Log Cabin Republican Calls Police on Wrong Woman

In what appears to be another case of calling the police because someone is Black, Morry Matson, Log Cabin Republican candidate for Edgewater's Mayor, has a lot of explaining to do. His last claim to fame was promoting a multi-million dollar carnival boardwalk in front of lots of people's homes and cutting off their unobstructed views of the lake.

Black woman says CVS manager called police because she had wrong coupon
Camilla Hudson wanted to use a manufacturer's coupon at CVS on North Broadway on Friday night, but a manager who said he'd never seen a coupon like that called the police, she said in a Facebook post. "So, THIS just happened: I had the police called on me for attempting to use a coupon @ the CVS Pharmacy located at 6150 N.

He gave us both the old "thumbs down" response even though you and I were not in total agreement. How can he disagree with both of us when we we pretty much disagreeing with each other?Lol. • I think it's great that Ald. Cappleman is the only Alderman with scheduled open office hours every Monday. The other Uptown aldermen have a lot of catching up to do.

  • Interesting Osterman doesn't have scheduled time to meet with constitues. Maybe that is one reason why Arygle is a mess.

Uptown's Sad Bike Lanes

We in Uptown have the ifnoble distinction of having the only bike lane the biking community rejects.

Maybe everyone isn't ashamed...but many are and how is that a good thing? Bike Lanes on the sidewalk to deter the homeless?

As both a pedestrian and a bike rider, I really appreciate the dedicated lane, especially under the bridge. I can't control cars and most don't pay attention. I do feel safe separated from vehicle traffic. I travel under the bridge almost every day now and can say for certain, everyone uses the right path here.

On a separate note, I noticed the new bike only lanes are up and running in the park. I do hope there is much more effort to create signage and educate the public on which lane to use for what. Currently I see the speed demons still almost colliding with pedestrians on the walking path and I see pedestrians literally just standing around on the bike only path.

Watching fireworks from Cycle and Saddle was a scary experience on July 4th if you were at Osterman Beach at Ardmore. 2 Private groups were constantly sending off HUGH fireworks in an attempt to compete with Cycle & Saddle. The noise was deafening- the sparks showered down on observers - and the Cycle and Saddle show was completed blocked out. Despite the very dangerous situation- Not a policeman in sight despite the obvious illegal activity. Watching Cycle and Saddle fireworks was impossible. Many finally left - and i suspect will never return to Osterman Beach for fireworks. This is a shame - a few individuals were allowed to ruin what should have been a great event. I suspect the high rises surrounding Ardmore were not happy either. Did they call police? The Alderman needs to give this appropriate attention next year. What a shame.

  • headsup not available

not the black high rise - we were on the Ardmore side of Osterman beach and they were shooting big rockets on that beach - sound blasting off the high rises and had sparks settling on the beach causing people to scatter creating a wide 'no man's land"

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

Why don't you just join Saddle and Cycle, headsup? I believe you claim to have the proper upbringing and background. That way you can enjoy the fireworks from the club next year and won't have to put up with the riff raff on the public beach. If you apply, though, I suggest you use the proper name for the club and not Cycle and Saddle as in your OP.

From Ald. Cappleman's email newsletter: "I am absolutely thrilled to share the news that McCutcheon Elementary in the 46th Ward will be building a new gymnasium! McCutcheon is one of only five schools among all 500 Chicago Public Schools without its own gym.

Menu money is roughly $1.3 million annually for each ward, so a little more than 10% of the estimated cost of this gym. Anyone who thinks all Alderman do is move cash around has a pretty limited view of Chicago city politics. Deal making is the job.

Why wasn't this done seven years ago? Could it be, in part, because seven years ago we were in the middle of the Great Recession and precious little was being done save for cutting jobs and suspending projects? Or because a freshman alderman takes a while to get things done?

Better yet, why wasn't this done in the 20 years prior, during the housing boom when money was easier to come by? The Wilson Yard, Lawrence Broadway TIF and Montrose/Clarendon TIFs were all created under the previous alderman.
