To my neighbors who'll be transitioning to the new site, please be careful what you divulge or report, remember, the bad guys also go through these sites to find out if their cover has been blown and to see who is reporting them, of course they probably did it in Every Block I'm sure, but at least here, we remained anonymous. Please remember that anyone can lurke these open sites, not just your good neighbors and the bad guys never post, they just listen, so please be careful, be safe, prosper and be well, I'll miss you all.

Governor Rauner chose criminals over children and families when he announced today he would veto a public safety measure that would protect communities from illegal gun trafficking.

We are outraged the Governor sided with the gun manufacturers, their lobby and the criminals who continue to cause death and injury with firearms purchased from unregulated gun dealers. His statement reflects that he has little, if any concern for the children who are murdered each day by gun violence in Chicago and the rest of our state.

Corrupt gun dealers in Illinois flood our cities and towns with over 4000 crime guns every year. The Combating Illegal Gun Trafficking Act, a bipartisan measure that passed the General Assembly with a wide margin of support in May will save lives by holding corrupt gun dealers accountable and reducing the number of guns getting into the hands of criminals.

By stating he would veto this bill, Governor Rauner proved once again the gun industry and their lobby are more important than the lives of Illinois children and their families. We urge our lawmakers to be a part of the solution and do whatever is necessary to combat the Governor’s dangerous commitment to veto this bill.

Crime Watch

For residents on the 3700 Block of Richmond and Waveland...A middle aged/older white female with short cut blond/brown hair was seen casing cars on the block and trying door handles. She was wearing a black backpack. My roommate was walking our dog and confronted her, asking her if the car she was touching was hers and she said it was not. I think she got freaked out and walked away. If you live on this block, be sure to lock your car doors!

Lol! Thanks again NW-sider ;) Robin- sorry I don't have any designers to recommend. As a home stager I also help my buyer clients with what we call "staging for life" and have helped many with new kitchen and bath design. My mom was an interior designer, Dad a builder, as I said above and so it's in my blood. I like to work with Studio41 for kitchen layouts and for the cabs once I've got a design together. Then I also work with A-American for counters and tiles. But, I also am a big fan of Tile Outlet on Fullerton, just to name a few vendors that I go to when helping my own clients with design. And because I'm a realtor I see a lot of the latest designs and I guide my clients on what's current and yet classic that will stand the test of time when it comes time to sell their properties. If I could clone myself I'd be an interior designer officially, but really, just an adjunct to my RE biz. Wish I could be more helpful!

i haven't thought out the details, because i know we are all from different neighborhoods...but calling it chicago-northsiders or something comes to mind. there are already a couple of NWside sub-reddits, but they are vastly underused. we could at least just start one and see what happens.

Rauner Signs 'Red Flag' Gun Law

Gov. Rauner also signed a law that would extend a 72-hour hold on all guns.

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Gov. Bruce Rauner on Monday signed a new law to keep firearms away from those who may use them to commit acts of violence against themselves or others. Rauner announced the news on social media, saying the "red flag" law, known as the Lethal Violence Order of Protection Act, gives law enforcement and family members the chance to prove in court that a person in possession of guns is suffering from mental health issues and is a threat.

The new legislation allows courts to prohibit gun possession or purchase through what Rauner calls emergency civil restraining orders.

    QUESTIONS FOR BOB...

If we ban guns, will criminals no longer be armed?

How do you account for the fact that whenever and wherever guns are banned, the murder rate increases?

Why should the rights and liberties of the law-abiding be contingent upon the conduct of the lawless?

Since guns are effectively employed by the criminal, why should they not be available to the law abiding for self-protection against the criminal?

Why focus on gun control rather than crime control?

Is it sensible to pursue crime prevention by disarming its victims?

If guns are too dangerous to be in society, why do our leaders want to be the only ones who have guns?

If guns are the problem rather than a solution, why do politicians have armed bodyguards but don't want the citizenry to own guns?

If you and your loved ones were face-to-face with an attacker twice your size, what would you do If you were unarmed? What could you do If you were armed?

With so many gun laws already on the books, why do gun crimes still exist?

Which is preferable ... to have a gun and not need it or to need a gun and not have it?

Would you be willing to erect a sign in front of your house declaring it a gun-free zone?

Would there have even been an American Revolution and a United States of America if a gun ban were in effect?

  • I guess I have to play catch up on these retarded bob threads.

I just got back from sitting down with Indiana where I am moving 160 jobs OUT OF ILLINOIS for.

Eugene Field(house) River Dumping

Hi Albany Park Neighbors,
On more than one occasion I have seen someone dump plastic bags with animal parts into the bridge passing over the river here. They simply get out of their GMC walk to the river bridge and throw in a bag of animal parts. This also has happened at Central Park. Has anyone else witnessed this and has anyone got a license plate number? I'm hoping to take information to the Alderman. Thanks for your help!

  • What they're doing is gross & wrong on many levels (what type of animal parts and obtained how, etc...?). Hope you can collect enough info to have them caught and stopped.

  • future alderman future alderman

Why Are There So Few Bars in Albany Park?

Why are there so few places in Albany Park where one can sit down and have a drink? There are a ton of good restaurants, but so few of them have liquor licenses. What gives?

A neighborhood is defined by neighbors, and having places where one can have a drink with strangers goes a long way to turning those strangers into true neighbors.

This week, the Chicago Reader ran an article about the thriving Chicago taco scene that included this intriguing passage:

"Albany Park, for example, and its neighboring north-side enclaves remain (for now) a safe place where the professional taquero can thrive in America. A case study: on a side street off one of the busier thoroughfares in this part of the city, there's a family who each weekend set up a tent along the sidewalk, sheltering a table and chairs, coolers, cold drinks, a salsa bar, and a gas-powered comal on which the patriarch of the clan griddles piles of hissing carne asada, al pastor, cesina, and chorizo con papas. The smell of warming corn tortillas and caramelizing meat casts a spell that's palpable for blocks. People who don't even live in the neighborhood drive their cars to this corner, line up under the tent, and wait patiently to place their orders with a teenager scribbling in a spiral-bound notebook."

Source: https://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/el-santo-taqueria-chicago-taco-authority-tomatillo-taco-ville/Content?oid=51422770

I would like to those tacos, but for obvious reasons, the exact corner wasn't disclosed in the article. Would someone who knows of this spot be kind enough to provide it here? I think that would be safe, as this site gets far less traffic than the Reader, but feel free to message me privately, if you think that would be more appropriate. Thanks in advance!

I tried the steak, barbacoa, and cecina tacos and I must admit the chopped steak wasn't all that great in my opinion but their barbacoa and cecina was phenomenal. I also spoke to the owner for a bit and it seems hes been at that tent for 2 years now and just recently opened up an interior restaurant up the street. But mentioned that the street set up actually brings in all his clientele as opposed to the actual restaurant.
Anyhow thanks to whoever brought this up. I'll definitely be continuing to visit this placle.

Hi All -
I am desperately trying to get this info out!

Last Tuesday (the 19th) around 1pm I witnessed what looked to be animal abuse in the area by (what I think) a dog walker. I love dogs, especially Golden Retrievers so this was definitely unsettling. As I look back, I definitely should have called 311 or atleast said something but did not want to cause any more issues.

This happened at the corner of Oakley & Addison. The (presumed) walker came down Oakley towards Addison, away from Waveland, at this point the dog laid down and the walker kicked it a few times. The dog then got up and they crossed over Oakley where the dog laid down again and the walker continued to kick the dog. They then walked down Oakley towards the school/Waveland.

I tried to follow them in hopes of seeing where the dog went to stop by later and inform the owner but unfortunately ran out of space/time and had to get to work.

If you know this dog or the owner, I strongly suggest showing them this video so this doesn’t happen again.

Okay moderator. I'll respectfully create a fake account so that I can go and bother people about real issues. How about this I'll trade you. Kick me off and kick that person off. Take the time take one minute and go back and read and you'll see that this is a fake profile. Go look at what else they post they're always bothering somebody. I can exit stage left from a forum. doesn't bother me. I'm too busy for this. I thought this was a very good resource for the community. Take it away Tim it's all yours.

Again, I'm sorry if my words bother you Christina. I'm trying to offer my opinions and suggestions and your words continue to be confusing and full of anger, and I'm not sure why. I think we have come to some good constructive conclusions on this forum.

Fence rules

I have a neighbor who has put up metal poles ( getting ready for a fence) above 6 feet easily, for the front yard..it already looks ugly...can't imagine how actual fence will look. Is this allowed? Also one pole is in part of our front yard..he did this without asking.

1)What are rules with fencing?
2) A contractor mentioned it was illegal and I should complain, who do I complain to?

No worries Maryann, I can handle it, I'm used to it for a long time

Tim, people attacking you in an open forum for speaking your mind is nothing you should ever get used to. You were not mean, condescending or off topic at any point. I'm sure you can handle it, but there will always be people like me out there that will not accept it. Have a great day!

I was wondering about flooding issues near Eugene Field Park - particularly the south side of the park. Do the homeowners there have a problem with flooding? Thanks.

I was walking my dog south on Troy and standing at the intersection of Belle Plaine and Troy when I heard what I thought was fireworks up the street. Soon after a sedan (I think dark green) came speeding down the street and flew through the 4 way intersection. A man was in the front seat and a young child in the back. A few seconds later a black sedan came speeding down the through the intersection in hot pursuit of the first car. A young (teenage I am estimating) boy was standing up in the back with this torso out of the sunroof shooting at the car ahead of them. I witnessed about 6+ shots fired. Both cars turned onto Irving Park from Troy. I called the police and gave them the pertinent details I was able to witness. I wanted to post this to encourage others to be safe and on alert for gun related activity in the neighborhood. I am upset I was not able to get the license plate.

Is it illegal to honk?

A dormant discussion that was shut down some time ago, when the question was asked: "Is it legal to honk when exiting an alley?" (original discussion in Zip Code 60641)

An answer to this question from the Chicago Police Department:

“Technically, the horn is meant … to prevent an accident. It’s not to be used at all times, 24 hours a day,” said Officer Michael Carroll, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Instead, drivers should pull up to the end of the alley and stop, Caroll said. Then they should pull up to the street, stop again and drive."

Why Do Chicagoans Honk In Alleys? Some Say It's The Law - But Police Beg To Differ
DOWNTOWN - It's a tradition as uniquely Chicago as hating ketchup on hot dog: honking your horn before driving out of an alley. An informal Block Club Chicago poll showed 64 percent of respondents honk their horns when exiting an alley.
