How to get a referendum started?

Would anyone know where to go to get a referendum on the ballot? would it be the City or County? and is there a cost?
I'm going to start a 5 strikes & out petition.

Li Wright - your “easier” path (than a referendum) would be to approach your state legislators and get them to sponsor a bill.

I love the idea but it’s an uphill climb. And not the solution you might think. As I wrote before, the 5 (or 3) strikes rule is often used by prosecutors as leverage to get plea deals. A criminal will often plea a felony down to a misdemeanor, which doesn’t count as a strike. Then they do less jail time and are back on the streets faster.

We need truth in sentencing. It’s amazing how often we read that a criminal was sentenced (for example) in 2012 to 6 years in prison and then somehow was on the street in 2017 committing a crime. It used to be even worse - basically an extra day of credit for every day served to reward them for “good behavior.” In jail? Resulting in serving 1/2 of their sentence.

And stricter gun laws. Not gun control. Unlawful possession of a firearm gets an automatic minimum sentence. And/or a multiplier to the sentence for the crime you were committing while in unlawful possession of the gun.

Transparency and honesty are what the justice system needs. Good luck with that!

    You're right, Neighborhood Dad!

Ravenswood and Irving Park

Hi all, the police and fire department just shut down Ravenswood north of Irving Park Rd (9:15pm Tuesday 11/14) anyone know why?

  • There was a fire in the uniform company in the 4100 block of Ravenswood.

  • I left 4043 Ravenswood at around 10 and saw four ambulances, two fire trucks, and the police car blocking Ravenswood at Irving. Its odd that something calling for that kind of response wasn't covered in the media.

Holy Sh*t, I'm standing last night on my porch around 10:45pm having my drinks before heading downtown to Gibson's, and this huge animal which I later learn to be a coyote, zipped at 100mph past my house east on Hutchinson.

  • My sister saw that dude by the PNC bank a few months back. Got a good picture of him.

  • A picture of Yves? Or the coyote?
