The neon-lit bar at Lawrence and Broadway, now a legendary jazz club, has been around for 107 years—and has more stories than any tavern in town. Here are a few from the past three decades.

Chicago rock vet Thomas Comerford's new album Blood Moon was worth the four-year wait
Thomas Comerford is a devoted student of rock music who takes his own contributions to the form as seriously as its rich history. He operates with meticulous detail and patience, which might explain why it's been four years since his last release, the 2014 album II.

These benches are intended for the parkway or other public spaces to encourage walking and offer people a place to rest as they go around the neighborhood.

Our goal is to build 15 benches. If you would like to help build the benches please come to the work group Sunday May 20th at Waters School. All ages and abilities are welcome. You can rsvp to info@forwardchicago.org or call 773-633-8312. Please come support this project - thank you!

New restaurant?

Anyone know what’s going in to the former Dive Bar space on Halsted just south of Cornelia? Looks like they’re painting the outside in preparation for something.

  • Do we need another restaurant in the neighborhood.

  • I'm curious too, that was supposed to be the reopening of mEAT, but those signs have been down for over a year now. And, yes, we certainly need as much restaurant choice in this neighborhood as possilbe, anything is better than another closed building.

  • Li, if you think you know what the neighborhood needs, by all means....

go ahead and take the risk and open up your own business.

or, sit on the sidelines and take e-potshots at those who have the courage, conviction, stamina and work ethic to try.

What terrifies me are not things that you can use common sense to protect yourself by, but what you cannot. Middle of the night break ins through AC units assaulting kids in Lincoln park. Assaults in Lakeview at 8:30 pm on a busy Saturday evening, getting robbed in Lakeview at gunpoint between 2 days cares at 2:30 pm in the afternoon. Its by far way worse than normal city life. Horrific.

Swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser makes covering broad terrain seem easy when it’s anything but

Wed 6/13, 9 PM, Hungry Brain, 2319 W. Belmont, $10

Swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser makes covering broad terrain seem easy when it's anything but
Swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser lets his curiosity and versatility flow from project to project, whether he's recontextualizing baroque music by Monteverdi and Machaut in an improvisational context or exploring the chamberlike dynamic of reedist Jimmy Giuffre's early 60s trio with Steve Swallow and Paul Bley.

Horrible outdoors karakoe!!!

I usually really enjoy the live music that the festivals bring right outside of my window on Sheffield. But this year outdoor KARAKOE with the worst singers ever blasted on loudspeakers!! How is this not noise pollution and illegal?!? I’m about to go buy an air horn and just start blowing it out of my window u til they stop!!

  • Whoa, what did those trains ever do to you?! Two things-
    1. Karaoke is and will ALWAYS be spelled like KARAOKE.
    2. Im a lifetime lincoln parker. Wrightwood and lincoln ave baby.

  • Would you be OK with it if they could carry a tune and keep up with song lyrics? If it's a regular thing you can call the Debbie Downers at ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC who will enthusiastically shake them down for licensing fees. That shuts down many karaoke nights around the city.

Whew! Wonderful news! Happened with my Siamese 'Karma' . I would take and monitor him only in our backyard. 🐈 cat's are trainable and he knew he was not allowed beyond fence. For years this was flawless. I would check on him every 20 minutes and then one day I dozed off for about four hours. Immediately I went to bring him in and he was nowhere to be found. For four agonizing days he had either been on a feline field trip, or somehow accidentally locked up in a shed or garage. Be sure to block that access so she stays out of there. Cat's are wonderful!

Hi, would anyone know what the Salvation Army stores discounts are on Fridays? I thought the sign said after 6 pm 75% off everything. Please advise.

  • I don't have access to FB.

  • I was told that on Sat. - everything that has the 1/2 price color tag is 69 cents. if they have 4 color tags - it is the one that is the oldest and has not sold - at least this was the method the Salvation Army store that was on Broadway near Montrose used...Happy Shopping....
