Carpet Cleaning Recommendations Needed, Cat Urine Stain

Hi all,

My cat (the one in my profile photo) has been peeing on my low pile carpet and the staining is present on the reverse/bottom side. The carpet is 6ft by 5ft 9in. I'm not sure of the material, but I'm guessing synthetic. I'm a renter, but the carpet was bought by the previous tenant, so it's technically mine.

I'd rather get the carpet professionally cleaned than have to buy a new one. I don't care if the color changes, I just need a way to protect the wood floors and get the odor removed. I've already tried cleaning it by hand, but given the heavy staining on the reverse/bottom size, I'm concerned it'll eventually disintegrate and maybe stain the wood flooring.

Can someone please recommend an inexpensive place to get my small low pile carpet professionally cleaned in Edgewater? Can I take it to a regular dry cleaner or no? This is my first time having to do this.

Thanks!

(My cat is medically fine. He's recently been to the vet.)

  • Mute Mute Me

Its not fair to other responsible renters with cats to not fix this behavior issue. Can u put the box where the cat is peeing? Have you tried different litters? Are you using two litterboxes for one cat? Cleaning twice a day? Tried feliway diffusers. Ive only had two cats in my adult life and both went outside the box til i prompltly investigated and the problem was fixable.sometimes removing the rug fixes the problem.

  • Cats pee outside the box for different reasons. Perhaps he or she has a medical issue or you may not be keeping it clean. I’d take your cat to the vet. This isn’t normal vevahoir and needs to be addressed in addition to cleaning the stain which hopefully is your bigger concern.

We Support Our Uptown Starbucks on Broadway

Please read and sign if you agree. Starbucks and their employees deserve better in the wake of that terrible crime they had no part of. The completely unsubstantiated claims of "tolerating crime" are beyond the pale and unprecedented.

At the time of this posting approx. 670 of your neighbors have signed, read the comments made by actual patrons in their own name, in their own words.

Most of the employees of this Starbucks live in Uptown and are a solid part of our community, they need to be supported and shown love in the wake of a traumatic incident, not scapegoated. The petion will be delivered to the Alderman.

Thank You.

In regards to "the incident"

Uptown EB has been hijacked by people with an axe to grind against me. That is unfair to the greater readership who may or may not care. Of those who care, who are fair, deserve some explanation.

Until it is resolved there is little I can say. But when it is resolved I will release on the Sheridan Park Neighbors Page and other media outlets every detail. I will share every tape, every transcript...everything.

Until it is resolved there is little I can say. But when it is resolved I will release on the Sheridan Park Neighbors Page and other media outlets every detail. I will share every tape, every transcript...everything.

You will see then and only then. I embarrassed the Alderman. Yes I did. An argument could be made that it wasn't me who embarrassed the Alderman (Cappleman of course) but the Alderman himself for attacking Starbucks. The absurdity has not been lost on many so it seems. Whose fault is that?

But tell that to James Cappleman, his husband Richard Thale, and his excitable "team", I was harrassed on the street.

All the facts will be shared, by me in due time, I promise. You will see then what happened. In the meantime trolls are going to troll, to spin, the more they spin the more vindicated I will be. I have a perfectly clean record for a reason, I am peaceful, I am the peace garden artist, your artist Uptown.

In the meantime I cannot apologize for the incessant trolling its beyond my control these are adults, if it bothers you just report it, its all that can be done. I have been bullied in Uptown before, I was a skinny kid it happened all the time, I have been attacked, stabbed, shot at, beat up, I can handle it.

I am proud to have started the petition, to have given the people a voice to show love and support for the employees of Starbucks, my friends, our neighbors. I am proud of the people of the Uptown, well most of them. Thank you for the messages of love and support.

All will be shared. With Love,

  • My new landlord probably would. Call 773.507.9668. They have several buildings in Rogers Park and Edgewater. They may all be 2 bedroom though.

So I lost probably nothing except my naive belief that crime takes place in the wee hours - all good advice, lock doors and keep nothing of value in your vehicle , property crime is obviously up in the city - do what you can to not be a victim.Even if they don't take anything you're left with that creepy feeling of finding papers and stuff scattered all around your car, hard to shake.

The blog said there is surveillance video of one of the violent attacks. The robbers appear to be between 15-18 years old.

A “savvy billionaire” would be unlikely to shut down a business just because the workers unionized. But it could have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. Or just one more hassle he didn’t want to deal with to eventually, hopefully, make DNAInfo and Gothamist work.

That sign doesn't make a lot of sense anyway. When working, the walk light is lit when cars have the green light and are turning to enter the expressway!

The walk light should be lit when cars on Addison have the red light, and a "No Turn on Red" sign should be posted. Eastbound on Addison cars with an arrow would still need to stop for pedestrians.

  • Treasure Island is cool. But no setbacks at all. It's like a wall towering over Clarendon. Bad design that could have been avoided. It's like the building going up at the south end of Broadway by Sheridan. Goes right up to a narrow sidewalk. Everywhere you look it is concrete and signs down there.

It looks like the 4600 block of Broadway is close to being finished with its street repaving, all part of the Wilson Station rehab. Reader JMM says "Let there be stripes!" and sent in these photos taken today.

Crosswalk Signage Needed

There is a crosswalk at the intersection of Foster and Claremont, however there are no signs in either direction notifying drivers of this. I've seen children on their way to school almost get hit by speeding cars attempting to make the light at Western and Foster. This needs fixing immediately. I've requested 311 to do this at least 6 times over the summer. So far....

  • Bob Kastigar 15 Years North Park, bike rider, retired

It's not 'walk one block' - it's TWO blocks: one was to, and one way back from.

Cars should stop for pedestrians. What has a one-way street got to do with this question?

I saw a driver stop for pedestrians, that's the polite and sensitive thing to do, instead of drivers complaining on Every Block about things that get in their way and slow them down.

  • Citizen Pain Citizen Pain

Cars should respect pedestrians if the pedestrians are using a crosswalk. If the pedestrians are jaywalking the cars should also stop (of course) sans the respect part. That's the civilized way.

Thorndale and Sheridan: Loud bang around 6:45AMish this morning

I saw a bright flash of light from my apartment window that looks east, and then an explosive sound. All the power in my apartment went out for about an hour. Anyone know what it was?

  • Wazzup not available

sounds like a transformer blew out -these transformers are usually in the alley

Gerber Building Gets Some Love

The new terra cotta at the northernmost point of the Gerber Building is getting placed today (4600 block of Broadway). It's sure nice to see this one-magnificent building getting the rehab it deserves. Below is a photo from 2007, showing the condition into which it had been allowed to deteriorate.

Dear Neighbor: Thank you to everyone who contributed to a safe and festive Halloween in the 48th Ward. Though it was a bit chilly, we saw thousands of trick-or-treaters enjoying our community on Tuesday night. Last night in Uptown, a man was killed and two people were injured, including a 12 year-old boy, in a shooting incident that police believe was related to drug sales.
