Illegal handyman flyers posted on my garage which has two “No Soliciting” signs posted

So, after months of having my two “No Soliciting” ignored and illegal handymen flyers taped to my garage I’ve decided to get some satisfaction.

I called Jose yesterday and gave him an imaginary address about half way down the block from me. He stopped by half an hour later in the alley to look at the garage that “needed a lot of work”. Soon after getting there he started texting & calling me for me to come out. After about 20 minuets he drove away. I then texted him and told him why I just wasted 30 mins of his time. He replied in a viulgar laced text.

It made my day, no it made my week!

  • Sue F. Long time resident

These flyers have been an illegal annoyance for a long time. Cathgal08 was well within his rights as the homeowner with a posted No Soliciting sign. Those flyers trash our neighborhood. For every action, there is a reaction. Glad he taught him a lesson that day.

  • Oh here we go.....Bob, the OP IN NO WAY applied any prejudice.

making an unfounded accusation like that is dreadful, and anyone who does it should be ashamed of themselves.

    how dare you.

Firefighter kneels before football game

Has anyone seen a public statement from Ald. Sposato or Napolitano about this? I know I saw a picture of them at the game.

What do people think of this?

https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/black-firefighter-takes-knee-at-charity-football-game-cpd-cfd-garry-mccarthy-anger/

Black firefighter takes heat after taking knee at police-fire football game
A political and emotional brush fire is smoldering within a grieving Chicago Fire Department over a national anthem protest that marred a charity football game dedicated to the memory of two fallen Chicago heroes.
    https://chicago.suntimes.com
  • No, the NFL doesn't. They have banned personnel from kneeling if they are on the field for the national anthem. Which itself is a joke since the NFL takes money for those "patriotic" displays. Can't people find something else to get their panties in a bunch over? Who cares if someone kneels or doesn't kneel for the flag?

  • Chris, patriots care, freedom loving citizens care, widowed spouse of military veterans care. The point is that NFL management are hypocrites, and this display of disrespect is irreverent, unnecessary, unacceptable, and intolerable to many.

What is the truth Ald. Sposato

Yesterday, Nick Sposato posted on FB (in all capital letters for emphasis) that the new school being built on Oak Park Ave was going to be a neighborhood high school. Today I see an article saying that it will be a freshman academy for Taft with selective enrollment for 7th & 8th graders and that Sposato attended a meeting on May 8th where he said it was 90% confirmed. Does anyone know the truth? Are our elected officials purposely misleading the public because it is an election year?

Freshman academy for Taft HS appears 'almost a done deal' - Nadig Newspapers - Northwest Side Local Newspapers
by BRIAN NADIG The Taft High School Local School Council at its May 8 meeting received good news about the prospects of a new freshman campus to help relieve overcrowding at Taft. "It's almost a done deal that it's going to be a freshman academy," Alderman Nicholas Sposato (38th) told the LSC.

  • I know when they opened a new charter school in Avondale it was only Freshman the 1st year. Then freshman and sophomore the next till they build all 4 years. I know charter isn't the same as COPS but this maybe why only Freshman the 1st year.

@Chitownliz Yes, that would be my solution as an alderman too. Freshman first year, Freshman and Sophomore second year, etc. It would be a 4-year transition. The reasoning behind that would be to keep the kids in one school all 4 years. That would prevent current seniors, juniors, and sophomore kids from transferring from the Taft North campus to the Taft South campus. If this is the plan, then it should be honestly explained to the public this way.

I remember when Gordon Technical High School went co-ed. The first year plan was to allow freshman girls in, the second year, sophomore girls, third year junior girls, etc. The transition was smooth.

Water seepage after the rain

Did anybody get some water in their basement after last nights rain? It looks like the water came in to our basement through the wall in 3 spots... did anyone have the same problem? Does anyone have someone they can recommend and give me a ballpark idea of how mich it would cost to fix?

  • Hello everyone, I know that some of you were interested in this topic. I was waiting to see if with more rain everything will be fine and not even one drop after Mark came out to fix the cracks in our basement. Flat fee of $275 per crack (which was...

I was waiting to see if with more rain everything will be fine and not even one drop after Mark came out to fix the cracks in our basement. Flat fee of $275 per crack (which was wayyyyyy less than other companies that I called.) He came out quickly and did the work professionally the same day! We are very happy with his work, glad that he's right in the area so he could come out right away. So here's his info as I recommend him 100% Mark 773-517-2390

Dear Des Plaines River & Trail Stakeholder,

Active Transportation Alliance recently launched a campaign (we had our kickoff meeting in late February) to bring together key stakeholders, from local elected officials to Country, State, and Federal agencies to regional planning bodies, to form a coalition aimed at addressing access and connectivity issues along the southern end of the Des Plaines River Trail, from Touhy Avenue to North Avenue.

Among the objectives of the coalition are to dive into understanding the political, geographic, and funding barriers that exist along this section of the trail. We’ll also be examining how the forming of a coalition, the release of a Phase I engineering study, and the formation of a “Friends Of” group for this section of the trail can serve as instrumental elements in identify solutions and ensuring improvements are made.

You are invited to the next meeting of the Des Plaines River & Trail Coalition, which will take place from noon – 2 pm on Wednesday, May 23rd at the Franklin Park Police Department building (9451 Belmont Avenue, in the Community Room). Lunch will be provided. At this meeting, we’ll have a thorough discussion of the physical constraints (connectivity, flooding, access, etc.) along the southern end of the Des Plaines River Trail (from Touhy Avenue to North Avenue). We’ll also hear from one of the founders of the Cal-Sag Trail Coalition and the Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail on how they formed their organizations and how they identified and achieved their goals.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP at the following link: http://go.pardot.com/l/213232/2018-04-24/2whlr

We hope to see you at noon on Wednesday, May 23rd!

For this meeting, we’ll be exploring in great detail the existing trail connections and some possible access points along the southern segment of the DPRT with the project managers from Christopher B. Burke Engineering (who are conducting the Phase I engineering study). We’ll also have a presentation from Diane Banta (of the National Park Service), who helped found the Cal-Sag Trail Coalition and Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail and was instrumental in getting the Cal-Sag Trail moving forward.

This isn't a particularly hyped type of place, but it does seem to be fairly popular in the new neighborhood I moved to. Just wanted to share my experience for anyone who might happen across it.

Absolutely atrocious. Delivery arrived damaged and the driver handed me my food in various boxes outside the bag. I told him I didn’t want to accept the order because it was mostly damaged and leaking and I couldn’t even get it inside in the state it was in. He more or less shrugged and said take it up with the restaurant. This jerk didn’t even bother to help me carry it upstairs even though it was no longer in deliverable condition.

Called the restaurant to complain and they said they could make me a new order. I declined because I’m not waiting another two hours to deal with the same delivery guy. They said they would refund. When I didn’t get an email saying it was refunded, I called Grubhub. Shocker, the restaurant never called to refund. Grubhub then had to contact the restaurant, who admitted they had received my call but not taken action, and again, offered to remake the order. No dice. I demanded a refund for the portion of my order that was damaged and inedible and for the driver's tip to be refunded.

Even the items that were not damaged were just terrible. A burger and fries are not supposed to be so damp they are falling apart and the Buffalo fries were missing the chicken and bleu cheese that were supposed to come on them (also completely soggy and inedible, I could mush them with a fork they were so soft). I've tried this restaurant once before and they left an item out of the order, but their Cobb salad was great so I decided to give them another shot. Mistake on my end.

Terrible food, terrible service and the delivery guy should be fired. You don't hand someone destroyed, leaking boxes of food, refuse to take it back and not even help them get the order inside. Anyone in the Belmont Cragin and Elmwood Park area steer clear.

  • If it's the one on Grand this this must of happened a while ago because the slice Factory been closed for at least 6 months to a year

Local Landscaper Wanted

Hello,
We are looking for a local company to do some heavy work on our front and back lawns. We need tilling, some sod, stumps removed and recommendations on what to do with bushes that appear dead to me as well as removal of wood chips and gravel. Looking to get this all done before it gets too far into summer. Thank you!

Plumbing company recommendation?

Can anyone suggest a good reasonable plumbing company to replace my hot & cold water valves for the washer. No need to open wall, just shut down water line in the building. Anyone might be able to give me an estimate? So far I was told $325. I think kinda high. Thx

Concrete stair repair and iron railing repainting contractors

I saw a post on this same topic from 2014, but was looking for more up to date information. I am looking for a contractor to do concrete repair on the front steps of my house. Specifically, I have a crack and separation along the base of the first riser at the walkway (see photo). Other than this there is no major problems with the concrete. Ultimately, what I would like to have done is crack repair, new parge coat, and iron railings prep and paint. Looking for suggestions on contractors used for similar projects in my area. Thanks in advance.
