change in water temp and pressure

Anyone else notice a significant change in water shower temp and pressure? I haven't changed the water heating setting but noticed that it's taking much longer for the water to heat up and the pressure is not as strong.

I noticed a lot of sewer projects in the area over the past few months and wonder if that's the cause. I live near Sayre school.

Cats Could Be Left Behind

An elderly neighbor is moving and can only take two cats with her. She has indoor and outdoor cats. (I do not let cats outdoors. I do not approve of letting your cat leave the house. This is about someone that is not me.) I am not sure of the actual number of cats she might be forced to leave behind. Some are "patio cats". She asked me to find help for her to relocate/rehome/rescue (basically save her cats from being abandoned) the cats.

Anyone know what can be done in this situation? I know about the pet population situation and how everywhere is overcrowded and underfunded. I just can't stand the thought of what is going to happen to the cats she leaves behind.

  • I always said mankind can be a horrible animal. No I take that back, animals don't even act so cruel as some people in this world do, but people like you make it a better place. Hang in there and try to get some help.

Update, better news. The neighbor who "walked me down the alley" drove up while I was in the yard today. I was expecting an earful and he said he thought of a solution and asked that I only leave the food out during the daytime hours (around noon) and not after dark. I am happy for the turnaround but I am already concerned about the two days he had me and the cats off schedule and frightened. There is one big cat in particular that I am concerned about finding again, the one he frightened off when he confronted me. I also wonder what happened to make him change his mind, if he saw the poor cats hungry and looking for food.
Aside from this I don't think he was the only one throwing my food in the trash. I believe the landlord, where the (original "owner") elderly woman moved away from, has decided he doesn't want the cats near his property. As I say to others who try to help, I will try to keep fighting the good fight.

Advice Please

I went to a mechanic (won't name them yet) and on the receipt the part was marked with a one in the hundreds column and then a two written over it. I was charged $215 for the part. AutoZone, O'Reilly's, and Maverick's all had it cheaper, for about $126. I went back to the shop and questioned the employee behind the counter. He acted as if I was from another planet. I brought the printouts from the auto stores to show him the price and he said he didn't know what that was. He claimed to buy parts from a reliable distributor and then I saw a Maverick's receipt right next to him. Should I take this to the BBB?

I would try to reach the owner. We use a mechanic who will install parts that we purchase

Exterior back flow valve installment to prevent water in the basement

We are thinking of moving out of state and want to rent out our single family house.
Before that I want to install an exterior back flow valve because we sometimes have water coming out mainly of the shower drain during heavy rains. Not lately after disconecting part of the gutters and letting them drain in the alley but since we will be faraway I want to avoid a flooded basement for both us and the renter. It is my nightmare.
Has anybody done this lately? What was the cost and can you please recomend who did it?
Thanks in advance

There is a heated discussion going on on nextdoor about the development at Belmont and Narragansett. The posts are asking Alderman Villegas about the status of that development which by the way there was a meeting over a year ago about a high end apt and retail development to be built there that til this day sits vacant. The alderman claims that "his office is working with the owner get that meeting scheduled and that the date will be forthcoming"

In one response the person made mention of Alderman Villegas being at Sutherlands bar and one of the owners had told him that Villegas told the owner that a affordable senior housing building was a "done deal". In another post someone said that they spoke to Mr Aliferakis who is part owner of Akton realty and he said that the plans have changed and that the existing building on that corner was going to be rehabbed instead. This alderman ran his campain on being transparent obviously thats not the case.

  • Agnes Groeper Major of Major

The new Senior Housing is going up where Bank of America was on Diversey and Central, I think Villegas missed his chance by dragging his feet.

  • Thats not his ward and don't think that he is dragging his feet I'm sure he has plans for Belmont and Narragansett. He is dragging his feet when it comes to letting everyone know what is really going on there. The comment that was made on next-door about him saying that it's (a done deal) for affordable housing at that corner is very concerning

Dog Lost/Spotted

An older dog was on Major and Belden, very thin, light brown and black, male, collar and no tags. He must be missing for a few days because he was drinking sludge water in the alley. I tried to get clean water for him but he took off. He was at the McDonalds on Fullerton and Central when I lost track of him.

  • Helpful, thank you for trying to help this neglected dog.Maybe put some food in your car in case you see him again.Probably the owner dumped him to the cruel streets which is very inhumane instead of bring him to a shelter. If caught bring him to 16th district. They are very good at helping stays and lost pets.Good luck, I'm sure it's breaking your heart in seeing this poor guy struggling to survive.

  • Thank you so much for trying to help him. It would be good to have some food handy if you see him again. Here's hoping he will come to you.

GERMAN SHEPHERD Lost/Found/Lost

German Shepherd with collar and tag was running IN the STREET on Fullerton Ave, dodging cars. A concerned family tried to catch it. It ran down Major and further down on the side streets. There was a police officer trying to assist, two or three people, and Animal Care and Control was called. At the point where too many people were around the dog darted off. Last sighted on Mango and Belden. If you lost a German Shepherd please check with Anti Cruelty and Animal Care and Control, also flyer the area near Fullerton and Central, Belden, Major, Parkside, Mango, and so on. Dog did seem to be timid and afraid.

  • No comments on this one. I actually saw the dog again today, only because now it was at my yard with our dog. The dog is a girl and belongs to one of my neighbors. Still it managed to be dodging cars on Fullerton avenue last week. Thank God it is still alive and managed to get home, last time. Who knows about next time.

No Idea Where To Start

Saw my neighbor taking a picture of the inside of my bird feeder today. He has started standing on our front porch and clapping loudly because he doesn't like pigeons on his own property. Maybe I should take a picture of him on my porch clapping. The pigeons don't fit in the feeder. They eat spilled food off the ground. This is the same person who sweeps his rain water up against our garage from his parking pad. The feeder...

The feeder is in the tree off of our yard, not on his parkway.
There are other people on this block who objected to me feeding the stray cat/cats. I stopped leaving the food out at night and was only feeding when the cat was out. Now the cats stopped coming around but the rats are still freaking here because of all the filthy garbage the neighbors throw about the alley outside of the cans.
News people, bird cr*p washes away, and cats eat cat food, rats eat garbage!

Sorry to anyone offended by my views on here, but I seriously cannot comprehend the stupidity of people at times and I really needed to put my thoughts out there somewhere.

  • Thanks for all the comments. Rats will eat cat food, but not if a cat is sitting there eating. Also I have a bird feeder, not a pigeon feeder per se. I am just an animal person who doesn't feel like stray cats (that some neighbors have caused and abandoned) and other birds should be starved for the sake of rats and pigeons.

I always appreciate the turns in these topics even when I don't agree with everything said.

  • There is a Facebook.page called Chicago Community cats that will.be able to give you info about registering a cat colony under the Cook.County TNR rules.once they are registered you are protected if your neighbors complain..if you cant get on.FB you can email.tnr@treehouseanimals.org. .thanks for caring about animals!!
