30 E Huron Crime

Has anyone heard of a robbery/mugging that occurred at 30 E Huron last night? I hear rumors of a woman being dragged out of the revolving door and down the block as the offender stole her purse.

  • I live there but am away. How frightening. When someone was carjacked outside, the office sent out a statement to residents - if they do that for this incident, I will post back with any relevant details.

  • Thank you. I'm a resident here too. I confirmed the event with a doorman. Apparently it was at 10:30pm on June 16. She was in the revolving door and someone came up behind her and grabbed her bag that was crossed over her. He ended up dragging her 15-20 feet before getting the bag off her. By the time the doorman got outside, the offender was across the street. The woman is ok, but scratched up from hitting the ground. A police report was filed.

Special soundtrack of Gold Coast comes from church’s rare carillon

Special soundtrack of Gold Coast comes from church's rare carillon
CHICAGO -- Technology is changing the face of even church bells. Over the last few decades, most hand operated bells have been replaced by digital recordings that blare out of tower speakers. In fact, in Chicago, there are only two church towers with vintage hand operated arrays of bells left.

The neon-lit bar at Lawrence and Broadway, now a legendary jazz club, has been around for 107 years—and has more stories than any tavern in town. Here are a few from the past three decades.

Chicago has a new oyster spot. Juniper Spirits & Oysters (1244 N. Dearborn Pkwy., Gold Coast) is named for my two favorite things and is now open in the Claridge House. Seafood, obviously, is its focus. The kitchen serves both an oyster and a lobster roll, along with "sauced oysters" that are topped with alcohol-infused granitas for a cocktails-meets-the-ocean combo.
