Neighborly Litigation (Chadha v. NPES)

Many on this forum talk about litigating, be it for some unneighborly thing or other. Well, here is your chance to read the behind the scenes workings of the Chicago Way in its entirety (link below - get some popcorn and settle in) and VOTE.

This is the culmination of 7 years of attorney fees and a waste of our taxpayer-funded court's time/resources, in my opinion, of course.

Hazel + Junior?

I came home about 30 minutes ago (8:30PM) and couldn’t get through the intersection because of several squad cars blocking Junior. They didn’t have their lights on, but there were officers walking around, seemingly looking for something. Anyone know what’s going on?

  • Lake View High School reviewed by a student

The school has been trying to improve its reputation ever since the new principal has taken the lead. BUT the student body itself HAS NOT been improved which might surprise others. Want proof? Well, when I graduated, we had a surprise guest: the CEO of CPS, Forrest Claypool who visited only our high school out of all CPS because apparently Lake View had the highest graduation year. That might sound like a good thing, right? Not if you knew that student who didn't meet the graduation requirements STILL graduated. Another example, recently a kid with autism was physically bullied by another student... more specifically FLIPPED sending the kid with autism to the hospital. Yup. Lake View High School DOES NOT address the issue of bullying. Oh... Forgot to tell you! A classmate of mine had brought a taser to school and was playing around with it in class. I approached the deans with the issue and it was never addressed. Yes, they might have a great STEM program and other great opportunities like College Possible, etc but trust me, IT IS NOT WORTH putting your child through what he/she sees at Lake View.

Package Theft

After having a package stolen from our porch, I am now using anAmazon pick up locker. There are locations all over mine is in a 24 hr. 7-11. It’s free, they email you when it’s coming and send you a barcode to open the locker. No hassle Great service to use especially during the holiday shopping season. Boz

    Thanks Mousie! great suggestion.
UPS left a package last night for my upstairs neighbor...
in the back yard! Good thing it didn't rain.

  • Good to know. Walking through the neighborhood a couple of days ago I saw packages on porches and on stoops all over the place. Several large packages were just leaned up against apartment building doors right on the sidewalk of a busy street. I'm amazed anyone gets anything they order!

How to get a private cab or vehicle for a physically challenged senior?

She won't take the Pace bus for starters and its almost impossible to get her into our sedan as she screams when she has to dip down to get into the seat. Feels like she is falling.
Is there a private car or medicar that she can get into more easily - maybe the seat is higher?
She uses a rollator/walker to get around. She can barely walk and is almost blind.
We need to go with her down to medical appointments at Northwestern. She has a thing about riding with other people.
Thanks for any advice!!

  • Carole Ogden retired

She will easily qualify for Pace ADA Paratransit Service. It is a wonderful service for handicapped individuals and costs $3.00. Call their Help line at 312-663-4357. As with any service like this you may need to spend a little time getting to the right place to help you, but it is well worth it. They have all handicapped accessible vehicles with ramps etc.

  • Wow, this is great information, didn't realize any of this existed. Bookmarking for future needs. Thanks to all.

Anyone else have water damage from that all day storm yesterday?

Our 100+ year old brick 6 flat - we live on the top floor - had a small puddle of water on a front room window sill this morning. 'Must have come in from the roof and then down behind the wall. Drat.
I wonder if it is an insurance issue? Anyone have a similar experience?
Thanks for any advice.

  • Hi Anne. We used Bral Restoration for the masonry on the front and roof (e.g., parapet wall). It was not cheap (I don't think anyone is) but I really trusted their opinion. With all the rain we had last week we didn't have a drop come in the house. Al Kristoffer is the owner of Bral - their website is http://www.bralrestoration.com/. Good luck - I know this is a very unfun way to spend a lot of money :)

Please share this post with anyone who would be willing to adopt a lovely beagle!

I found a lost and starving beagle on 9/30 and no one claimed her and unfortunately, I could not keep her any longer. It’s a female who is ~10 years old, and currently she is at the Animal Welfare league in Chicago Ridge. This shelter is unfortunately not a no-kill shelter, which I did not find out until afterwards. She is super sweet, gentle, good with other dogs and humans. This shelter was the only one who was willing to take strays so it was the only option I had. I feel heartbroken that I could not keep her and that she is currently sitting in a cage. Please share so that someone will see this and adopt her. She deserves a loving home and owner. Please message me if you have any questions/information.

  • Has CACC posted her? If so, can you share that link? It will be easier to share on Facebook with rescue groups.
