Question about the carjackings

It seems that we have tens of carjackings every week. Got me thinking. What is this doing to the car insurance costs in Chicago? And can the victims whose cars get totalled sue the thieves direct or does the insurance sue the thieves?

  • Mute Mute Me

"What is this doing to the car insurance costs in Chicago?"

    Nothing if you have liability.

"And can the victims whose cars get totalled sue the thieves direct or does the insurance sue the thieves?

Neither if the theives arent caught and if they are caught not sure what your gonna collect from someone sitting in jail.

  • I must watch too much court TV, because I see victims (or plaintiffs) all the time suing someone who totalled their car go court for damages when the insurance company only covers a limited amount of money.

Carjacking victims? Court shows are usually civil cases no?

CHICAGO - Residents of Chicago's Uptown neighborhood should be on guard after reports of three separate muggings that occurred in just 15 minutes Wednesday night.
The first robbery happened around 7:30 p.m. near West Buena and North Clarendon avenues. The victim said four males attacked him and ran east, toward Marine Drive.
Right after that, another man was reportedly beaten up and robbed in the 700-block of West Bittersweet Place.
Minutes later, the group reportedly beat a 50-year-old man to the ground, but he was not robbed. The attackers ran north on Clarendon. The victim was treated at a hospital.
There is surveillance video of one of the violent attacks. The robbers appear to be between 15-18 years old.
I have been in contact with the investigating officers of these incidents.
As I have recording cameras surrounding my estate on Hutchinson and Clarendon,
I will check to see if there is anything that can be helpful to police. I have reported this information to the police.

" I'm not sure why this keeps happening"

what has changed that would stop it from happening?

"My friend and his pregnant wife have a condo in that exact area, and I do worry about their safety"

im not sure if a pregnant woman would be seen as an easy target or just the opposite since if caught there are added charges.

why would anyone want to raise children in that area? Hopefully they dont plan to stay long!

  • DEAR ALL:
Concerning the rampage of muggings November 8th, I received a call last night from the lead detective: one of the 4 criminals is in custody. The CPD is now interviewing the suspect to turn in the other 3 which I am confident he will in exchange for reduced charges. So this good news to enhance safety for our neighborhood.

Rock Engravings of Dogs on Leashes Show Pre-Neolithic Good Boys
A new study of prehistoric rock art reveals how hunters in the Arabian Peninsula pursued prey with dogs over 8,000 years ago - and even controlled their packs with leashes. The engravings represent the earliest evidence for dogs on the Arabian Peninsula and might even stand as the earliest depictions of canines yet, as Science first reported.

The passenger pigeon was once the most common bird in North America, numbering in the billions. When in flight, their immense flocks darkened the sun for hours. Humans-acting at our absolute worst-killed every single one of them. The last passenger pigeon, a 29-year-old bird named Martha, died alone at the Cincinnati Zoo in 1914.

Marina Rosenfeld brings together feminism, guitars, and nail polish bottles in sonic exploration
Sometimes Marina Rosenfeld is a turntablist who layers the sounds of specially made, heavily used acetates into gritty sonic expanses. Other times she is a conceptual composer. Her performers' histories, interests, and personalities become material influences on a composition; for example, her desire to work with people of a generation that had grown up having personal relationships with their electronics led to Teenage Lontano, which she devised for the 2008 Whitney Biennale.

How to get a referendum started?

Would anyone know where to go to get a referendum on the ballot? would it be the City or County? and is there a cost?
Thanks.

I think they and the States’ Attorneys and defense attorneys all know about it.

Again, I haven’t researched it. But I doubt anyone has even qualified for those 3 strikes. Meaning nobody has had two prior, separate convictions for the heinous felonies listed and folllowed it up with another such conviction. I’d assume any of the felonies would have resulted in perhaps a 25-year sentence. Two of those would be 50 years. Assuming the person was 18 at the first conviction, and there were only 2 years between the first release and the second conviction. That’d leave you with a 70-year-old needing to commit another heinous crime.

It needs to be a broader list of what felonies count as “strikes.” And a system that doesn’t use those strikes to pressure perps into pleading to lesser crimes to avoid a strike.

Lost Cat in Avondale/Logan Sq.

Help!!! Our cat, Esteban, escaped from the house on the morning of November, 21. He's a black, white and tan tabby with an underbite and white paws. He lives in the W. George and N. Sawyer.
Please help.....
Call anytime day or night (419) 419-8691 or (917) 974-2425

Thank you....

  • Put some of his food and litter box outside. They can track the familiar scent (especially used litter) and that may help bring him home. I hope you find him soon!

  • Good neighbor! I have lived on Troy St. since 1990 and love it!

I hope he comes home. I understand how upsetting this is. Good luck!

  • He is gorgeous. You can also try putting a trap out with a blanket over it, with some food like tuna and sardines. Someone had suggested this to me when my cat got out. It did take about a day or two but I caught her. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Hi,
my trike was parked on the corner of Bell and School St when it was taken some time between 11am-8pm. I know it’s a long shot. But maybe someone saw it happen or has spotted it around town? It’s my main mode of transport and I loved her very much. Gold color. Rear whitewall tires. Front and rear baskets. Thanks in advance.

Many on this forum talk about litigating, be it for some unneighborly thing or other. Well, here is your chance to read the behind the scenes workings of the Chicago Way in its entirety (link below - get some popcorn and settle in) and VOTE.

This is the culmination of 7 years of attorney fees and a waste of our taxpayer-funded court's time/resources, in my opinion, of course.

  • Great job, CPD! Now, will the judge utter the famous words that release violent offenders immediately back onto the street:

    NO PROBABLE CAUSE

Any judge that lets violent and armed criminals back onto the street needs to be voted out of office, and/or run out of town tarred and feathered.

If these offenders were sentenced and jailed, we would have a safer city.

Kittyhop in Logan Square, I was standing at my rear kitchen window while on an important phone call, when I saw the perpetrator inside my truck. I yelled out as loud as I could and pounded on my window, which startled both the customer service representative and the a-hole in my truck. I ran out my backdoor towards my truck when he ran down the alley while clutching his, what looked like, a gun peering out of his shirt. I had left my vehicle unlocked (not any more), just to avoid damage to my vehicle in situations like this.

  • WOW!!That is quite something...and yes, scary that he might have had a gun....

(The guy from the service that jumped my car today had a gun in his belt..that ISN"T why I gave him a tip however...)< that's a joke...but he did have a gun..
