, I'm working on a high school project about affordable housing and gentrification in the Logan Square neighborhood.
If you're a renter/home owner or a member of an organization that is concerned about this issue, would you please answer a few questions?(Please identify which when responding)

Would please define gentrification briefly in your own words?
What kind of inequity is in play with regard to this issue (racial/economic/other)?
Are the existing conditions sustainable?
What would be a solution and how would success be measured?

The word gentrification was invented in the 60's by a person that lived in a Kingdom. It is an observation of human behavior coined in a place that does not recognize Individual rights and property rights as one in the same. Humans fought massive wars throughout history over this principle. Lands with castles see property as title and power that should be controlled and doled out by those in power.

Do a project on personal liberty and how the right to own property or not erodes liberty. Does allowing a 3rd party to control an individual or an individuals property lead to corruption and looting? If government used it's power to protect each individual equally vs if a government used it's power to take from one individual and give to another.

The inequity at play is the loss of an individuals freedom. An individual is the smallest minority.

granting gov power over the individual will be used negatively and unfairly to benefit only those in power. Even if the benefit is to earn votes and get media coverage so they can win a seat in Congress, leaving the voters they duped behind with nothing but pandering to cling to. There is no definition of success in the context of using gov against an individual, not to protect but to take from.

  • will h, could you please post a link to a survey or Google form, so responses are more private?

    Hi Will,

I suggest reaching out to Sharon Hoyer at the Dill Pickle and Mark Fishman at Fishman Properties. Also Gina at Bird's Nest Salon, and Rick at Logan Square Automotive. The perspective of people who both own/run businesses and live in the neighborhood would be interesting to hear.

Best of luck with your project!

Key Found Hoyne/Dickens

I happened upon a lost key by the first tree north of Dickens, west of Hoyne. I left it visible on the tree root. It had ice on it so it was probably dropped awhile ago, maybe last night. It was difficult to see making it easy to miss if someone backtracked for it. Hopefully whoever lost this didn't get locked out in the cold.
