Injured goose

Does anyone know who to contact about a goose at belmont harbor missing a foot. It seems to be cast out of the group of geese all by itself.

I saw this yesterday but today saw just one in the water honking like it was in distress maybe the same one? Isnt it unusual for them to be aline?

  • Mute Mute Me

I dont know anything about birds. I just know some animals alienate other animals who are weak or sick. This goose oftentimes would be alone while a large group of other geese would be all bunched up together not far away. I also would see a goose alone in the same area in the water honking wildly. Again i dont know if that means it was in distress or not.

  • the others probably did oust it... sad...

Afrofuturist big-band leader Sun Ra left the planet 24 years ago, but his legacy has never been in better shape. Many of his classic sides have been remastered and reissued on vinyl, CD, and file formats, and the Sun Ra Arkestra, which plays his tunes in classic and alternate arrangements, still tours regularly.

Armed Car Jacking at George and Whipple

I parallel-parked my '08 Infiniti G35 on the east side of Whipple just before George. As I exited the car, two men in ski masks approached me, held a gun to my head and demanded my keys.

Happened at about 10:30PM. Stay safe folks. Happy Holidays.

Oddly enough i find my elderly clients always have their walkways shoveled and salted. What a nice gesture victor. When i see posts looking for someone ill send them your way. I thought of this thread today as i walked a large elderly dog whos guardian fails to see its his dogs time. The dog slipped on the ice as he can barely walk on clear walkways. Then i remembered how i used to walk in lincoln park and see a blind woman everyday walking from clark to orchard and how upset i couldnt help her navigate as i was walking 2 large dogs myself but st hilary would not have their sidewalks shoveled or salted. Some peopl3 have a hard time walking without heels or snow or ice to navigate.

Alderman Rosa downzone Milwaukee Ave from Kedzie to Central Park on 12/11 City Zoning Meeting

Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa put B2-1 downzone of over 100 Milwaukee Ave properties to single family home density on City Zoning Meeting next Monday 12/11. Predict Zoning Committee Chairman will defer from consideration. Rumor is affected property owner(s) may sue City for infringement of their property value and rights. B2-1 requires 2,500 sq ft of lot size per each new dwelling unit. Same as SFH zoning low density. All existing Milwaukee buildings are higher density as built, hence likelihood lawsuit against Rosa downzone would prevail and cost City/taxpayers big legal expense $.

  • Mark Heller Logan Square & Chicago activist

Rosa downzone to dash -1 Single Family Home density of over 100 properties which are much higher density "as built" will definitely be susceptible to legal challenge. Rosa downzone to dash -1 Single Family Home density of over 100 properties which are much higher density "as built" will definitely be susceptible to legal challenge. Multiple blocks in Lincoln Park were slightly downzoned in 1997, resulting in successful court challenge that redefined Aldermanic Prerogative as less than absolute power (Albert Hanna v City of Chicago). Milwaukee Ave here is close to public transit hub, is higher density business corridor compared to residential side streets, and is designated Pedestrian Street by City. This means properties are eligible for Transit Oriented Development density bonus within 1/2 mile (2,640 ft) from Logan Square Blue Line subway station. Rosa downzone is so draconian from "as built" density, and much higher zoning for several big parcels, that lawsuit challenge is likely to prevail. Even dumb lawyers in City Corporate Counsel office can grasp this and want to avoid huge legal fees taxpayers will pay. https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-1528284.html
Original plan 10 yrs ago by previous Alderman Rey Colon with LSNA to convert Morris B Sachs / Payless Shoes building into Homeless SRO supportive housing using $20 million of Milwaukee/Fullerton TIF would not be possible under proposed B2-1 restrictive zoning. SROs / apartments less than 400 sf are not permitted. Community forced transparent city RFP TIF process that resulted in Hairpin Lofts affordable apartments and Arts Center, instead of LSNA / Colon "done deal" SRO.
Preserving character and buildings of a neighborhood is good thing. Preface of city zoning code mentions this. However, property owners have rights too. Zoning directly affects property value and what can be developed. Rosa mega downzone literally reaches into life savings of longtime property owners in arbitrary way that Courts are likely to conclude is illegal.

  • Mark Heller Logan Square & Chicago activist

Zoning Committee Chair Alderman Danny Solis deferred Rosa mega downzone from vote 12/11. Aldermen Tom Tunney and Joe Moreno spoke AGAINST downzone to Single Family Home density of Milwaukee corridor eligible for TOD near public transit hub. Avondale Neighborhood Association also opposed. Unusual for other Aldermen to step in and meddle with Rosa "Aldermanic Prerogative", but others grasp consequences of legal challenge and liability of City & taxpayers.

Is that man still trapping feral cats around the city?

It was on the news a few days ago http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/11/30/chicago-man-trapping-cats/ but I have not heard any updates.

I'm not sure how I feel about what he's doing. On one hand, I do not like the thought of half a million cats roaming the streets, and killing birds, and freezing to death.

But on the other hand, it is sad that they are going to an over crowded kill shelter.

Just curious to know if he is still at it?

Chicago Man Trapping Cats Hopes To Get City's Attention
CHICAGO (CBS) - A Chicago man, who has trapped more than 40 cats this week, was back at it on Thursday. Chicago's Animal Care and Control (CACC) asked Disgrace Felyer to stop, and even issued a warning to cat owners, or those who care for feral cat colonies, to keep their feline friends indoors.

The pest abatement program I was referring to had to do with pigeons and the barbed and sharp wires around CTA train stations and other areas. I didn't mean to at all suggest that birds of prey were being purposely used as part of any pest abatement program. My aim was simply to point out some problems with the overgeneralized outdoor cats vs birds argument.

I see it didn't take long for this to turn into a thread full of comments about the alleged benefits of having non-native predators like cats running wild in the city. The thread topic really is about this guy who is acting within the law to trap illegally free-roaming house cats (not ferals, even) and turning them in to CACC, which is supposed to (but clearly can't) accept them.

Perhaps we should also talk about the fallacy that no-kill shelters are an actual solution to those which euthanize animals which cannot be adopted out. Because that's another thing that this trapper is demonstrating.

I asked about painting the kitchen cabinets and they said it wouldn't be worth it, since the paint would come off due to the type of cabinets. They gave a little discount if I booked before March and with that discount the whole job is about half of what I was paying the other company. I'll let everyone know how it all turns out, but so far their office manager and dedicated project manager has been extremely helpful and professional.
