1 killed, 9 wounded in city shootings, including 16-year-old boy seriously injured on West Side

A 37-year-old man was shot in the back around 9:20 p.m. Friday in the South Side’s Back of the Yards neighborhood. The man was walking in the 4700 block of South Ada Street when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was stabilized at Stroger Hospital.

In the homicide, a 19-year-old man was killed in a double shooting Friday night in the 10200 block of South Hoxie Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood on the city’s Southeast Side.

The 16-year-old boy was wounded after an attack around 11:55 a.m. in the 1800 block of South Ridgeway Avenue in the West Side’s Lawndale neighborhood.

The most recent shooting happened around 2:10 a.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of West North Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said.

A 22-year-old woman was shot in the foot around 2 a.m. Saturday while at a party in the basement of a residence in the 4000 block of South Archer Avenue in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said. She was in good condition at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Around 8 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the 2900 block of West Cermak Road in the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side. He was walking on that block...

Also on the West Side, a 19-year-old man was shot about 6:15 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Potomac Avenue in the city’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

A 23-year-old man was shot about 12:25 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Van Buren Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. He suffered a wound to the buttocks, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

Around 8:15 p.m., two men were wounded in a double shooting in the 10200 block of South Hoxie Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood on the city’s Southeast Side.

Volunteer as a one-on-one tutor for just 90 minutes a week at 1751 West 35th Street on the southwest side of Chicago. All tutoring is in English, so you don't have to speak another language to volunteer. Volunteer tutoring opportunities are 9am-8pm, Monday-Thursday.
