Cleaning Services

Anyone know of any good cleaning/maid services? Just moved into my condo and want to hire a company to come in once a week and do cleaning.

Thanks in advance!

Coyotes

They are here. If you have a small dog, don't leave them unattended. If you walk a big dog be prepared and have some form of defense. Since I believe it's a couple. Now those of you that will freak out, DON'T. I had them on video back on October. They are great,. Great rodent eliminators. God knows we need that here. This neighborhood is infested. Anywhere near Jeff Terminal is REALLY bad. Just be alert, and if you see one, make noise, yell at them. They will run the other way. Just an FYI. I watched them for over an hour or two around 6 pm Tonite in my alley. Working on my car. They don't want to be around people. So, respect them and rodent problem will be a thing of the past. They can hang in my alley all they want. I welcome them, we need them people, so don't get crazy. Just watch your small animals, as you should in the first place.

  • I live one block away from Gompers Park and we have seen them around here as well. Once I was driving down Pulaski and saw them in Bohemian National Cemetery. (I thought they were dogs at first, and thought "who brings their dogs to a cemetery? LOL)

  • @Alyssa, I had the same experience at Graceland Cemetery. I saw something run by me out of the corner of my eye and thought someone was taking their dog for a walk. Nope, it was a coyote. Apparently a whole pack of them live there and were planted by the city to curb the rat situation.

Helicopters Harlem Ave ???

Does anyone know what is going on with all the helicopters in the Harlem/Addison area? I heard plenty of sirens as well as helicopters flying above.

Police Activity

Does anyone know why there are three helicopters stationary and circling between Shabbona Park and Harlem? There are also police cars on every corner.

When Are Property Taxes Due?

I was just on the Cook County Property Tax Portal and noticed they've already posted the 2017 tax bill. By my recollection, six months from the last payment (September 1st, 2017) is March 1st, 2018. Does that mean they expect their blood money February 1st? What happened to the sixth month?

  • Maybe they were posted early to accommodate those who wanted to pay their real estate taxes ahead of time in order to claim them as a federal tax deduction (for the last time, I think).

  • My thoughts at first, but it seems the information was just posted this month, January 2018. Thus, missing the deadline for filing in 2017.

One look at why and how zoning has become a focus of property owners.

If this is not behind a pay wall, here's a think piece about how property owner opinions on their rights to have a say in community development evolved. While it doesn't set out to change anybody's opinion, having it in mind helps me understand why I hold certain value judgments. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/03/upshot/zoning-housing-property-rights-nimby-us.html?comments#permid=25419406

How 'Not in My Backyard' Became 'Not in My Neighborhood'
In Seattle, the neighbors don't want apartments for formerly homeless seniors nearby. In Los Angeles, they don't want more high-rises. In San Jose, Calif., they don't want tiny homes. In Phoenix, they don't want design that's not midcentury modern.

Automatic Water Bill Payments.

I noticed the City of Chicago has a website where you can view your water bill, make payments , and register for automatic bill payment. Does anyone out there do this and if not, would you trust the city or any city contractor with your banking info?

I've been paying our water bill online for many years; never had an issue. I also pay our property taxes online; had problems twice paying in person

AirBNB Cleaning

Is anyone in the area interested in making some money doing some sporadic AirBNB cleaning? It's roughly 30 minutes of work a couple times a month. I'd offer $25 to someone I can trust to stop by and clean.

Unfortunately, there is usually only 1-3 days notice and the cleaning has to be done between 11:00am-2:00pm.

Addison & Central

  • Greetings,

I live right off of Addison and Central. I have housekeeping experience and would be interested in hearing more about this position. I have excellent references that could easily be verified. I would be available immediately. Also, I would be able to work around a last minute cleaning.

    Sincerely,

    Mary

Coyote sighting

It’s Dec 11th and at 8am I saw a large coyote running around the block. It looked scared, tail down and ears back, and seemed to attempting to find a place to hide. I called 911 who sent me to 311. Last seen running northbound on Neva from Wellington. Animal Control has been notified.

Rich's Fresh Market Stinks?

This seems more appropriate for a yelp review or the business's website. A random post here won't do much good and likely will solve nothing.

I thought this side of the street was Chicago. So why do I see cars parked in driveways with Elmwood Park vehicle stickers?
