Please help stop a nightclub from opening on North Avenue: Meeting is Thursday, 2/4, 6:30 PM

Unfortunately, someone wants to open a nightclub on North Avenue again. Please help stop it by showing your opposition at a community meeting on Thursday, 2/4, 6:30 PM, at Amundsen Park field house, 6200 W Bloomingdale in Chicago.

Unfortunately, someone wants to open a nightclub on North Avenue again. Please help stop it by showing your opposition at a community meeting on Thursday, 2/4, 6:30 PM, at Amundsen Park field house, 6200 W Bloomingdale in Chicago.

Here's the story:

Omar Bryant, operator of unlicensed nightclub Urban Myth, now wants to open a BYOB restaurant above the basement club at the corner of North and Moody in Chicago. Ordinarily, we'd love to see a new restaurant open there. But we have no doubt he's going to use this space as a nightclub.

Bryant has shown himself to be a bad actor who considers himself to be above the law. He has continued to hold parties at Urban Myth, despite a cease-and-desist order. (This club has been a major neighborhood nuisance due to loud music until the wee hours of the morning, trash, and patrons taking up all the parking on residential streets, among other issues.) And when 29th Ward Alderman Chris Taliaferro shut down the block party Bryant held without a permit, he just moved it to another block!

Bryant forced a daycare center out of the space where he wants to put his restaurant. (After last year's flooding he refused to clean and repair the basement. Regulators warned the daycare center that they could not remain open with the children exposed to mold and other toxins.)

Just as we've opposed pawnshops and nightclubs (Behind Close Doors and 6978 Restaurant) before, it's time to do so again!

Please come to the meeting if you can

The Chicago Department of Transportation will open the 2016 Shared Cost Sidewalk Program on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Applications will only be accepted through the City’s 311 System by calling 311 or through the City’s service request website, http://www.cityofchicago.org/311.

The Shared Cost Sidewalk Program is an extremely popular voluntary program in which property owners share the cost of sidewalk repair with the City. Thousands of Chicagoans have been a part of this popular program, taking advantage of the low cost, exceptional value, and ease of participation. The Shared Cost Sidewalk Program cost per square foot charged to property owners is well below what a private contractor would charge. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities may qualify for a further discounted rate.

Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of participants is based on availability of funds. The program typically reaches capacity within 24 hours, so you are encouraged to apply early. Last year, over 1,900 requests were received within the first 12 hours. Please note that if you applied for the program in previous years, you must apply again in 2016 if you wish to be considered for the 2016 program.
