Private driveway ordinance???

I always thought there was a city law against unauthorized public parking in the space directly in front of an entrance/exit to a private home's driveway ( i.e. blocking access to it by the homeowners and household's visitors
own vehicles).

I always thought there was a city law against unauthorized public parking in the space directly in front of an entrance/exit to a private home's driveway ( i.e. blocking access to it by the homeowners and household's visitors
own vehicles).

That is happening more than I can ever remember, in front of my residence and I want to put a stop to it. Before I copy the license plate number and turn it over to the police for ticketing (and or towing), I want to inform any new people on the block of my intent so they have fair advance warning. Therefore, I would like to know the exact city ordinance (if there is one). I have looked, but cannot locate anything.

If anyone out there knows, I would be obliged if the ordinance was posted here. You would think common sense and neighborly courtesy would be enough, but even "neighbors" these days don't often do the right thing....

Thanks for any assistance in locating such an ordinance.

  • What about all the ignorant people who block the sidewalk with their cars, forcing little kids to walk in the street and possibly get hit by a car. I'm sure if the roles were reversed and THEIR child got hit they'd be suing the car owner who blocked the sidewalk..

  • We have a situation in the neighborhood, There is a mechanic shop owner, that is using the street to park vehicles for repair and also repaired vehicles, because of this sometimes is hard to find parking on the street, what can we do?. Being unsuccessful with the 16 ward alderman about this issue. We need your comments.
    Thank you

Be careful at night; be sure your kids don't walk alone anywhere and try to find other families trying to raise their kids well too - there are lots, they are just being careful like you, so they are a bit harder to find. Once you are connected it makes this new neighborhood easier to call home and to stay safe. Hope the kids enjoy their first day of school!

Stop encouraging socialism. As Dickens points out in The Christmas Story when Scrooge is asked to donate to charity, he asked" Why should I give to charity, the government already took my money and opened the Poorhouses." The tragedy of government give-aways is not that the poor do not have enough, it is that the wealthy feel relieved of their responsibility to help those with less.

The government already took our money to fund schools that graduate kids that cannot read, write, add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Today, August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), a global event held each year to raise awareness of overdose & reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. IOAD began in Australia & has quickly become a worldwide movement. This day also acknowledges the grief felt by families & friends remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of a drug overdose. Something that I as a funeral director am seeing first-hand as I serve families in our community. Recently, at the urging of a special commission, the White House declared the opioid crisis a “national emergency.” “America is enduring a death toll equal to September 11th every three weeks,” the commission’s report noted, saying a state of emergency would “force Congress to focus on funding” ways to combat the growing epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the opioid crisis now kills over 100 Americans a day & more Americans are expected to die this year of drug overdoses than died in the Vietnam, Iraq & Afghanistan wars combined. Addiction to prescription drugs and opioids can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, religion, geography or ethnic background. Death rates, generally, are climbing in nearly every demographic. The pain I see in families that have endured the death of a loved one due to overdose is excruciating: their grief is often complicated by feelings of anger, guilt, regret & a host of other emotions. It’s something that I hope families never have to endure. More than ever, it’s time for us to educate & act to turn the tide in the battle against drug addiction & overdose. Today, please join me in learning more about the overdose & opioid crisis. Education, awareness & engaging in dialogue with others in our community about this “national emergency” is an important first step that all of us can take toward preventing even more deaths due to overdose.
