@inactive user No not 100 aliases on every block. Just the one shown here since joining. I also don't make any unconstructive comments. Just maintaining anonymity as majority of people do on the group for all of the same reasons people have posted here. Just trying to keep the group for all of positive things it offers. If it doesn't work, so be it. I'm open to all helpful suggestions. Someone offered the possibility of the Reddit Group. I also checked that out. Lets see what we can do to maintain this group for all of the good things it's offered to help one another. People in our area 60630, 60631, 60634, 60641, 60656 can join the group with their actual Face Book page or anonymously, whatever they feel comfortable with. People who are abusive will be removed just like on this group. I really hope we can keep this going somehow.

Fischman Public House

Anyone go to Fischman Public House at 4058 N. Milwaukee in Portage Park yet? I remember going to the original Fischman's Bar quite a bit when it was near Hoyne Bank before the bar closed a while back. Gus was the owner then, and I hear his Public House is a smash hit!

The food is impressive too! Gus and crew provide a slightly upscale take on bar plates. Plenty of vegetarian options too! But the star of the show are the cheese curds. Out of this world.
What I like about it besides the beer and food is that they are family-friendly.
I see a lot of families eating there.
I loved the old Fischman bar but the new place is even better.

  • Jen Baron JBaron

Not sure if they were held up actually, but I was there Friday and they had two doors in the back boarded up. I asked and they said they had been broken into/robbed. The rest of the store looked fine, just the two doors had been smashed in.

  • I believe there was a burglary while they were closed.

Hello

These property lines drive a Chicago homeowner crazy. I told my neighbor I will be doing some tuckpointing work on the west side of my property (on their yard side) later this summer. My chimney protrudes out approx 4 inches on that side which also coincides with MY property line. My neighbor then goes ahead and plants veggie plants directly against my building with chicken wire fencing obstructing where tuckpointing is needed. The Alderman has indicated that I would need to get a R/E attorney and apply for a temporary easement order with the CofC to gain access. How ridiculous is this. All because of some plants on MY property line.
Anyone have any suggestions, please give me a holler. Thanks in advance!

  • You should have a survey along with your property papers. That survey will give dimensions from your house to your property line.I would guess that the narrow strip of land next to your house where they planted is actually your property. I does not matter where the fence is .
A contractor will probably erect a scaffold to do the work. That can be done in such a way as to not disturb the plantings. Protection can be do so as to protect the plants from dust and debris.

Yes, they are on my property. I have a plat survey and it indicates that my property line is 11 5/8 inches out from the building. I'll use this if needed in the event the neighbor tries to justify his plants being placed there.

The building tuckpointing is needed at the bottom sections of the building, thus, the plants are obstructing the part that needs access on the lower part. I think there may be room if the contractor decides to pull the plants back with a strap of some kind to shift them forward away from the building without damaging them. This all depends on how cooperative the neighbor is. I have found they say one thing, then do something different. We shall see. Thanks for your comment!

Why she’s that far down my sidewalk who knows?! It it’s bothering me. We’re not friends especially because her son is a felon and has been seen in my backyard. Hence my security cameras. Do I have the legal right to tell her to stay out of my gangway? Is there a city ordinance that states my sidewalk gangway is private property and she’s can’t trespass?

We’re going to put up a fence that runs the length of the gangway soon anyway. Some extra space for the dogs to run and extra security for our property.

If anyone can provide a link that explains my property rights that would be great. Thanks.

Seeking Gay Friends in Jefferson Park and Portage Park!

Hello, Everyone!

I am a single GWM who moved to Jeff Park from Bucktown a few years back and am having a tough time finding any gay identity here. There must be gay men in Jeff and Portage Park tired of the craziness of the Boystown scene and desire true friendships here on the Northwest Side!

My friendship base kinda wained over the years and would love to establish something healthy and enduring. I'm 50, sincere, discrete, professionally employed and have a really warped, fun sense of humor.

So, let's get together and share great conversation, food and friendship! Life is too short not to!

Prohibition does not prevent people from pursuing the thrills and vices they wish to pursue. It only makes the pursuit thereof more dangerous and harmful to the users and those around them.

The only solution I can see for this problem is to bring it out into the open. Have the Aldermen, city, fire and police organize community supervised fireworks shows. Get it out of the back alleys, where debris showers on the yard and clogs the drains and lands in gutters full of dry tinder. Bring neighbors together to talk to one another, socialize, and use and enjoy fireworks as safely as we can. Teach safety and responsibility. Set up in the park, on the baseball field, and bring along a dumpster and have a cookout on the 5th with rakes, bags and trash pickers to clean up.

That way most of the activity can be contained and moderated, and the calls to 911 can better address those that still insist on polluting, disturbing the police, and creating hazards in our alleys.

  • Some people just cannot resist the thrill of setting off forbidden fireworks. It's like a little kid thing. If it becomes legal and controlled it may just lose its charm. However, the danger, the noise and the pollution will remain.

Puppy guidance sought

I will be getting an 8 week old Goldendoodle soon. It has been 40 years since I have had a dog. Living alone, I am assuming I need to crate train from the beginning. Having said that, what are thoughts about the pup climbing on furniture and sleeping in my bed?

I know I am going to need help on the training end. What are your experiences with obedience training classes and/ or hiring a trainer to come to the house. And, how about selecting a vet?

Puppies do not have eight hour bladders. You need to get up during the night to successfully housebreak them. The crate is to contain them at night, during the day when they cannot be supervised, it is their safe space. You don't want them to view a crate as a bathroom and bedroom. They should view the crate as their den and safe space. Dogs don't use their den as a bathroom. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/dogs/tips/crate_training.html

    https://www.labradortraininghq.com/labrador-training/what-size-dog-crate-and-which-type/

If you have a yard this will make housebreaking much easier. It is much easier to get up during the night and take a dog out in the yard than it is to actually go for a walk.

The amount of exercise a dog requires varies by dog and breed. Each dog is an individual, so some may need more others require less. If you have a higher energy breed making sure they get enough exercise is key to avoiding behavior problems.

You will also want to puppy proof your yard and house.

Reasonable rates and nice work. They've been busy doing kitchen/bath renos for over 15 years by word-of-mouth & add-on work alone (both worked at Century Tile & Carpet yrs ago). They're local to Portage Pk/Jeff Pk and are usually booked out a few weeks.

In case you haven't had the work done before, tile cutting is messy work that's done outside; you'll need a viable spot for that. Also, if you're keeping your current bathroom flooring, lay a fitted piece of low, tight-looped pile foam-backed carpet to protect your flooring -- it's cheap insurance that pays off.

Tuckpointing..

Anyone know a good tuckpointing company?

  • robin in WRP I support a 28th Amendment 4Free & Fair Elections!

We just finished a project with Pyramid. The price was amazing. The work Richard did was also amazing. The work done by one of his helpers was awful, and looks worse because the work Richard did is absolutely beautiful. He redid some of it, but not all.

  • I have heard many good things about the work Pyramid does.

City Water Lot @Sunnyside + Lamon: Workers going down the alley the wrong way daily

The headline about sums it up. I've contacted the Alderman's office several times, over the past 3 months, lodged complaints with 311, with no real results. Anyone else have this issue with city workers not respecting the neighborhood they work in? I happened to be walking down the alley today and made them back up and go out on Lamon. One guy got really mad and tried inching his car up on me. His description: middle aged WHITE MALE.

  • paul in jefferson jefferson park resident

If signs posted they can be a one way

  • B Johnson... I tried not to comment but I couldn’t help myself.. your response to Minnie van Driver: the guy being white-so he ‘should’ have more sense... really?!

High-end senior living with array of amenities planned for Six Corners, with rents starting at $4,400 a month - Nadig Newspapers - Northwest Side Local Newspapers
by BRIAN NADIG Reaction to a proposed 10-story senior housing and retail complex at 4747 W. Irving Park Road was mixed at a June 21 community meeting hosted by Alderman John Arena (45th). About 225 people attend the meeting, which was held at the Filament Theater, 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Arena might not allow buyouts in the ward, but he does allow segregation by letting the builder build the affordable units off site, most likely in Jefferson Park. Arena, the true NIMBY in all of this.

  • We are dealing with assistive living right now and the price is actually cheap. Obviously most people can’t afford that type of money so with our experience our family member bought a long term insurance which will cover the entire cost.
