Hello. And no this isn't a viral letter about us leaving Chicago.....yet.

So we are now in appeals court in our litigation against North Park Elementary School in the 47th Ward. This was all simply due to our refusal to sell our property (in Coonley boundary area) to the private school so our kids could attend Coonley.

I am still dumbfounded by the justice system in light of the evidence as it continues to side with the influential/well connected in our liberal enclave.

Apparently emails/texts received in discovery such as those outlined below are not enough to show corruption/threats/RICO in our city's courts:

Board Member/Developer to NPES: "I’m going to push his (Chadha) buttons today. My statement to him will be that my customers feel his property is worth less now and may want to wait for city foreclosure and buy it as a side yard."

Principal to NPES Board Members: "Negotiations on 2035 w Montrose have completely halted….We could re-contact the Alderman’s Office and see if he can speed up the court date or put additional pressure on the owner. "

NPES Board Member meeting notes: "Chris feels we need to put this to rest before the owner has a better understanding of our role throughout the last 3-4 months…..I know the Alderman’s office will do anything possible to help us get that property…"

Board Member/Developer to me: "Good luck hope the city doesn't take it away. This was a sure thing"

Thanks for listening/caring,
Raminder S. Chadha

NPES appears to continue to believe that hunkering down and trying to ignore their terrible past misdeeds in this matter will somehow make this blotch on their reputation just fade away...it's up to us to make sure it doesn't!

Staubers Reopens as Lakeview Ace Hardware

I stopped in today to the old Staubers, which was sold to Lakeview Ace. The same staff folks are there, who have always been so neighborly and helpful. Just wanted you all to know they're back. I'm so glad. I'd much rather shop there than at a big box store.

Neighborly Litigation (Chadha v. NPES)

Many on this forum talk about litigating, be it for some unneighborly thing or other. Well, here is your chance to read the behind the scenes workings of the Chicago Way in its entirety (link below - get some popcorn and settle in) and VOTE.

This is the culmination of 7 years of attorney fees and a waste of our taxpayer-funded court's time/resources, in my opinion, of course.

Real Estate has always been considered a safe investment since the supply is finite and the demand grows with the population. Even though we have seen some swings in the real estate market over the past decade, the theory still is held true by many.

Kittyhop in Logan Square, I was standing at my rear kitchen window while on an important phone call, when I saw the perpetrator inside my truck. I yelled out as loud as I could and pounded on my window, which startled both the customer service representative and the a-hole in my truck. I ran out my backdoor towards my truck when he ran down the alley while clutching his, what looked like, a gun peering out of his shirt. I had left my vehicle unlocked (not any more), just to avoid damage to my vehicle in situations like this.

  • WOW!!That is quite something...and yes, scary that he might have had a gun....

(The guy from the service that jumped my car today had a gun in his belt..that ISN"T why I gave him a tip however...)< that's a joke...but he did have a gun..

Where to look for stolen jewelry?

My engagement ring (a family heirloom) was stolen from my apartment by a burglar, and I realize that it's probably gone, but I'd still like to do my due diligence to try and find it. I've been looking at Craigslist, ebay, and some resale sites (offerup, facebook market). The detective assigned to our case looked through the pawn shop database but no luck.

Any other suggestions.

Steven Rosley, owner of North Side rocks and gems shop, dies at 74

His business, Rosley’s Rocks and Gems, 4344 N. Western Ave., sells minerals to some customers interested only in their decorative qualities, but Rosley’s interests went far beyond that.

Steven Rosley, owner of North Side rocks and gems shop, dies at 74
Steven Rosley started selling gems, stones and crystals to support his family but gradually came to see his merchandise as something that offered spiritual nourishment and healing to those who believed in their powers. "He really grew into that belief in the metaphysical power of stones over the years in the business," said his son, Luke Faith-Rosley.

Broken car window

A day late asking .... came out at 6:30 am to find my car window on driver's side had been busted in. Nothing stolen (not that there was anything), just really irritating. Wondering if anyone else in area had same experience? Happened on Francisco between Belmont & Elston.

  • Was this Halloween night?

  • Yes, unfortunately. I have lived in Chicago for 15 years .... 2.5 in this neighborhood and have never had any issues.

  • It was a group of neighborhood teenage kids who busted car windows on multiple vehicles with a baseball bat on Halloween night. If anyone else had their windows busted in the Avondale neighborhood or by the Target on Addison near Sacramento park send me a private message and I’ll pass along the information I have.

The corner of Belle Plaine and Harding has the grates so clogged , I tried to open one with a metal rod, and hit what felt like solid rock. When it rains the whole intersection , including 3 feet up the sidewalk (sloped) is a lake. Not a huge deal now, but in a month when it freezes , it's going to be a major hazard for walkers and drivers. I called the aldermans office once, will call them again today... but if anyone else has noticed , do us all a favor and call, time is flying.

Karen is right leave water in street better than in your basement.I would block my street drain partially with plywood during heavy rains to avoid basement flooding at my old home, now they have restrictors in sewers.

  • My basement never floods. This is not a low lying area . And I'm not taking heavy rains, just any rain. I'm pretty sure leaving a flooded intersection to freeze is not going to be a good thing. I called the alderman and they are going to check it out,so we'll see

Knife Steakhouse Closes Just One Year After Opening In North Center

Knife, 4343 N. Lincoln Ave., billed itself as a "Downtown steak experience on the North Side." Chef Timothy Cottini's contemporary spin on classic steakhouse fare included a wedge salad reinterpreted with grilled heads of baby iceberg lettuce and a 28-day dry-aged ribeye carved tableside.

Knife Steakhouse Closes Just One Year After Opening In North Center
NORTH CENTER - Just a year after opening, Knife steakhouse is done in North Center. No notice has been posted to the restaurant's storefront, nor has an announcement been made on social media, but staff at Knife's sibling, Fork, in Lincoln Square, confirmed the steakhouse shuttered a week ago.

That is too bad. It was a good place. I ate there recently and planned to return. Restaurant owner need to realize that they need to plan on losing money for about 3 years. If you can weather that and draw business in, you are in pretty good shape. A lot restaurants close in less than a year, even though they are great and crowded. Poor planning, underfinanced. Andersonville and Lincoln Square are full of restaurants that would make it given a better business plan and more investment.

Belligerent parent at drop-off

This morning, as I'm taking my daughter to drop her off, I am coming real slowly (crawling because I don't honk) into the intersection from alley by USPS. This North Park Elementary School parent starts honking at me, flicks me off and cuts me off. Her husband (most likely) and daughter are in the car so they can vouch for this. Naturally I stop to take a photo of this vehicle because it made no sense. This is how you exit onto Montrose from one's garage. But the kicker is my daughter is saying "What a cool car" the whole time...Thank you Tesla for making an awkward situation with my child ok.

Heating elements under carpeting...has anyone had any success with this?

We are about to replace our carpet. I notice we have zero insulation (I will add that.) And, we want to heat our floors.

Has anyone here tried any rollout, low-voltage under-carpet heating elements? I see they are available but am curious effective they are under a thick pad and carpet.

  • I do not have an electric, low voltage product, but my concrete slab underneath my carpeting is radiant (hot water)

It's totally effective, the carpeting has no real ability to reflect the heat anywhere but up into itself.
