2 young men are pretending to be utilities.

My roommate opened the door on Sacramento 2600 block and 2 young men said they worked for gas and electric and we were not receiving mail. First off- those are separate companies running those utilities, so they wouldn’t be representing them together. Secondly without invite/ credentials/ proper outfit they attempted to walk into our apartment. Don’t know what this would have turned into if they got trough, but keep a heads up.

  • VictorPaul Logan Square Resident

Don't let them in! I bet it's the same guys by me. I Got called by tenants where i work that these guys kept knocking on there door and wouldn't leave. When I got up to the guy and asked him to leave he took a swing at me .

I'd add a picture of them But not sure how

  • One 20 something man came to our door on N. Mildred. Said he was from an energy company and we were being overbilled. He wanted to look around... My neighbor and I couldn't figure out what he wanted and were pretty confident that, at the very least, this was a scam. It's tempting to just buzz people into our building's front door because of all the packages that arrive throughout the holidays. This was a good heads-up.

Morning Commute Feeling More Crowded? Blue Line Sees Explosive Growth, Data Show

New residents are simply taking the train more, and developers are taking notice, including Enrico Plati, the developer behind The Savoy, a 138-unit “micro-apartment” project being built at 2342-48 North California Avenue.

Tribune: "The CTA's decision to shelve the all center-facing seats on the 7000 Series car order was reached after conducting a customer survey that solicited opinions about seating preferences as well as observations by CTA officials of rider behavior, CTA spokesman Brian Steele said.

Factors included rider comfort for both sitting and standing passengers; whether seats in the closely spaced center-seating format were being used efficiently or left empty; the ease and speed of passengers entering and exiting the cars; and the length of time a train stood at a station, officials said."

Victory Grill?

Hi all. Does anyone have an update on the proposed diner at the old Cafeteria Marianao at 2246 N Milwaukee Avenue? The article mentioned opening "late 2017 or early 2018," but haven't seen much progress. We're fans of Cozy Corner, but they're not open for dinner and this has the potential of becoming a great local option. Thanks!

Looking to rent a garage in Logan Square

Hello,

I live on the 2500 block of Mozart Ave in Logan Square. I am looking to rent an entire garage somewhere near my home. The garage would be used for Storage of my work tools and supplies. I would be in and out of the garage typically once a day.

Please let me know if you are interested in renting your garage.

Regards,

Topher

  • Not a good idea to store valuable tools or bikes in a garage around here. If anything is stolen, would you expect the homeowners insurance to cover it?

  • I looked into that for my garage and possible rental; my ins. would not cover that. (Allstate)

  • Gil Jimenez Private Investigator; IL concealed carry trainer

Allstate tells me they do not cover tools. Furthermore, you should check with your insurance company to determine what they will cover when your property is stolen from someone else's garage.

Dear City Newbies, Please Pick Up Your Dog Poop!

Some guy today let his dog poop on the sidewalk and casually walked away like it was nothing. I happened upon this scene and it was quite amazing. He really thought it was unnecessary to pick up after his dog.

He's 30ish, short blondish brown hair with a new small black puppy. He;s got a wild eyed stare that looks like he might have moved here from some podunk town in East Texas. I'd post a pic but that probably would be against the rules here plus I don't carry a phone with me. I'm amazed at the arrogance thinking it's OK to let dog poop sit on the sidewalk. This might work in his farm country but don't they teach any manners there? End of rant. Still kind of pissed. This happened on Shakespeare just west of Hoyne.

BTW: If there was a Patrol Dogs Club that poop and all others would get picked up by the next dog walker.

  • Dear Mr. RAKARWOWSKI, Thou doth protest too much, methinks.

My use of East Texas was an obtuse reference to my true observation that he looked and acted like an alt-right young Republican Evangeiist -- the kind I used to know in college. Nowadays they have become more embolden. He probably thought my neighbor who has lived here forever was an immigrant of some sort. That's the vibe I got and that's why I made this post.

  • RAKARWOWSKI RETIRED CITY WORKER, CLEANING UP HUMBOLDT PARK

I don't protest, this is EB and I enjoy my freedom of speech they allow me when I read things like you posted and see nothing a little bad in what you posted. Again, I could be wrong but that is what I got out of those statements. Have a nice day.

Regardless of your party affiliation, the ward map has to infuriate you. It is nothing more than a raised middle finger from incumbent politicians to the voter. The message is clear: they're in control, not you. Most Chicagoans could describe many neighborhood boundaries. None could describe a single ward's.

I completely agree that political gerrymandering should never be the reason for determining district boundaries, and as a former neighborhood association president in Streeterville, I actually opposed creation of the ward that I now have the privilege to represent in the City Council. I support redistricting reform, to prevent something like this from happening again. I am the only currently serving alderman to sign on as a supporter of the independent map amendment. And while I lived in in the eastern-most section of the 2nd Ward at the time of my election, I now live in the western-most section. Despite the challenges associated with the unusual geographic shape, I understand my ward and the diverse population within its various neighborhoods. My ward office staff does an excellent job serving ALL 2nd Ward residents, regardless of their address. http://www.mapamendment.org/SUPPORTERS.html

Good morning. Just a public service announcement for the neighborhood. I started my car (mid-2000s Lexus SUV) that was parked on the 2600 of West Medill on Thursday (11/30) morning. I heard a large rumble when starting and checked underneath car to see that the catalytic converter was cut out. My neighbor was nice enough to share the video from his security camera that shows 2 people exiting a 4-door car (Infiniti?) with a moonroof at 4:38am. I know that they cut them out quick, but it looks like it might have been done beforehand and then picked up as they were at the car for less than 10 seconds. When I filed the police report, the officer said there had been several others reported in last few days. With the rising prices for the precious metals inside them, it sounds like there might be more to come.

Here is a DNAinfo on the topic from a few months ago.
https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20170925/lincoln-park/catalytic-converter-thefts-stolen

Catalytic Converters Stolen From Lincoln Park Cars
CHICAGO - Thieves are stealing catalytic converters from cars in Lincoln Park, police said. The thieves cut off the catalytic converters and are apparently targeting Lexus and Honda cars, according to a Chicago Police community alert. The thefts occurred: * Between the evening of Aug. 7 and early morning of Aug.

  • Sal, hopefully we're both good from here on in with the aftermarket converters. Knock on wood, it's been 3 years now since my theft and still parking on the street with no second thefts. Good luck to both of us and everyone else. Wish the justice system would throw the book at these guys when caught instead of slapping them on the wrists!

  • It's illegal to sell them here, but not in Indiana. What we need is a federal law to make it illegal to sell them anywhere unless they're attached to a car.

The offenders were three black males, two armed with handguns, who pulled up to the hijacked vehicle in a Silver 2014 Chevy Equinox. The Equinox used in this carjacking was reported to have been also previously carjacked in Broadview, Illinois by two black males who were reported to be armed and dangerous.

From the City of Chicago crime map, I was able to find reports of two carjackings in this part of Bucktown over the last 12 months:

Broadcastify only offers the general CPD stream, which scans traffic in the 13 zones and often does not capture important dispatches in specific zones. Broadcastify will also often play recordings from earlier dispatches even while indicating that the scanner is live and current.

Bucktown is in District 14 which is in Zone 3. If you listen to the Zone 3 stream on crimeisdown.com, you will hear all the dispatches and police officer replies as they are occurring.

I will often have the scanner playing in the background as I work and I am now used to listening to three or four zones simultaneously. Even though dispatches are almost constant and there is overlap in dispatches from the zones, it is possible to monitor large areas of the city in this way.

CPD and the City of Chicago only release information about crimes and post details on their crime maps 7 days after each incident. Many other major cities post information within 24 hours.

If someone is not learning about Chicago crime incidents through scanner broadcasts, there can be criminals targeting specific areas for repeat robberies and burglaries within a 7 day period and people will be vulnerable and unaware in those areas. I have noticed that robberies especially can suddenly become a problem in a neighborhood or block that was otherwise safe for months previously.

I will continue to post details of major incidents that suggest that there is an active, ongoing threat with suspects at large. The CPD is doing a great job of catching some robbers and robberies and assaults are sometimes related to criminal activity such as drug dealing. I am not posting those incidents because they do not create a heightened danger for most citizens.

Peoole should get lighter sentences for surrendering. Be a good incentive to catch more criminals

  • i'm sure it is taken into consideration by the judge but by no means should not be a given. Most that surrender are doing so because they expect to be caught. I doubt if the images of this guy didn't exist he would still turn himself in

  • The lightest sentence comes from not committing a crime in the first place and that's not enough of a deterrent, so.... no.
