50 Year Old Man Shot in the Back as he walked away from an argument

On the Northwest Side, a 50-year-old man was shot IN THE BACK in a domestic argument in the Belmont Central neighborhood, police said. He was arguing with someone he knew around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2018 when the person shot him as he walked away in the 2600 block of North Major Avenue (near Schubert Ave).

This was just 6 doors down from my mom's house!

The victim was stabilized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The shooter is under arrest.

This inspired me to write this little prayer and create these signs (PDFs) in English and Spanish for others to print and tape to each of the Light Poles on their block. (Get creative, use bright yellow paper or laminate them for endurance.) Put them in your front windows and on your rear (driver side) car door windows...

Maybe if our neighbors read these over-and-over again - one or two of them will take pause before the senseless harm or death to another?

Do it or not - it's up to you.

I am not anti-gun.
I am anti-stupidity.
I am against the foolish use of lethal force when it is not called for - like when your life is NOT threatened.
Verbal or domestic arguments should NEVER be resolved by gunfire!

Please pass this on to all you love!
Thanks for your help!

  • Padre ,

Very nice. Unfortunately those who would choose lethal force would never pay any attention to this on light post.
This would be nice to hear from the pulpit , in a preshift meeting before starting work, on a tee shirt. On the wall in a barber shop, Starbucks or dunkin donuts. Or a bench on the street waiting for the bus.
Even on the wall of a funeral home. On the expressway billboards.

  • Father Greg God knows what you did...

What would it cost to publish in places like you said? Pennies? We OURSELVES must stop the insanity of violence NOW! Can we rely upon our elected and appointed officials?

What would it cost to publish in places like you said? Pennies? We OURSELVES must stop the insanity of violence NOW! Can we rely upon our elected and appointed officials?
History says NO. Can we rely on our churches to make declarations? History says NO.

Sadly, the only church "smart enough" to avoid entanglement with the government is the Roman Catholics, a private "corporation sole". All other churches have been lured, by their boards of directors, into filing and acting "under the government" and not maintaining their true constitutional right for separation "from government".

I’m not saying the Roman church is the "right way", I don't think they are, I’m saying other churches that ELECT under IRS 501 code are doing the wrong way. That’s because once a parish declares itself a NFP corp. under the IRS - they are FORBIDDEN to make any statement from the pulpit which may be seen as political, even for the benefit of their flock.

If you don't believe - just look to pastor Pfleger of St. Sabina's Church on the south side of Chicago. The gov/IRS cannot stop or threaten him or his church - Why? Because they are outside civil law and act under "God's law" while protected by our constitution. Even Jesse Jackson, Sr. is now BEHIND Pfleger - he knows, as Roman Catholic pastor, is unstoppable.

I’m sure I’m going to take some push-back for saying all this - but the law was established 242 years ago to insure that this would remain true today. We must all become smarter and think for ourselves - allow the rule of law that was originally enshrined in our constitution to prevail.

Finally, back to our government and pastors/churches failing us to put educational pressure on society to stop unwarranted lethal violence as a solution to personal, domestic, or economic conflict - until every church is free to say what it needs to say - we will all be damned to the culture of violence that bubbles up from the frustration of those not taught to believe that EVERY life has value

I have been dealing with this for over a year. The water department came out after having a plumber do the inspection with them and they "fixed the problem on the street". Fast forward to rain season again this year and I'm getting water in the basement again. Had to pay again, inspection, agreed it's on their end, it's been two weeks and they haven't returned to do the work yet. In the meantime I have water in my basement, the worst amount I have gotten yet, for 4 days now and it won't drain out. Today finally it's gone down to half but it also started raining again afraid it's going to go right back up. This turned off my water boiler and we have been showing with cold water for 4 days and can't get the water boiler back on. Who is going to pay for all of this water damage to my basement?

Hello,

It deeply saddens to me to notify everyone that on Sunday June 17 a number of swastika, white nationalist, anti refugee, and generally hateful stickers with razor blades hidden underneath were found at and around Kilbourn Park.

Majority of these were removed by community members and myself in the presence of police officers. Over TEN razor blades were located under the stickers, so that should anyone attempt to remove these stickers, the potential for harm was present. These were within the playground perimeter as well.

Police have asked that if more stickers of this nature are found to please call Area North headquarters at (312) 744-8263 with the location of the stickers and state that you are calling to report more stickers of a hateful nature to add to the already existing report from Kilbourn park on 6/17/18.

At this time they requested that they not be removed so that an officer may come evidence the sticker and potentially collect prints.

Currently, there are still stickers within the park that have not been removed and I intend to call the authorities today to inquire why they have not been taken down. Additionally, municipal stop signs at Kenneth and Roscoe still have stickers as well as a pedestrian yield sign at 3342 Kostner.

Thank you for your attention and awareness of this event.

Rest In Peace

For the cat I called Buddy who was TNRd and then abandoned by his "caretaker" I want to tell people that you will be missed and you were loved.

I was feeding him and the other abandoned cats that were left behind. On Saturday some neighbors told me different versions of the same story about a cat being killed in the street. I have since come to believe it was Buddy. No one else may have cared but I am terribly sad and it is a shame that he died like this.

Rest in peace Buddy. You deserved better.

  • The Butterfly Effect

  • Thank you Leslie. I wish I had a picture of him. I don't consider I made his life better at all. All I did was feed him and talk to him. He deserved much better. I believe all animals (like children) deserve loving homes. In a perfect world, right, I...

I believe all animals (like children) deserve loving homes. In a perfect world, right, I know. I am still feeding the others except now I am not seeing them. I know they know he is gone. That is another part of this that is staying with me. They lost a family member and I can never undo that for them. At least now people can read this post and know that a cat who seemingly had no one who cared did have someone who cared, and any unfortunate mistreated animal out there should have at least that.

Rooster

My mother saw a rooster (YES a rooster) on Belden and Marmora this morning. She didn't tell me until now so I have no idea what might have happened since then. If you live in that area or know someone who does, and see the ROOSTER, please call Chicago Bird Collision Monitors. The number is 773 988 1867. Thank you.

  • My hope was that a person in the area could call and have it rescued. I had one rescued from Walgreens at Fullerton and Central some years ago. Pet or not it doesn't belong walking around on the streets of Chicago, the same as with any other pet.

Who will send their child to a school in an area that has clearly been neglected. And not to digress, but Notre Dame High School for Girls, which was also in the 30th Ward closed because of Ald. Reboyras' policies as well. Higher taxation and higher crime don't translate into higher enrollment into these neighborhood schools. Watch St. Patrick High School to follow the same fate if Ariel Reboyras gets re-elected to four more years in 2019. ‪

  • I'm not a Reboyras fan but he had nothing to do with Notre Dame for Girls closing. It just wasn't a good school and parents are not going to waste their money sending their children there.

  • The area isn't becoming that enticing to raising a family, let alone to send their kids to schools in the area.

Your post is almost two years old and shows today 2018 Ald. Reboyras is an out of touch, in over his head, rubberstamp Alderman. He supports Rahm Emanuel almost 100% of the time. The guy is soft on crime and he's the Chairman of Public Safety! If he can't take care of his own "home" neighborhood, he definitely can't take care of the whole city.
