You can either donate and sponsor a bench for a neighbor (either someone you know or someone who has requested one) or get one for your own parkway.

These benches are intended for the parkway or other public spaces to encourage walking and offer people a place to rest as they go around the neighborhood.

Our goal is to build 15 benches. If you would like to help build the benches please come to the work group Sunday May 20th at Waters School. All ages and abilities are welcome. You can rsvp to info@forwardchicago.org or call 773-633-8312. Please come support this project - thank you!

Rain date is June 3.

Wood statues stolen from Roscoe Village

Hello neighbors,

I had 3 painted wood carvings stolen from in front of my house near Cornelia and Damen in Roscoe Village last night. They were chained securely, but someone cut the chain or unscrewed the eye locking them. If anyone happened to see anything, or sees some wood carvings lying around somewhere, please contact me. They are about 3 feet, 4 feel, and 6.5 feet tall.

I have reported this to the police, but am posting just in case someone might have seen something suspicious. Like a pick up truck riding down the street with a totem pole. I have photos if anyone has questions.

Thank you,
bill carroll

New restaurant?

Anyone know what’s going in to the former Dive Bar space on Halsted just south of Cornelia? Looks like they’re painting the outside in preparation for something.

  • Do we need another restaurant in the neighborhood.

  • I'm curious too, that was supposed to be the reopening of mEAT, but those signs have been down for over a year now. And, yes, we certainly need as much restaurant choice in this neighborhood as possilbe, anything is better than another closed building.

  • Li, if you think you know what the neighborhood needs, by all means....

go ahead and take the risk and open up your own business.

or, sit on the sidelines and take e-potshots at those who have the courage, conviction, stamina and work ethic to try.

Horrible outdoors karakoe!!!

I usually really enjoy the live music that the festivals bring right outside of my window on Sheffield. But this year outdoor KARAKOE with the worst singers ever blasted on loudspeakers!! How is this not noise pollution and illegal?!? I’m about to go buy an air horn and just start blowing it out of my window u til they stop!!

  • Whoa, what did those trains ever do to you?! Two things-
    1. Karaoke is and will ALWAYS be spelled like KARAOKE.
    2. Im a lifetime lincoln parker. Wrightwood and lincoln ave baby.

  • Would you be OK with it if they could carry a tune and keep up with song lyrics? If it's a regular thing you can call the Debbie Downers at ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC who will enthusiastically shake them down for licensing fees. That shuts down many karaoke nights around the city.

Whew! Wonderful news! Happened with my Siamese 'Karma' . I would take and monitor him only in our backyard. 🐈 cat's are trainable and he knew he was not allowed beyond fence. For years this was flawless. I would check on him every 20 minutes and then one day I dozed off for about four hours. Immediately I went to bring him in and he was nowhere to be found. For four agonizing days he had either been on a feline field trip, or somehow accidentally locked up in a shed or garage. Be sure to block that access so she stays out of there. Cat's are wonderful!

Plumber Recommendations

I live in a 5 story 1920s condo building with 10 units. There are a total of 4 plumbing riser stacks (galvanized) in the building. We have these risers routed out every year. Our contractor is recommending we route the risers twice a year now.

I am looking for recommendations for reputable plumbers with experience in vintage buildings. We are interested in getting professional opinions on such topics as:

1. Should we even be routing the pipes given their age and potential frailty?
2. Is power flushing a better option to routing?
3. What is remaining useful life and potential approaches to replacement?

Thanks much for any and all suggestions!

  • Power Plumbing will give you a straight, complete answer before they do anything, They are not only the best plumbers in the city, they are the best in all the trades.

  • Thank you North Center guy! We appreciate the endorsement!

City sticker late fee

I've been living in an apartment in Lincoln Park since summer 2016. I never bought a city sticker because I park in a garage. I'm moving to another part of the city in a few months and I plan on street parking. My question is, if I go to register for a city sticker when I move, are they going to charge me the $60 late fee or could I claim I didn't have my car in the city during that time and get away with it?

  • oz neighbor 36 years in LP

Whether you park in a garage or not, you still should have been buying a city sticker.
Consider the $60 late fee to compensate for the two years you didn't buy a sticker.

  • SF893 I like turtles

Just register as a new car or you just moved here. There is no way for them to check how long you have lived here nor will they go through the trouble. F***k the city and their money grabs. Cut the corners wherever you can. Surprised you got away with 2 years, they will ring you up even if you park on the street for 10 mins while running into a store.

  • I think they require documentation i.e. the lease showing when you moved there.
