Post Office on Irving Park/Narragansett

I don't suppose I need to go into detail...however, the Post Office on Irving Park and Narragansett is much to be desired...meaning the employees there are terribly rude and I am not just speaking of one person...most that I have come into contact with...as well as the post man....and can anyone tell me why he wears a towel over his head and eyes? He wears this towel winter, spring, summer and fall. At first I thought it was because of...

At first I thought it was because of allergies as it was in the springtime when I first noticed it...but it is all seasons. Anyway, I digress...I don't believe anyone ought to lose their job, however, maybe the city can transfer these employees around from area to area...it is usually the first 6 months when they are new that they are polite and helpful....after that...forgetaboutit! As I am writing this my stomach is turning because I have a package to send...I think I will go to the one on Fullerton and Sheffield....that way the rudeness and inefficiency won't affect me so much because it isn't in the area that I represent and live in. Have a good day!

  • We have had the same mail carrier for years. He is family to each of us, a genuine friendly caring man. His name is Jetta.

Too bad the front desk at the post office can't learn a thing or two from him.

  • In my limited experience at this particular post office (3-4 visits tops), I have nothing bad to say about the staff.

Mother of crash victim pleads for off-duty cop to be given community service

Prosecutors allege Mowry was driving drunk the night in July 2015 when his Mercedes slammed into Cusentino as she crossed the street at Belmont and Olcott avenues at about 1:20 a.m.

Mother of crash victim pleads for off-duty cop to be given community service
Kathy Kean has spent more than two grueling years assisting her daughter's slow recovery from a near-fatal car crash, helping her relearn how to walk and speak. Kean's daughter suffered a severe brain injury when Erin Mowry, an off-duty Chicago cop who was allegedly driving drunk, plowed his car into her moments after she stepped into a street on Chicago's Northwest Side.

Husband and wife founders Angelo and Romana Caputo opened their first small corner grocery store, Caputo’s New Farm Produce and Italian Specialties, in 1958 at Harlem and Wrightwood avenues in Elmwood Park. They had emigrated from the town of Mola di Bari in southern Italy just the year before.

Guide to Chicago's Northwest Side Italian food, with owners' stories and must-have orders
Little Italy in Chicago will always be found along the surviving colorful red, white and green storefronts on Taylor Street on the Near Southwest Side of Chicago. While the neighborhood is now often known as University Village, the Italian-born immigrants who once lived there should not be forgotten.

I really enjoyed seeing this media mention and learning the backstories of the Italian businesses featured in the article. This brought back many good memories for the granddaughter of a Turino native. During my childhood, my mother and I would take the Western Ave. bus from our Morgan Park home to bakeries on Taylor St. to get cookies and cannoli. I've patronized some of the businesses on the list and am interested in trying the few that I've missed.

Alderman Sposato's resignation from Democratic Committeeman

I read that Alderman Sposato stepped down from his elected position as Democratic Committeeman. He said he is the most conservative member in the city council. I missed the entire article that maybe explains why he quit and what he means by his statement. Can anyone fill us in as to why he quit and what his reasons were?

3227 N Oriole Ave?

The home that was originally there burned down some time ago. They started rebuilding earlier this year, then stopped after a few months. The home has walls but no siding, windows but no front door, a roof with no shingles, no front stairs. This place is gonna take a beating once the extreme weather hits it. Animals have probably invaded already. The shame is, eventually they will cover all the damage up and sell the place. The city won't even in$pect, I $u$pect.

Property Tax Inequity!

I don't know if EB frowns on giving out addresses but, hey, it is public knowledge / record. I finally remembered to look up this home, 7475 W. Forest Preserve Blvd. in Property Tax Portal. I pass by it all the time. Beautiful, big ranch home with a Koi pond, terra cotta roof, motorized gate, huge lot, etc. I went to Zillow first. They have it valued at close to $450,000. But, when I went to Property Tax Portal, was I surprised (NOT)! The Assessor's office values it at ... $139,000!!!! With a measly property tax of ... $2,785 a year!!!!? Are you kidding me? This is how jacked up the Assessors office is!

  • I remember looking that house up in the past. I think it is a partial parcel . I think there are two different PIN numbers for the property.

  • You are correct! Thank you! So after reworking the numbers, the home is still waaaaay undervalued! $139,070 & $124,470 for a total of $263,540! Total tax burden of $5,278. And that's without the homeowners exemption. My home, which is about the size of a two car garage, was assessed at $230,000 with a tax this time of close to $3,900. With the homeowners exemption!

  • One year I was filing an appeal and I was actually trying to find examples and came across that one. Now when I file an appeal I let the office find their own comparisons.

Seeking Contractor: Window Capping

Seeking a contractor to cap exterior windows on 2-story Georgian - any referrals or reccommendations?

Near Belmont Heights neighborhood.

  • I wouldn't do capping. Eventually, the seal will loosen, and water will get inside and rot out the wood, and you will not know because the capping is hiding it.

  • Mark 60634 Foundation crack repair pro

My guys would do the capping. If it's white or brown price would be $85 per window including materials such as aluminum and caulk.
