Furniture refinisher

Does anyone know or can recommend a furniture refinisher who will work on the project on site? I've contacted a couple of the commercial establishments, and after getting quotes thought I'd try Plan B.

'This is how we do it in Chicago!': CPD investigating whether alderman posed as cop during parking flap

'This is how we do it in Chicago!': CPD investigating whether alderman posed as cop during parking flap
Chicago police are investigating whether Ald. Proco "Joe" Moreno impersonated a cop during a parking flap Sunday in the Lakeview neighborhood during which he allegedly flashed a "badge" and demanded that a woman move her parked car, according to a police report.
    http://www.chicagotribune.com

  • So Maria de la Rosa-Young, does his "aldermanic badge" signify he has some kind of police powers, or other authority to regulate parking, or was he just "pulling rank"? In other words, overstepping is authority as an alderman? Shouldn't he have called the police?

In my estimation, he has no more authority to order someone to park elsewhere than you or I do, which is okay, but we don't have the powers entrusted in us for enforcement. I think he misused his office.

  • Maria de la Rosa-Young Gardener and coffee lover

According to the Trib article aldermen appear to have some law enforcement powers and therefore carry badges:

"Under a state law enacted in 1872, aldermen are designated “conservators of the peace,” enabling them to carry a concealed gun and to make arrests after passing a test and receiving special certification to carry the weapon. Members of the City Council are issued badges in that capacity."

  • Li, imagine you are parking your car into a legitmate spot....and then some entitled jerk of an alderman pulls up, flashes some kind of "badge" and ousts you from a parking spot that you are legally able to use, and were in the process of occupying.

you don't see any issue with that?

Honestly the Alderman's side of the story sounds a lot less embellished and believable. However...why are we still issuing badges to Aldermen...its silly.

The South Loop retail scene is about to get a bit more crowded

In addition to its South Loop retail project, GW is working on a 127-unit apartment building in Logan Square near the 606 trail and a 37-unit apartment development at Belmont and Sheffield avenues in Lakeview. The firm also plans a multifamily project at Western and North avenues in Wicker Park.

A venture of GW Properties paid $10.4 million for the 77,000-square-foot property at 1113 S. Jefferson St., the site of a Marathon gas station and garage, confirmed GW principal Mitch Goltz.

So while the broader trend may be working against retail developers, the South Loop's growing population of high-income residents is working in their favor. Roosevelt Road has become the South Side's version of the North and Clybourn shopping district near Lincoln Park.
