Photo adds to controversy surrounding Alderman Arena's use of police lot near Wrigley - Nadig Newspapers - Northwest Side Local Newspapers
by BRIAN NADIG and KEVIN GROSS and A Facebook photograph shows that Alderman John Arena (45th) attended a May 11 Cubs game with other elected officials, contradicting his statement to reporters that he parked at the 19th (Town Hall) Police District Station near Wrigley Field so that his 75-year-old mother would not have to walk too far.

What do you expect? He is a POLITICIAN!! That's what they do best!! Create smoke screens so no one ever really knows what underlying cause is behind any statements made, of course until a video or picture tells a 1000 words. Perhaps she was using the restroom at the time the photo was taken?? You never know do you! I am sure anyone in that position can come up with a 1000 more explanations, right?? I'm just sayin...

  • Weebis Politically Incorrect Thought Criminal

Whenever arena's lips are flapping, lies are being uttered.

Even if I didn't know who that was in the photograph, the d-bag vibe is strong with him.

Bucky, arena posted said photo on his FB. No shame in his corrupt game.

Mixed-income housing developer for 5150 Northwest Hwy reviews options after state denies tax credits

by BRIAN NADIG The fate of a controversial mixed-income housing proposal in Jefferson Park remains uncertain after the Illinois Housing Development Authority last week did not approve low-income housing tax credits for the proposal. "We are still reviewing our options at this point," said project developer Joshua Wilmoth of Full Circle Communities.

Amid Affordable Housing Dispute, Conservatives Seek a Home in Chicago - ProPublica
When news broke last week that a proposed affordable housing development on Chicago's Northwest Side had likely been put on hold, Ammie Kessem, a Republican candidate for state representative, vowed on Facebook that it wasn't the end of the story. Democrats, Kessem wrote, would pay for pushing the plan - including 45th Ward Ald.

Arena and six other aldermen recently signed the pledge as part of an effort that they say will help end segregation on the North and Northwest Side.

LaBagh Woods offers great recreational, aesthetic and ecological value to the people of Chicago, and serves as a habitat for migratory birds and diverse wildlife. The privately owned, wooded property at 4357 W Bryn Mawr is a seamless addition to the forest preserve and contributes to the quality of life and property values that the families of Sauganash and neighboring communities enjoy.

We were dismayed to learn that in spite of strong community opposition, the City Council voted to rezone this land from POS-1 (Regional or Community Park) to RS-1. This will allow developers to strip this land of its trees and wildlife in order to construct single family homes.

We believe that to divest the people of Chicago of even a single parcel of forested land should be as unthinkable as privatizing a stretch of the lakefront. The parcel in question, though privately owned, provides great value to the community and the region as undeveloped open space. We therefore ask that you sign this petition to express your concern and opposition to development at this location. We further ask that you reach out to your elected City and County officials to voice your opposition to the development, and urge them to work with the community and the owner of the parcel to reach an equitable compromise.

Note that a lot of the good rolls are towards the bottom, so if you dig a little, you'll get to most of the good rolls. I am just trying to get rid of it without having to bag it for the garbage people, so feel free to come by and take it. I plan to put a sign up tonight, but as described above, if you drive west on Montrose, turn right on Narragansett, turn right on Sunnyside, then turn immediately right into the alley and drive down a bit, you will see the sod stacked up on the right right inside my fence. Take as much as you want, all of it if you can.

297 Apartments Near O'Hare Approved Over Alderman's Objection

Amid Affordable Housing Dispute, Conservatives Seek a Home in Chicago

Groups tied to Illinois Policy Institute and talk show host Dan Proft back GOP candidates on city’s Northwest Side.(Excerpts):"Starting with the 2012 elections, some institute leaders began funding campaigns after a series of transactions involving other organizations and political action committees they formed, records show."

"The Illinois Opportunity Project, in turn, poured more than $1.7 million into political campaigns and committees across the state, according to election board records. "..."Some of the money from the Illinois Opportunity Project went to a pair of Northwest Side candidates for the Chicago City Council in 2015. John Garrido, a Chicago police officer running for alderman of the city’s 45th Ward, received $2,000, while Anthony Napolitano, a former police officer and firefighter vying to be 41st Ward alderman, got $3,000."..."In 2016, the Illinois Opportunity Project also loaned $325,000 to Liberty Principles, a political action committee founded and run by Proft. Liberty Principles spent more than $10.5 million in races across the state in 2015 and 2016, including about $118,000 backing Garrido. Proft didn’t respond to a request for comment. The 2015 results were mixed. In the 41st Ward, Napolitano upset an ally of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s. But for the second time in four years, Garrido lost to John Arena, a self-described progressive who received significant backing from unions and liberal donors."

Our Nation grieves with those affected by the shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas. 5150 N Northwest Hwy proposal left off state housing authority agenda

Preliminary agenda for state board meeting on low-income housing tax credits does not include proposal for 5150 N Northwest Hwy. Barring any late changes to the agenda, it is not clear what impact the lack of tax credits would have on the feasibility of the housing proposal for this year. The developer, Full Circle Communities, could not be reached for comment. Tax credits are often required for affordable housing developments. One local housing group has questioned the neutrality of the state board. http://nadignewspapers.com/2018/05/15/5150-project-not-on-preliminary-agenda-for-low-income-housing-tax-credits/

Thanks package thieves.......

Hope you enjoy the diaper cream, infant gloves and nasal aspirator you stole from my front door steps on Leland between Linder and Central (Saturday later afternoon). Hope karma bites you in the a&& for stealing items meant for a extremely congested 6 week old baby.

  • Sorry to hear that happened to you. Hope you were able to get the items you needed for the little one.

  • Family Man We call Police!

That's horrible I hope the baby gets well soon and you were able to get her some supplies.

North Branch Trail Alliance of Greater Chicago Awarded “Advocate of the Year” by the Active Transportation Alliance (ATA)

The North Branch Trail Alliance (NBTA) of Greater Chicago is excited to announce that it was awarded the “Advocate of the Year Award for 2017” by the Active Transportation Alliance (ATA), Chicagoland’s leading voice for biking, walking, and transit. Steve Simmons, ATA Trail Advocacy Manager presented the award and said, “We’re grateful to be working closely with NBTA to advance trail networks along the river. Trails strengthen economic development and provide users with lasting cultural experiences. NBTA has made a valuable contribution to trail development by hosting bike rides, partnering on workshops, and joining the Chicago River Trail Coalition.”

Jac Charlier, NBTA President said “For NBTA to receive this recognition of the local economic development work we are doing that’s helping our neighborhood downtowns from Albany Park to Mayfair, Forest Glen to Edgebrook, to Niles, Morton Grove, Glenview and beyond, speaks to the value of moving from mostly seeing bike trails for ‘health and hobby’ to understanding them as real economic drivers for our small businesses.” Charlier said that NBTA is currently seeking businesses as well as Chambers of Commerce interested in becoming NBTA 2018 Business Partners.

The next NBTA ride will be on Saturday, May 19 at 11:30 AM, with the theme “Icons of our Northwest Area.” More about NBTA at www.northbranchtrailalliance.com on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Our neighbors dog sit at their home. They seem to only take so many at a time so you will need to book in advance. The dogs all stay inside at night and are let in and out throughout the day. For all the details, email me through this site and, I will give you Sarah's phone number so you can call her. We are in Old Irving Park near Irving and Pulaski.

Jewel - Lawrence/Central

Hello,

Does anyone know why there was police activity at the Jewel at Lawrence/Central earlier? I hear that the lot was full of police (am at work and not able to check on neighbors to see if they are ok!).

Thanks!

Residents not happy with plans to start installing Wilson-Lamon digital billboard on Monday - Nadig Newspapers - Northwest Side Local Newspapers
by BRIAN NADIG A plan to start installing a digital billboard on Monday, May 7, in the eastbound lane of traffic in front of the Mayfair Pumping Station, 4850 W. Wilson Ave., was not well-received at a May 2 community meeting.
    http://nadignewspapers.com
  • Our Alderman voted against this deal when it was up in the city counsel. His hands are tied by the other Aldermen who approved this deal. Though I am not a fan of going down to 1 lane, this is what a compromise looks like. At least there will remain 2 way traffic through the area.

Postal workers walking across lawns!

Has anyone experienced this? I have seen this on a weekly basis. JP Post Office says you need to put it in writing and submit to post office to have it stopped. The complaint form is pre-populated with this #1 complaint. This is absurd to have to submit this request in writing only good for 1 year. Is this something new? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Consider Pope Francis Global Academy

It is that time of year where school and enrollment is on the minds of many parents. Come see Pope Francis Global Academy and all that it has to offer! This great school boasts two campuses with superb academic curriculum and great community. A north campus tour will be held on Tuesday, May 1st. Make an appointment for a south campus tour.
Any questions, call 773-892-2011 or email info@pfgacademy.org.

    Landing Page
Pope Francis Global Academy is an exciting faith-filled center of academic excellence delivering a strong core curriculum presented through a global lens. Our students are highly valued and feel at home. Our teachers are inspired by their faith and truly care for their students.

  • I would not send my child to Pope Francis. They can’t even keep a principal as he got fired after only being there a year. And the previous principal was only at St Tars for what about two years. Ever since the catholic schools merge it is no longer a nice neighborhood Catholic school and your really not getting a better education. I would consider the public schools. Or any of the other Catholic school. You have to trust me on this.

    Why, I don't trust anyone.

Got Carson's Gift Cards? -- Use them FAST!

Read today about Carson's closing. Had a Carson's Gift Card sitting around since Christmas. Called Carson's to verify its worth. A recorded message announced that as of April 18, 2018, the entire Bon-Ton inventory has been purchased by a liquidation company and Carson's Credit Cards are no longer valid for use; but Carson's Gift Cards are still valid.

Liquidation firms win bid for The Bon-Ton Stores, all Carson's stores to close
Two liquidation firms are the victors of an auction for the bankrupt company's assets, after the retailer failed to find a bidder willing to continue operating the business. A bankruptcy court approved the sale and liquidation details after a hearing Wednesday. The Bon-Ton Stores Inc.

  • I love Carson's. Shopped there regularly. I like department stores. I like dealing with human beings. All these department stores closing. I don't even know what could replace the Carson's at the HIP or Sears at Six Corners. What's left? Sad.

  • Yeah, their sale prices are NOT that great; current designer piece on "Clearance" at Carson's is available for 40% less at Bloomingdale's!!

And Tic-toc ... re Carson's Gift Cards. The following is from Bonton's site:

Can I still use gift cards or gift certificates? ...
    Yes, gift cards...

Yes, gift cards and gift certificates will continue to be honored for a period of 10 days following the first day of store closing sales, inclusive of the sale commencement date. Following this 10-day period, only cash and nationally recognized bank credit cards will be accepted during store closing sales. Gift Cards cannot be returned for cash

No, gift cards are no longer available for purchase."

*they don't provide definitive dates, but Carson's 'store closing sales' commenced April 20, 2018; so this Monday April 30 & Tuesday May 1 are the last day to use Gift Cards.
