Andersonville Barbecue Spot Pork Shoppe Shutters After Two-Plus Years
Sad news for barbecue fans. After almost two and a half years in Andersonville, Pork Shoppe has unexpectedly closed. The restaurant's telephone is disconnected and there's a sign taped to the entrance reading "closed 4 good" - complete with a frowny face - at 5721 N. Clark Street.
    https://chicago.eater.com
  • Anybody miss Augie's on Clark? Definitely not top of the line food, but consistently edible, easy for them to make space for larger parties, etc...
Not on topic, I know. It seems like the mom and pops places are shutting their doors. Whistler's had typical fare for the type of restaurant but was decently priced, family friendly, and had a parking lot. Always saw that "help wanted" sign though.

  • d3 NOH

It was weird they charged more at this location than the other. They must've had high rent.

Car break-in with no theft

Sometime last night or early this morning, our car was broken into and the glove box ransacked, but nothing appears to have been taken. We could have sworn we locked the doors, but they were all unlocked. Apparently, the same thing happened to a neighbor. Anyone else! This is near Glenwood and Winnemac.

if it wasn't their plan, it nevertheless is now the result

  • Northside Mike northside vigilant citizen

if you both think you locked the doors, and as northside chi residents i assume this is standard procedure for you, then maybe the thieves are using methods to unlock the doors, are theyh electric? there has been new ways thieves have been breaking in using NFC technology ...take a look

We've got our eye on a unit near Magnolia and Montrose, but I wanted to reach out to see if anyone on here would be willing to share any thoughts about living in the area. What do you guys like about it? What don't you like? Any thoughts on safety? As far as I can tell, the area around Magnolia and Montrose seems pretty safe, but I'm hoping to get some info from people who actually live nearby. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Rental renewal

Just asking if your leasing company offers to renew you and you except. Can they come back and not renew your lease even thou sending you the renewal offer?

  • Owen Wilson Sock it to me!

If renewed lease has not been signed by both parties, you still need to refer to the terms of the lease that is expiring.. If the new lease was signed then there should be no issue, unless something was violated. Good luck

  • Ok i asked if our leasing company asked us to renew and we agree. Can they take offer back cause eas told if they make an offer and we except cant resend it. I just wanted to be sure this is right

  • d3 NOH

They have to give you at least a 30 day notice of non renewal before the expiration date in most cases ....if it is less than that you have 60 days .

If they've signed the renewal as well that's a whole other issue and they are them trying to cancel an already executed contract which is harder than the above deadlines for them and can result in liability owed to you for moving early.

DVR External Hard drive recommendations?

We watch TV through the Dish Network and need an external hard drive to connect to our existing DVR (not a hopper unit). Does anyone have Dish and can recommend a brand/Model?

  • Look at a NAS unit like the Sinology Plus Series DS916+. It is expensive but has all the Bells and Whistles, except an HDMI Port. It has Wireless Streaming Only.

However some of the other leading brands do have NAS Units including HDMI.

Re: Honking

This is a necessary evil in the city. Although honking more than twice is over kill.
I stop and honk because so many people do not watch where they are going.
I have experienced parents on a cell and letting the kids just run down the street!
Other people are texting and don"t even have the sense to watch where they are going.

  • It not illegal to honk your horn in Illinois and it's positively absurd to make that statement. Cars throughout Illinois are sold with horns I assure you if it was illegal they wouldn't be in the car. There is no thread anywhere that references honking in Illinois being a legal. In fact it is actually illegal to drive on an expressway or highway without a horn.

  • John... Ravenswood

Stop at the side walk. Look both ways. Inch out, proceed. Exit an ally on busy commuter sidewalk route every day fo 18 years without honking, it's just not that hard folks.

Honking in alleys at sidewalks

Is this a strictly Chicago thing?? This is my first time living adjacent to an alley and it is SOOOOOOO obnoxious. Some cars honk 10 times as they approach the sidewalk and then still stop to see if anyone is coming (as they should), so the honking is basically pointless. What if someone who is hard of hearing is walking past, are you just going to keep going because you think a honk suffices at a pedestrian walkway? I hear people doing it at all hours, even as late as midnight in a clearly residential area. Anything that can be done about this short of me throwing eggs at every car who does it?

Chicago Waldorf School Coming to Andersonville

The property at 5200 North Ashland Avenue has stood vacant for too long so I am excited for the future of the school and the preservation of this historic building.

Chicago Waldorf School Coming to Andersonville
Dear Neighbor, As of February 20, 2018, the Lyman Trumbull Elementary School building is now the future home to the Chicago Waldorf School. Svigos Development and Waldorf have been in negotiations over the last few months for the purchase of the property where Waldorf will relocate its main campus.

Glad to know that at least it won't be torn down. But remember that this was once a public school that seemed to be thriving, and those students got displaced and most likely will not be able to afford this private school.

  • Exciting news! It will be great for both the Andersonville community and Chicago Waldorf to grow in Andersonville...looking forward to it!

Please help: Looking for quiet/soundproof apartment

Hello,

I’m fairly new to the city and have had really bad luck with excessively noisy neighbors. I’m looking for a quiet apartment to rent for July 1.

I know it’s early for listings but I really need to find a soundproof or very quiet place to live (ideally with ENFORCED noise violation procedures included in every lease).

I know that sounds extreme but noisy neighbors have affected my quality of life and it’s my #1 priority in finding a new place. Any advice on location or building types or landlords would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I like that Joe managed to work in "I have a gun and will shoot someone" to a conversation about apartment noise.

I have a 2nd floor unit. I’ve lived in apartments for many years. This one is the noisiest. I can hear the downstairs tenant sneeze, cough, talk on the phone, close doors, laugh & yell. When he sneezes, it sounds like he’s standing next to me. I can hear the upstairs tenant walk, dance, exercise, talk on the phone and play music. I’ve had 3rd floor apartments & they can be quiet. However in today’s RE market, with the renovations of many of the older & better constructed buildings, you also need to ask about construction. Personally, I will never live again in anything built or converted to condos after 1999.

Reliable Carpet Cleaner

Looking for a reliable carpet cleaner. Prefer a local owner with one of those truck mounted machines if around. Want to make sure he/she knows their profession and doesn't come in and overly saturate carpets to the point it takes days to dry. Not looking for "cheap" just want quality work at a fair price.

Need a Recommendation for a Bathtub Tile Contractor That's Reliable and Reasonable

I am looking for a person to replace the tiles and glaze the tub, does anybody have a recommendation in the area. I really appreciated it. Thank you in advance.

  • Jeromy is great! You can reach him at ‭(269) 547-0286‬.

  • Phil L. property owner/lincoln square

I recently had some glazing and tile work done recently, I won't tell you who originally did the work, as they made a mess of it. But the people who "fixed" it all would have charged half of what I paid and did a wonderful fix.
