Segregation in Chicago won't be solved while anti-"gentrification" sentiment flourishes.

The Metropolitan Planning Council recently published a report of 25 steps we can take to address the segregation epidemic in Chicago.

Know what's funny? Or, maybe I should say, sad? Nowhere in the report do they address the fact that in today's political/social climate, when 'whites' move into any one given area on the South and/or West sides...they're not welcomed as "segregation busters".

No, they're more often called 'gentrifiers'.

It's the new trendy bigotry...and its been cultivated and allowed to fester to the point where, even local alderman have come out amongst the ranks of the Chicago machine to decry its atrocities: "How dare white professionals think they can move into one of these areas!" Think that's hyperbolic? Look at some of the anti-development ordinances being proposed by these political 'leaders' in traditionally underserved communities. Wake up friends. They want to keep these areas economically depressed and artificially deflated to secure votes of their own prosperity - not yours. The first black POTUS can't even open his community center without legions of protests and controversy from the "where's mine!" crowd ... and we think segregation is going to be busted by a few talking points on educational policy and equity?

Nah. This is a top-down epidemic. Years of race-baiting and pandering have created this cultural cancer. Race relations have gotten worse, not better. And this disparity of equity has been created, curated and maintained by the Chicago machine. Let's not forget that.

Tough conversations and new ideas are what will solve these issues. We'll end segregation when we celebrate our individual strengths vs obsessing over our petty differences. And they are just that...beyond petty. White, black, we're all the same. But we can't fight REAL racism when we're too busy chasing fake boogeymen.

Perhaps this is a naive question, but where is the push for more people to become home owners? When reading this I got the sense it is an owners vs renters dilema. Owners win with improving neighborhoods, while renters have to pay more in rent so are against. Owning a condo that’s comparable to renting the same apartment is almost always more cost effective over time. Going into debt that you then go bankrupt on to buy a place sounds like the wrong approach to push, but wouldn’t putting Section 8 vouchers or CHA money against supporting home ownership end up being a win-win-win for the families, neighborhoods, and tax payers?

@Vox - As I've mentioned multiple times now, I'm not asking or expecting to be "welcomed" as anything. I've merely been pointing out how whites are perceived when they move into these areas - it's made into a racial issue when it's quite clearly an economic one. Black gentrification has been taking place along the south lakefront for a LONG time as more and more affluent blacks settled back into the area ... it was only when whites started to move in that chants of "gentrification" became so prominent. It's a dog and pony show.

As far as compassion, lets take your specific example: I'm supposed to feel compassion for a family who made the conscious, personal decision(s) to have multiple children when they could barely support themselves to begin with? The Brookings Institute (a fairly liberal organization I might add) published a study a few years back noting three things anyone (regardless of race/economic status) could do to greatly reduce their chances of falling into poverty:
    1) Finish high school
    2) Get a full-time job
    3) Wait until age 21 to get married and DON'T have children before you get married

Now, I already know what you're going to say ... "jobs, what jobs!?" Well, not only has our nation reached historically low unemployment rates (a trend Obama helped kick off nearly a decade ago), there's a ton of jobs out there! What we LACK, are qualified workers to fill these positions. Just Google "lack of skilled and unskilled workers" and you'll be inundated with reports highlighting industries across America that can't find qualified workers to fill open positions.

So no, I don't get this rush of compassion for large families who birth more children into poverty than their more affluent counterparts when they're already under heavy economic burdens given their personal circumstances. If that sounds harsh, than I guess it's just going to have to sound harsh. But, that's exactly why I said tough conversations are in order.

Found Dog

Found this little guy near the corner of 43rd Street and S Indiana Ave around 6:45 this morning. He's been dropped off at Chicago Animal Care and Control at 2741 S Western Ave where he'll be held for 4-5 days and then put up for adoption and/or released to a rescue organization. Please help him get back to his family.

  • Don't forget the reality of euthanasia due to lack of space at shelters or due to not being in perfect health. People, you need to get your dogs microchipped. A dog is not a toy, it is a living being

  • I talked to several neighbors and it appears this dog had been a stray for a long time so he might not have a family looking for him. I called several no-kill shelters before I took him to CACC and they wouldn't accept him as a stray off the street. Because he's small, cute and relatively well behaved, the consensus is he'll find a forever home soon.

Wilding Mob Attack Criminals Still At Large

Some of the mainstream Chicago press is FINALLY at least covering the brutal crime story of a large wilding mob that originated around us (~ 47th and Dan Ryan Red Line) invaded North Michigan Avenue, proceeded to stop traffic, jump on people's cars and in one case viciously attack a young couple. The last I heard the victim was in critical condition with a fractured skull!

Local pols and police spokesmen have been covering up this terrible flash mob, wilding attack, trying to spin it off as just teens acting a little rowdy or worse the police lied and said it was a case of two groups fighting. No, it was a case of a young suburban man and his girl friend coming off the Oak Street Beach and getting jumped and nearly or maybe even murdered by a large group of 25-50 South Side punks who organized these attacks on Social Media. We should set up an award for information that leads to the arrest, prosecute and severe punishment of these dangerous criminals who do these violent attacks for fun.

The Chicago Police Department is scrambling to explain why the parents of a 21-year-old suburban man - who suffered a serious head injury after a Gold Coast attack by a mob of teenagers - were ignored for days when they tried to file a police report. Local Ald.

Teen wilding mob from 47th street invades Mag Mile

CWB (Boystown) anti crime blog is reporting that huge mob of teens from our South Side (reportedly ~ 47th street around Red Line) organized a large (500 plus) teen wilding attacks on the Magnificent Mile. Many people were terrorized and one suburban young man and his girl friend were surrounded and viciously beaten. The young man victim had his skull fractured and was/is listed in critical condition. The mainstream media has completely censored this story for political reasons and also the tourist industry on North Michigan ave works hard to suppress crime stories of tourists being robbed or attacked.

The reports that I trust indicate this was an organized gang wilding attack - gang colors were Red and Black and might be some gang initiation for teens ~ 13 and 14 years old.

Please use your neighborhood contacts to find out exactly who organized this murderous flash mob, wilding invasion/attack. We should be prepared for similar organized wilding attacks in our communities.

I highly recommend this anti crime blog based in Boystown:

More lies, cover ups by the Chicago Dem elite including some in the Chicago Police Department. This terrible wilding mob attack on this young suburban couple - the victim last I heard is in critical condition with a fractured skull! Police failed to even make a police report and lied that said it was just a fight between two groups! yeah right: At least the Sun Times is reporting on this brutal crime story instead of covering it all up like the rest of the fake news, lying press: https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/cpd-scrambles-to-explain-why-parents-of-injured-suburban-man-ignored/

Pop Up Car Parties

These street parties have to end. Between State and Wabash on 37th street every day people park their cars during “happy hour” and basically drink, smoke, urinate and litter. On weekends this will grow into a bigger problem. I don’t understand why the police don’t stop this. It causes litter, property damage and will ultimately lead to crime. Who wants to come home to a pop-up block party of people drinking beer in the street? Not me. And this wouldn’t be allowed in most parts of Chicago. Please tell me what I need to do to make this stop.

35th and indiana

so is anyone going to do something about the heavy drug dealing and homeless that hang out on 35th and indiana. Those people are not homeless cause the street is empty when the drugs run out. I really think the police are scared of these hoodlums. any ideas?

Yes! "Robust community policing and strategic, targeted approaches" - we've got to find a way to make this a reality.

Watkins - great way to lay out the balance needed. Hopefully you got the name or some identification of the officer you mentioned and made a complaint. Letting the Alderman of the beat that officer is on is a good idea also to keep the pressure on. You can tell what beat an officer is on by looking at the number on the top right of the vehicle. Need to get the bad ones out to let the good ones do their job.

Why no Venues for Blues, Gospel fest on Southside and Westside

You have venues on Northside and Downtown, what is the deal here? This has to stop, we like entertainment as much as the next person. Are our tax dollars being used to finance others entertainment?

  • Who insulted you, are you being serious? I never once insulted you ... everyone on this thread has been having a completely rational, engaging conversation. We don't always all have to agree with one another, that's a good thing, it's called a dialogue. It's not about holding hands, signing kumbaya and acting like there aren't really tough, interesting conversations to have. Sheesh ....

Without wanting to get political and using buzz words - human trash is human trash - no matter what race, color or creed. I don't have time to get shot, I don't have time to organize another HOA meeting to get our vintage brick siding fixed due to bullet holes, I don't have time to stay home from work in order to wait for the glass/window guy to fix my car window that has been shot out - which is what is going to happen if I can't get law enforcement to do a little preventative maintenance and patrol an area that clearly has an issue. I have reached out to management companies, towing companies, lot owners and I call 911, instead of turning a blind eye (or ear) and pretending it's not my problem. For the love of all good and holy, children live in that building! I've done my due diligence as a human being - what other actionable behavior can I do to get the result (safety) I want?

  • Report it to the news media ... they have clout, and their clout is, they blab it to the general public. They might not do anything about this specific incident, at least they keep tab.

Our filthy public schools at a cost of $259 million a year!

There are so many, many reasons Chicago's one party Lib Democrat rule isn't working. Obscenely expensive government contracts are given to non competitive insiders like

Aramark - a Philadelphia based company. Aramark was recently given get this a

$289 million annual contract for the exclusively rights to clean and do maintenance for Chicago public schools!

That's over 1/4 of a billion $! what kind of job are they doing? Well public schools in Bronzeville failed board of health inspections with rodent infestation, filthy bathrooms etc. https://marathonpundit.blogspot.com/2018/03/rat-droppings-filth-and-bugs-most.html

https://secondcitycop.blogspot.com.tr/2018/04/nice-school-cleaners-rahm.html

    Second City Cop
Per CPS rules, anyone who works in a facility has to pass a background check. A background check requires that they submit to a drug test. Sounds like Aramark is skirting rules. What's also interesting is that CPS just got their credit rating upgraded ever so slightly. How does that tie into Aramark?
