Neighborly Litigation (Chadha v. NPES)

Many on this forum talk about litigating, be it for some unneighborly thing or other. Well, here is your chance to read the behind the scenes workings of the Chicago Way in its entirety (link below - get some popcorn and settle in) and VOTE.

This is the culmination of 7 years of attorney fees and a waste of our taxpayer-funded court's time/resources, in my opinion, of course.

Kittyhop in Logan Square, I was standing at my rear kitchen window while on an important phone call, when I saw the perpetrator inside my truck. I yelled out as loud as I could and pounded on my window, which startled both the customer service representative and the a-hole in my truck. I ran out my backdoor towards my truck when he ran down the alley while clutching his, what looked like, a gun peering out of his shirt. I had left my vehicle unlocked (not any more), just to avoid damage to my vehicle in situations like this.

Carpet Cleaners

Hey there EB party people! I'm in need of a kickass carpet cleaning crew. Any recommendations out there? Thanks in advance!!

  • I love the work S and S carpet cleaning does regularly for my condo association. Call Sunny at 773-457-0555.

  • Andrew Levin Property Management Specialist

I use S & S Carpet Cleaning as well and recommend them 100 percent.

  • We just had our carpets cleaned this weekend. I forget the name of the gentleman that showed up but here is their website: www.newdawncarpetcleaning.com
They did an awesome job, we usually get our carpets cleaned before the holidays and this company did a better job than most we have hired in the past. Their prices are reasonable too. They also did our area rug.

Windy City Playhouse

Two years ago someone posted about seeing a play at Windy City Playhouse. I checked them out and decided to buy a seasons pass. Every play I see there is better than the last. The prices are cheaper than down town at Goodman ( also had seasons pass there ), the seats are roomy & comfortable with a little table for your cocktail, there is free parking right outside. You can eat at Leader Bar or Pitchfork and walk over to the play. The acting is superb. The plays are all awesome. I just saw "Becky Shaw" tonite and loved it. if your into live plays at smaller venues check this place out. All around a great night out.

  • Been there once a while back, thoroughly enjoyed the experience & acting. I should go back soon again!

  • Nick in Irving Park Condo Owner

Chris Jones (Tribune theater critic) wrote that with "Becky Shaw" the theater looked to be hitting its stride as a neighborhood playhouse. He pointed out that some of their productions were pretty dreary in terms of subject matter. I was not enthusiastic about many of their early productions, but I look forward to the shows they have scheduled. My wife and I are eager to go and I'll be purchasing tickets.

Broken car window

A day late asking .... came out at 6:30 am to find my car window on driver's side had been busted in. Nothing stolen (not that there was anything), just really irritating. Wondering if anyone else in area had same experience? Happened on Francisco between Belmont & Elston.

  • Was this Halloween night?

  • Yes, unfortunately. I have lived in Chicago for 15 years .... 2.5 in this neighborhood and have never had any issues.

  • It was a group of neighborhood teenage kids who busted car windows on multiple vehicles with a baseball bat on Halloween night. If anyone else had their windows busted in the Avondale neighborhood or by the Target on Addison near Sacramento park send me a private message and I’ll pass along the information I have.

When it rains the whole intersection , including 3 feet up the sidewalk (sloped) is a lake. Not a huge deal now, but in a month when it freezes , it's going to be a major hazard for walkers and drivers. • My basement never floods. This is not a low lying area . And I'm not taking heavy rains, just any rain. I'm pretty sure leaving a flooded intersection to freeze is not going to be a good thing. I called the alderman and they are going to check it out,so we'll see

Does anybody have a recommendation for a good GC or somebody who can repair/replace the framing around a window that is leaking? The window is on the rear part of our home, on what would have originally been the back stairwell that at some point was fully enclosed and extended the length of the home. I have no idea how old it is. The weird thing is that it has started to leak today, about three days after the rain stopped. Water seems to be dripping out from between the wood laminate wall covering and the frame. Not sure if it is coming through from the roof or what. Any names would be greatly appreciated!

On a side note I contacted one large company but they actually required all those named on the mortgage to be present in order to just give me a quote. I think I am capable of making a decision without my wife being present, as I know she would be as well. Not interested in a hard sell. Just a hard worker!

  • K in North Center longtime North Side resident

Potential Missing Dog on Cullom??

I saw a little white dog (little bit like a Maltese mix) without a collar at Cullom and Albany, I waited around to see if the owner was lurking somewhere but no. I tried to speak to him and approach him but he was a little timid. He walked on to Cullom & Kedzie and seemed to want to get into an apartment building where I let him in. It was 4257-59. When I walked back he wasn't in the common area, so hopefully he found his owner.

If no, I'd suggest going over to that building now.

Aggressive energy salesman

A guy was triple ringing the doorbell last night around 7pm Monday). He asked to review my people’s gas and comed bills. I opened the door and pointed at the sign above the doorbell that clearly stated no soliciting. His response was “what does that mean?” I told him I wasn’t interested. Then he seemed to be acting as if he was offended. Then he took an incoming call and remained on the porch. I told him to leave and he did so slowly. As he exited, he left the gate open. I then instructed him to resecure the gate, and did so while giving me a hard look. Based on demeanor alone, I wouldn’t give his employer a chance.

I have Exciting news from Kindergarten room 109… we’re ready to update our class with a new “Smart Board” (interactive whiteboard system)! This school year (and for years to come), I want to ensure that my students have what they need to succeed, so I've created a request on a 501(c)3 charity website called DonorsChoose.org.

I'm writing to ask for any donations possible for my students - no matter the size (seriously, every little bit counts).
If you can't donate anything now, no worries... just share this information with anyone who you know is passionate about education. Your donation will have a direct impact on at least 24 students this year and you'll hear back from our class about your impact!
Here’s my classroom request:
Go to this link https://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=2743674# or go to Donors Choose.org - Mrs. Daye. “Technologically Savvy in Kindergarten”
Please don’t forget to spread the word if you know anyone who may want to show their support for public schools. Please share our classroom page and contribute if you can!
Thank you again!

Many service calls can be resolved with out the need to send out a technician. I agree that it's extremely frustrating when the operator is just reading from the script but it wouldn't be cost effective to pay a technician to sit and answer phones.

I'm also a bit surprised that the changing the connector was all that was needed. While they can fail, it's not very common. Hopefully you didn't get charged for it.

Dog owners pick up their poop with a bag and drop into the cans in the alley. Usually the corner cans in the alley cans get the most poop. It's better to have dog owners comply with the law and properly pick up dog poop and dispose it in the cans in the alley than to just leave it there on the parkway. Living on a corner and dog poop landing in the cans behind your garage is just part of city living.

Last night around 9:10pm, I was traveling northbound on damen Ave. at the 4 way stop at Barry & damen, I proceeded to enter the intersection when it was my turn & I was hit by someone driving an old dingey white or light silver SUV with a darker front bumper. They were traveling wesbound. I don't know if they ever stopped for the stop sign. I saw them enter the intersection, coming right at me as I was midway through the intersection. We briefly made eye contact & there was no indication in that moment they cared about what was about to happen. My car became undriveable & I thought I saw this car pull over on the northbound side of Barry once they made it through the intersection but if they did, they quickly drove off. If anyone has any security cameras in that area or knows of any that could have captured this incident please advise. It's a busy intersection right, with Hamlin park being on the corner south/west corner. No one stoped to help. There were a group of kids that quickly dispersed after witnessing the accident & SUV speed off but they were unable to see the plates. They were confident it was a Chevy, possibly a suburban & that the driver was a woman with tattoos.

Thanks for any and all of your help,

There may have been two police helicopters around there to observe and harass the peaceful homeless living in tents at the new Uptown Tent City relocation plot of land south of Argyle along Sheridan. In the morning, the police forced the homeless out yet again and locked the fence, even though there was no complaining property owner as required by law. One activists was arrested. The police caused more noise than the homeless, so please focus your noise complaints on the police and NOT the homeless, who are having a hard time finding a place for their multiple tent encampment, since the city's displaced them and only offered them the dreaded, cult-like, and jail-like privately-funded Pacific Garden Mission shelter as an option. The homeless had this option when they originally moved to live in tents under the viaducts in Uptown and chose to live in their own tent shelter rather than be sheltered at Pacific Garden Mission. Pacific Garden Mission must be pretty bad if a tent in Chicago cold winters is seen as a better option than a large shelter.
