Really!! "speeding down side streets" Really!!

Im fed up with the speeders that run thru 3100 n kenneth! Why!? I observe these speeders all day long. It never disaponits me to see the little tunners with nicer wheels then the actual cars, oh wait they also have better exhaust and sound systems. I guess thats the new fab! Anyway... Thats my consern. My consern is that i have kids and see kids playing in our front lawns and im scared of these cars that come flying down the street. Is it possible to place speed bumps or anyother means to slow these cars down!? Any suggestions on how to approch this issue?

  • Kelly Dunning

Contact your alderman and explain the situation. Good luck!

  • Norma Bolante married , 6 grown sons and daughters,3 dogs,6 hens

Ask about getting some speed bumps ask your alderman maybe he can give you some good ideas... but we have speed bumps here and same thing happens except the idiots lose control of their car and hit the parked cars. Why and got it almost totaled it because it was an older car. But you still need to train your children to protect themselves by not running into the street sometimes that's all you can do to protect yourself and your family

Just Curious

Car on fire last night on Wrightwood just west of Rutherford. CFD and CPD handled quickly and efficiently. Just wondered if anyone knows cause. Glad nobody was hurt.

Boom cars

I recently moved to the neighborhood from Portage Park. The first thing I really noticed was the high level of boom cars. (Boom cars: cars with excessively loud bass that rattles windows) I guess I just have to get used to it. Does anyone else notice this or bothered by this issue?

  • We shouldn't get used to it. I think we need to push for our aldermen to introduce at the least a noise pollution bill for boom cars. They are a safety hazard for children in those cars and pose a dangerous risk to 1st responders siren alerts.

  • I believe the noise ordinance is already in place to deal with this nuisance. Getting it enforced is the challenge. Like everything else, most violations are only addressed with a call to 911.

  • Should have stayed in Portage Park.
    Welcome to the getto !!!

Plumber recommendation

Hello Galewood! I'm looking for plumber recommendations. Also any that should be avoided. Thank you in advance!

  • Thank you for the recommendation. They did all my little plumbing projects. It was less than I expected and they actually were able to come a day earlier then scheduled.

  • Glad it worked out.

Found dog, young female poodle mix

This dog was found in the vicinity of Nagle and Wellington. We got her cleaned up and fed, but couldn't keep her. She's not chipped, and now is with Aminal Care and Control.

Driving past Irving Park and Central yesterday, I see Amigo Chino has (finally) reopened. I've seen EB posts in the past, wondering when they would be back in business.

Common Sense has Disappeared Again

Am a Chicago resident living in the Montclare neighborhood. Placed an online order for an adult ($20) and a senior ($14) general admission plus $5 each for admission to Van Gogh's Bedrooms special exhibit which my son and I are anxious to see. $44 right?

Completed the transaction and received confirmation $48. Jotted a polite quick note requesting the overcharge ($4) be credited to the card on which I charged. Hey - $4 is $4.

Completed the transaction and received confirmation $48. Jotted a polite quick note requesting the overcharge ($4) be credited to the card on which I charged. Hey - $4 is $4.

Note comes back informing me 60707 is Elmwood Park and that means my fee is $2 more because I am not within city limits as recognized by their ticketing machine so only one discount was recognized (senior).

Ok - now this isn't about $4 as much as it is about principle and fairness.

I voluntarily explain I live in Chicago and scan my drivers license as proof of residency, again requesting that the overcharge be credited to my card.

Patrick at Member Services sends me a FAQ and an illustration of their charges, stating there are different discounts for Chicago residents and Illinois residents and if I should feel free to contact them with any other questions and enjoy my upcoming visit to the museum.

My head exploded. Wrote yet another email requesting Patrick's supervisor's name and number.

A generic response came stating that 'due to a high volume of interest there will be a delay in answering your request but we will be in touch as soon as possible".

Guess they were too busy today, too. Guess I'll be making a phone call tomorrow.

Unbelievable.

Distinctive Charter Schools (West Belden Campus located at 2245 N McVicker Ave) recently announced year round school for the 2017-2018 school years. We Parents Against Year Round Schools ask that Distinctive Charter Schools consider postponing a decision on this matter so that all concerned parties may have the opportunity to be properly heard. Any proposed significant school calendar changes should be addressed with the utmost care and with full inclusion of the parents to be effected throughout the process. As far as we know, there was never any official communication to the effected parents providing notice that this important issue was to be heard and determined by the Distinctive Schools. All of the parents with whom we have spoken only heard about this matter through a letter sent home with students last week. When asked the school who decided we were informed that a survey was offered last year at parents-teachers conference. Survey was located in a table but not distributed properly to all parents coming to teachers-parents conference. Only a hand full were selected and given the opportunity to give their opinion. The process being utilized to address this matter does not seem to constitute fair notice and opportunity to be heard. This petition represents parents, community members and society members opposing to year round schools.
Please sign and share with other parents, family, community and society members. Also LIKE us on Facebook to stay informed! ‪If your children attending another charter school today is Distinctive Schools and tomorrow could be your children school. #‎ParentsAgainstYearRoundSchools‬

If you're really that interested in an opposing view point, I would recommend Malcolm Gladwells "Outliers." Besides his own analysis, he cites to multiple research in various disciplines that you might find helpful (including research on our own nation's issues with education gaps tied to the summer vacation problem as I alluded to earlier as well as tracking and analyzing the successes in other countries that have year-round schooling).

Obviously, this is just a starting point to find additional studies and sources but I don't think you're really looking for citations from me ( and, frankly, I think it's up to you to seek out alternative information if you're really that interested in seeking out opposing viewpoints).

  • So what is the different from CPS and Charter Schools as stated before. Wood not the rules be the same for both and even for private schools.

Trouble with Everyblock App

Does anyone else have trouble using everyblock on there phone? I have the app installed but it sucks. Always gives me an error message when i try posting anything and my feed is just a long list of permits that were applied for and stupid stuff like that, and then at the bottom will be posts by neighbors but most times the app crashes before i can scroll down there.

  • Nextdoor is a wayyyyyyyyy better design and works great.

  • I think you can change your settings so certain categories won't show up in the timeline for you.
