We need to start the conversation, reestablishing our community becomes more paramount each day. It seems our welcome has worn out and our dollars are not welcome in certain areas. The answer and only answer is get OUR community back.

What can I do?

Heard 15-20 shots and saw 5 adult males brandishing guns on the 47 block of Ellis Saturday morning (approx 330am). Called 911 and the operator hung up on me. Do people really not care about the Southside that much???

Why no Venues for Blues, Gospel fest on Southside and Westside

You have venues on Northside and Downtown, what is the deal here? This has to stop, we like entertainment as much as the next person. Are our tax dollars being used to finance others entertainment?

These are downtown festivals and have been for as long as I can remember. There are other events around the city at private clubs. Please let me know a good blues club on the West side. These things don’t just pop up from the City. People start them.

Now a more interesting way to think about this would be to think about the possibility of moving one of these fests to a city park like Douglas maybe. There has been some concerts there over the last few years and they’ve gone over quite well. And they’re still able to bring people from around the city (one of the benefits of having them downtown).

Ray is making a valid point. We all pay taxes, and if the city is going to sponsor event-based entertainment, they could spread the love a bit ... I think that's really the main sticking point here.

We're not talking about private investors/developers opening their own venues. There are an abundance of historic areas (case in point: Record Row along Michigan Ave) where the city could (and SHOULD) lend a helping hand. Chicago Jazz and Blues is one of the most significant cultural exports this city can claim. We should be celebrating that, and creating areas to incubate and preserve that history (in the specific locations with which they originated and flourished) would go a long way to keeping us a global, urban, culturally-rich, world-class city.

Spend Where You Live

I am proposing to Bronzeville residents that for one day out of the week we spend in our community as not only a way to demonstrate our purchasing power, but to contribute to the growth of home buisnesses who thought enough of us to invest with us.

We are being judged not by the content of our character but by the color of our skin, the time is long past that we readdress establishing our community for our own welfare and salvation and financial growth. Once we start funneling our dollars here in Bronzeville and other predominately African American businesses then we become less dependent and start the process of Wealth building right here.

Car Crashes Into Multiple Parked cars on S Indiana

A car crashed into multiple parked cars around 1 am last night on S Indiana, between 44th & 45th. I heard the sound of the crash but it took a few minutes to realize what had happened. 2 occupants of the car were arguing loudly. Police were called and showed up in 5 minutes. If you live on this block, you might want to check your car!

Hi Amanda, if you're not on Nextdoor,(https://nextdoor.com) you should join. This incident was discussed extensively in several posts. I guess there was a large amount of shooting and people involved (there's been manyincidents on the 4600-4700 block of Ellis).
Ky, no! I was not aware of nextdoor. I will get on that asap. This has been an ongoing problem with a particular apt building. I have called the management company and have received no feedback or response. There is an empty lot behind that complex that they were using for parking/drinking. I called the listing agent as well as the owner. That's finally been locked and a towing company has been hired. But that has not stopped the gun shots etc.
