Roof Sealing Recommendation

Hi neighbors - I'm looking to seal the roof of my four-story condo building and wondering if anyone has had a good experience with any particular company? Also, I'd love to know general cost for sealing - I'm looking to have approx. 1,500 SF of roof sealed. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Eric Pepeson NW sider, modern conservative

I'm looking for border sealer, about 1954 miles of it!

  • Thanks Eric - solely looking for roof sealing recommendations. If I wanted conservative commentary, I'd just find the nearest Klan meeting.

  • ask those people if you can set the trap in their yard - or you can try by your house.....you have to check if all the time - - you might catch other animals too - - good luck - hope he comes home soon.

  • call his name when you get close to where you think he is....and meow like a cat - he might come to you

Lost Cat

Our cat, Sas, has been missing since late Tuesday night. She is light grey and not wearing her collar. Please text 773-220-2450 if you see her. She will usually come to people if approached gently.

Thanks for the info. That is very helpful. Didn't mean to be so hard on you. Good luck.

I’m so sorry! I just lost my first cat too- it’s the worst feeling. Some tips that have worked for me:
    - make flyers with his picture and your contact info and hang them all over
    - look at night when it’s dark and quiet, alleys are usually where I see cats
    - keep the litter box outside, apparently they can smell it from far away
-put out food and water and something that smells like you and maybe a toy they liked
    - they usually don’t go far, ask your neighbors if they’ve seen them
    - post on Facebook groups-there is a group for Avondale, Craig’s List, etc. there is an app called Next Door that is helpful
    - Treehouse cat rescue will let you borrow a trap for free! And they’ll give you support and advice for finding your cat! They are really nice.
    - I walk around at night, I saw my cat last night I’m the alley by our house but he ran away and hid really good when I went to him. If your cat is nervous it’s hard- but don’t give up!
I hope you find your cat!
    I’ll be on the lookout!

2 hispanic males with gun

Today at around 630am at Belmont and Kimball I witnessed 2 shirtless hispanic males walking south on Kimball and one of them was trying to hide a gun in front of his pants. I called 911 to report them. Hopefully police responded right away and took these 2 punks off the street.

    BTW - Juan, don't misunderstand.

I do think that MOST people, myself included, would do the same as you described in your original post. That's not my issue.

My main issue is - putting aside all other arguments RE constitutionality, natural rights, etc. - is how some people manage to fixate on the firearm and do not direct an equivalent degree of ire at the person misusing that firearm.

No, it's 100% true. If you have a millennium to spare do a search on EB on the topic.

If 1 out of 1,000 posts or responses were about the attacker/killer then I will give you one of my excellent cigars.

I believe the crux of that mindset is that the anti-gunners aren't disclosing that what they hate more than the guns, is the killing. What they really want is to stop the killing. There are uncounted numbers of anti-gunners who are simply putative pacifists in that regard.

After eons of trying they have not been able to achieve that. Most of them would have to know that this just can't ever happen. The earth won't exist long enough to see a substantial change in human nature so as to make that time of tranquility possible.

So, unable to get what they want by asking people to be nicer to each other they turn their attention to the instrumentality of their displeasure ... the weapon used.

But as I've said before, what, 350,000,000 firearms? Billions of rounds of ammunition.

If anti-gunners really do want to stop the shootings then they have to demand that the shooters - the individuals - doing the shooting be stopped and judicially processed.

And their demands need to be louder than their "anti-thing" crusade.

In the meantime, the anti-thing argument is just so played out folks. C'mon ... let's go after something that we CAN achieve. Criminal justice.

Stopping criminal individuals. Can we not agree that this should be our No. 1 priority?

  • Juan, don't unsubscribe just yet. With an open mind, read Gil's post. He is being the voice of reason. He is sincerely appealing for to you to think this through. The problem of "gun violence" and gun crime will not be resolved through EB gun control debates. What Gil has to say makes perfectly good sense if only you are willing to be receptive to his message.

Ginger/Orange Tabby escaped

My 2 year old ginger cat got out last night from Cornelia and Ridgeway. His name is Bernie. He is chipped and has a collar and tag but I think he will be too afraid to let anyone come near him to be able to read the rag. When he got out before I had trouble catching him as he was so nervous. Please let me know if you spot him so I can try looking where he was last seen.
Thanks!

  • I thought I should post a quick update on Bernie. He is still on the loose and proving a real challenge to capture. We think he may be on Eddy between Hamlin & Springfield. We have cameras set up after a few sightings and are trying to trap him but...

I thought I should post a quick update on Bernie. He is still on the loose and proving a real challenge to capture. We think he may be on Eddy between Hamlin & Springfield. We have cameras set up after a few sightings and are trying to trap him but there are several neighborhood cats who are getting caught instead and probably scaring Bernie away. The weather isn't helping either. We're still hopeful we can eventually get him home I just wanted to thank everyone who has called and been on the lookout for him.

  • Just keep trying to trap him. When I was trapping my cat I caught another cat, I released him and the second time the trap went off I had caught her. Also before I set the trap I put food and water out. She did come home to eat but as soon as she saw me ran. Good luck. Hope you find him soon.

We think Bernie is hiding out on Eddy between Hamlin and Springfield but we are having a really hard time tracking him down as there are several wild gardens for him to hide in and the weather has been so uncooperative. We caught a cat on a camera that we set up that looks a lot like him. Still hopeful we can get him home!

Let's leave any comments about the alderman's office for another post.

So now I turn to EveryBlock. My main focus here is to get rid of the sofas. Will the city garbage people take these sofas away? If not, do i need to rent a truck to go dump these 2 sofas somewhere? If so, where can I go dump them?

One sofa is a 3 seater and another is a 2 seater.

  • Thank you everyone! Sounds like calling 311 is the first step I should take and if that doesn't work, just putting the couches out there and hoping not to get fined.

Odd event at School and Avers

Odd event near the park on School Street. Walking by CVS I see first a battalion chief, then a deputy district chief go the wrong way up the street and stop by the park. See an engine standing there, but no bystanders, no sign of EMS. A little further up the block there is one CPD SUV. It's surrounded by firefighters but only two or three cops. No one in it. FF completing paperwork on the hood of the SUV. All personnel present, both police and fire, are very quiet. No one in the neighborhood paying any attention to them, no distraught bystanders, etc. Never saw or heard any follow up response, such as ambulance.

What happened last night

There were cops all over the streets and helicopters on top my neighbor said that someone got shot but saw nothing on the new

  • If you are hoping for a response, the location to which you are referring should be provided.

  • Maz ethnic/cabaret accordionist, bungalow owner

What CubsHawksBears said. I did a separate post on NextDoor urging people to please give a location when posting about events or crime. We don't need to know your exact address, just a general area, i.e. Belmont & Pulaski, 3600 block of N. St. Louis, etc.

  • I heard them and saw them overhead, roughly circling around Milwaukee/Pulaski and probably on the other side of the freeway along Pulaski. Seemed like another helicopter was further north - maybe as far as Wilson? Spotlights used along Pulaski near Cornelia. Happened roughly 8:30 to 9:30 Thursday night. Didn't go outdoors, so can't comment on police activity on the ground. The helicopter closest to Pulaski/Cornelia flew very low.
