concern about safety

There is an urgent need for adequate lighting on the North side of the 606 at Bloomingdale and Western. The pavement is very uneven and dangerous to pedestrians. Also any traffic coming from the East trying to merge onto Western cannot see what's coming from northbound traffic on Western. There should be a way for cars to see what's coming on Western, in order to merge without blocking the crosswalk or entering Western since that's very dangerous to the moving cars on Western as well.

You're quite sure of yourself and clueless about how people navigate. People merge into traffic from alleys all over creation. I don't know what ADA means or why this would be considered a violation, but Western is not a highway or an expressway, and the traffic on Western would be compelled to stop for a stop sign. If you live on Bloomingdale, east of Western there are NOT many ways of getting to where you want to go without a lot of one-way streets, cut offs and lots of frustration, so you shouldn't be dispensing generic advice that in reality is quite meaningless.
You also just describe the sidewalk problem, without any problem-solving. Stronger streetlights would definitely help some one on foot see the ground and not trip over the uneven junk and get hurt.
Don't forget there's a lot more bldgs. going up, without parking, which assumes that these folks will be navigating by bicycle or on foot...which means a lot more traffic.

  • ADA means Americans with Disabilities Act - the sidewalk is not wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs plus pedestrians.

So Hoping this girl might be Shayna missing from Skokie. Her family saw a camera video from where she was lost while with a sitter that showed she was picked up, so it's possible she ended up in Chicago. I did contact Shayna's mom and she is going to contact you as she looks like her girl. She is not on facebook and I believe her grandson who lives in Texas is trying to help her set up a facebook account to comment on on the hospital's post. • Not sure if you were able to get someone to take care of your outlet, we just had Aurora Electric come out and take care of some outdoor outlets by our patio and deck. Hello, I was just on of the people robbed by armed men the other evening (near Pulaski park) and I wanted to share with you a message I sent to Alderman Hopkins. I hope that others too will reach out to city officials. These crimes that are happening day and night here need to be stopped. The criminals have zero fear raiding our neighborhoods and terrorizing residents and I hope that we can change that, NOW!

"Hello, I was held up by gunmen the other evening returning from work in front of my building just upon exiting the car. I filed a police report and learned from the police and others that mine was not the only incident that night. It seems in a span of a couple of hours these men targeted several people. The incident was terrifying and it was also brought to my attention that the police do not have the forces they need on the street overnight to do their jobs. Also, I also learned recently that they are often told not to chase to apprehend criminals. What are they to do? If the police have their hands tied these criminals know that they can terrorize the unarmed public and do basically whatever they want! It's awful! Also, I had noticed for some time that my street and general area here is quite dark at night. Are there any plans for added lighting or perhaps type of lighting for this area? Thank you very much. I am grateful that I only had to give up some of my belongings to spare my life but I am not the only one who works the second or third shift in this city and not every crime ends without violence. Please help to make the neighborhood safer, day AND night. Not everyone can stay barricaded inside overnight as residents have suggested I do, nor should we have to accept and tolerate that criminals have free reign of the streets just because the sun goes down. Thank you very much for your time. Please advise me if I can be of any assistance in this."

Red light violation: Division/Damen

Neighbors, has anyone else received a red light violation from turning south and Damen from heading east on Division? I stopped at the light, had my blinker on, then turned. A few weeks later I got a red light violation. There is no "no turn on red" sign so I am stumped.

I tried to fight it with the city with the pictures of the intersection and they declined my contest without any explanation. This seems like a total scam.

Any tips or advice for fighting this?

Hello neighbors: Something to look out for in near Damen / Thomas / Hoyne /Haddon areas of 60622: This evening while I was walking my dog, a man in a white Volkswagen sedan moved his car up to block the crosswalk I was trying to cross. He was looking straight at me and jerking off. Appalled, I turned and walked the other way. Then I get to my house not even a block away and another different man in a white Nissan sedan is doing the same thing in his car in front of my house not even 5 minutes later. Two different dudes, two different white cars within less than a block away from each other. I did not have my phone on my so I did not call the police to report either incident and I was too grossed out to go back out the car parked in front of my house to get the plate number. If you are in this zone of 60622, perhaps keep an eye out and be safe.

Mute, according to Illinois Statutes and City Ordinance no matter what size of taser it is considered possession of a weapon. But a small pocket size taser or mace would be a misdemeanor. But I don't know any Police Officer that would charge you if you were being attacked and you used it. Mace is sold practically everywhere. You want to get the stream and not the spray. The stream does exactly that. The spray goes all over and could spray an innocent. The stream is like a water hose and goes directly at your target. There is a saying that says it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. The mace sells for about $10 to $15. I don't think you are the kind of person that would be walking down the street and be subject to stop and frisk. It is better to be safe than sorry. If you were my sister I wouldn't hesitate to get her both to protect herself. Stay safe Mute
