Rest In Peace

For the cat I called Buddy who was TNRd and then abandoned by his "caretaker" I want to tell people that you will be missed and you were loved.

I was feeding him and the other abandoned cats that were left behind. On Saturday some neighbors told me different versions of the same story about a cat being killed in the street. I have since come to believe it was Buddy. No one else may have cared but I am terribly sad and it is a shame that he died like this.

Rest in peace Buddy. You deserved better.

sad...i think tree house has a program that helps find caretakers and/or move colonies elsewhere. why couldn't the new tenants feed them? and why would you say someone moving into senior housing "abandoned" cats that had been tnr'd?

I had contacted Tree House and other "contacts" and I was told to gradually change the feeding location and that it was better to leave them in their own area. The new tenants were not living there yet. The "landlord" was fixing the place up and he didn't want the cats there anymore. And I say she abandoned them there because she had "indoor" and "outdoor" cats which I believe she interchanged so that the cats were not actually a colony of outdoor cats. They came to rely on her for their lives and she left them behind. The colony was registered to her at her patio apartment. She moved and left the cats where they would no longer be welcome, abandoned. She was reaching out to try and get some help but as you can see from my posts there was no help except for what I have tried to do, which considering what has happened to Buddy, was not enough. The problem of abandoned and unwanted animals is widespread and no matter how much people with good intentions try to do there is always more to be done. I hope you will be an alderman one day and maybe you could work from inside the political system to help the animals.

And one last thing. People don't have to help, but they also don't have to be mean. I'm not saying anyone posting comments here. I'm talking about people in general who go out of their way to chase off cats or speed up to hit animals with their cars. I doubt anyone like that would take the time to read this post.

Rooster Crowing

Has anyone else been bothered by the noise of a rooster crowing all day long in the area? I don't know precisely where this rooster is located, but it's pretty much driving me crazy just as would the sound of an incessantly barking dog. I have no problem with people owning roosters or chickens in the city, but there needs to be some consideration for the noise, and I believe there are humane and inexpensive ways to reduce the noise...

Has anyone else been bothered by the noise of a rooster crowing all day long in the area? I don't know precisely where this rooster is located, but it's pretty much driving me crazy just as would the sound of an incessantly barking dog. I have no problem with people owning roosters or chickens in the city, but there needs to be some consideration for the noise, and I believe there are humane and inexpensive ways to reduce the noise a rooster is able to make.

I don't want to call the police, because they have much more important things to be dealing with than a silly rooster, but has anyone else been bothered by this? I'd be more than happy to help it's owner make a rooster collar for it, if they were willing.

Any advice or guidance for dealing with something like this would be appreciated.

  • So the rooster isnt crowing

    Its screaming for help

  • CL

I believe the ordinance is that an officer has to witness the noise or you have to collect signatures from three neighbors confirming the nuisance. I can’t imagine getting three signatures would be a problem, I just have no idea what to do with them. I guess take them and file a report with the police?

Rooster

My mother saw a rooster (YES a rooster) on Belden and Marmora this morning. She didn't tell me until now so I have no idea what might have happened since then. If you live in that area or know someone who does, and see the ROOSTER, please call Chicago Bird Collision Monitors. The number is 773 988 1867. Thank you.

  • My hope was that a person in the area could call and have it rescued. I had one rescued from Walgreens at Fullerton and Central some years ago. Pet or not it doesn't belong walking around on the streets of Chicago, the same as with any other pet.

Maybe the bird is the owners moneymaket.

Billy Munoz's flight was one of the very last ones out of the La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City before clouds of ash filled the sky. He had been attending a seminar for his job as the Guatemalan Consulate General in Chicago, and was waiting for his flight back Sunday when he heard the news: the Volcano of Fire had erupted.
