What's a bioswale? Can I help?

Bioswales are included in the bump-outs on Berteau. Plants that make up a bioswale, filter, absorb and slow stormwater on its way to the sewer. This helps prevent sewers from being overwhelmed and helps reduce neighborhood street, basement and vehicle flooding. To help learn how to maintain these bioswales, email Terry at motordc@aol.com. And if you see litter in a bioswale, please pick it up.

New restaurant?

Anyone know what’s going in to the former Dive Bar space on Halsted just south of Cornelia? Looks like they’re painting the outside in preparation for something.

  • Do we need another restaurant in the neighborhood.

  • I'm curious too, that was supposed to be the reopening of mEAT, but those signs have been down for over a year now. And, yes, we certainly need as much restaurant choice in this neighborhood as possilbe, anything is better than another closed building.

  • Li, if you think you know what the neighborhood needs, by all means....

go ahead and take the risk and open up your own business.

or, sit on the sidelines and take e-potshots at those who have the courage, conviction, stamina and work ethic to try.

I don't know where this started coming exactly from but I think it's that huge house that got built right on the NE corner of Montrose and Hermitage a few years ago. They frequently have parties with LOUD MUSIC, OUTDOORS, during the week (must be nice to not have to work or care about sleep, I guess) and I'm just tired of it. I've lived in this neighborhood for almost 15 years. I like living here because it is NOT like living on a street with loud bars. At least it was, until these inconsiderate neighbors! Way to come into a neighborhood and ruin it.

Maybe the music is coming from somewhere else but, I think that's the place. Huge party going on right now, only been getting louder since 9:30 when I got home. Going on 11:30 now, I'm wondering amidst the whoops and screams as I can hear people getting drunker and wilder, will I sleep tonight at all?

I've called for a noise complaint on them before. I don't want to do it again. I should not have to do this every time. Have some common sense and respect for other people. I also kind of suspect that, nothing will happen. I mean, if you are rich enough to get a lot rezoned just for your huge single family mansion that's somehow technically an LLC... maybe rules just don't apply to you? Politeness certainly doesn't, apparently.

I feel like a grandpa complaining about this but, to be honest, I'm like, ~1 block away, in my apartment, sweltering because I closed all my windows to try to block out noise, and when I called a friend this evening they said, "Wow, where are you? Out partying?" so, yeah. It's that loud. I cannot imagine what the poor houses RIGHT NEXT TO THEM, are going through.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Anyone else that needs to get to bed but can't sleep through this racket want to commiserate?

I heard really loud music on a rainy night a couple of weeks ago, but I'm near Cullom and Hermitage and thought it was coming from the east or slightly southeast of my house. I took a walk around the neighborhood and still couldn't figure out the source. I didn't go as far as Lakeview High but thought it might have been music from prom night.

Architectural Artifacts in the middle of the 4300 block on the east side of Ravenswood often had loud events in the past but they have become more responsive to noise complaints and seem to have reduced the noise volume. I didn't hear anything last night but I was out. You could certainly call 911 if you can reasonably identify the source.

Horrible outdoors karakoe!!!

I usually really enjoy the live music that the festivals bring right outside of my window on Sheffield. But this year outdoor KARAKOE with the worst singers ever blasted on loudspeakers!! How is this not noise pollution and illegal?!? I’m about to go buy an air horn and just start blowing it out of my window u til they stop!!

  • Whoa, what did those trains ever do to you?! Two things-
    1. Karaoke is and will ALWAYS be spelled like KARAOKE.
    2. Im a lifetime lincoln parker. Wrightwood and lincoln ave baby.

  • Would you be OK with it if they could carry a tune and keep up with song lyrics? If it's a regular thing you can call the Debbie Downers at ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC who will enthusiastically shake them down for licensing fees. That shuts down many karaoke nights around the city.
