Fireball seen in sky over I-290 and Western Avenue

Did anyone else see a fireball at 7:10pm on Tuesday night? I saw it land near houses on the north side of I-290 and Western Avenue. I thought I was going crazy until I saw the new report of a meteor sighting in MIchigan. I am wondering if this was a piece broken off from this meteor and I am also curious if it hit anything.

Advice for Subletting an Apartment

A family friend needs to sublet his 1 bedroom apartment in River West Noble Square area. Besides Craig'slist, which he is using, and a broker, which he cannot afford, any other suggestions are much appreciated.
Thank you.

  • Andrew Carpenter Realtor Edgewater home owner and Chicago Reator

DOMU seems to have a decent amount of advertising.
Hot Pads and Pad Mapper may also have a decent amount of tenants searching them.
I also recommend that they post it on their facebook and ask their friends to share it.
Obviously my experience with these is minimal. I stick to the MLS.

  • Thank you for the advice. I heard of Zillow and Hot Pads but not Pad Mapper. I thought that DOMU was a landlord's resource. Good to know it is more. I passed it on to the friend. Thank you again.

39,000 homicides: Retracing 60 years of murder in Chicago
The spike in violent crime that has plagued Chicago since 2016 has even more gravity when viewed in comparison with six decades of homicides in Chicago. Since 1957, the city has had homicide totals of 700 or more nearly half the time, 27 of 60 years, and has been lower than 500 a third of the time, 19 of 60 years.

I don't think this is entirely true. While we are all responsible for our individual actions all things being equal, we aren't making those decisions in a vacuum.

When government policies are in effect that encourages certain behaviors or does not adequately punish certain behavior, then I think the government policies are also at fault in some proportional value.

IE. If violent offenders don't believe they will be held accountable for their actions (either low risk of being caught or low level of sanctions), there is less disincentive to take certain actions. Thus the potential benefits could outweigh the potential risks even in a rational equation.

Put another way... if robbing a passerby of their paycheck will net me $1000 and there is a 5% risk of being caight or adequately punished, a subset of the population will take that risk.

If there is a 50% chance of being caught (or shot in self defense) and a 100% chance of being incarcerated if caught, even a hardened criminal might not take the action.

    Just my humble opinion...

  • Mute Truth is not determined by majority vote

Yes i get it but a certain type of person who only refrains from commiting a crime like murder in the first place because of laws has alot more to do with things outside of our leaders control.
